SPECIAL EVENTS FOR SUMMER 49TH ANNUAL ROOSTER RUN (AGES 5 & UP) Saturday, June 17 On your MARK, Get Set, GO! The Rooster Run/Walk will have a 5K certified course as well as an option for the 10K course. Your little chickens will also have a chance to run in our 100 Yard, Little Chicks Dash. Make it a family event, bring your friends and family and cheer them on as they raise money for a great cause! This race/walk is for the elite to the novice. Maps are available at the Parks and Recreation office. If you cannot run on this day, please consider event sponsorship. All contributions are tax deductible. Children will work in age-appropriate groups and go through all of the steps that Hollywood producers go through from “Action” to “That’s a Wrap!” Programs focus on creativity, cooperation and fun. Your child will be a real filmmaker and will have a movie they created to prove it. All Flix will be professionally edited and dowloadable within a monnth after camp ends. ARTS & MORE: Acting/Singing ABOUT INSPIRING ACTING STUDIO: Inspiring Acting Studio was created by Newtown resident, Grant Ossendryver, who is also the owner and director of Newtown’s Inspiring School of Music. Studio classes are taught by acting professionals with Industry stage and film experience. Each class is designed to give students a fun, empowering and unforgettable set of acting skills. Students will be able to soar with exceptional acting technique and even pursue their professional dreams. From beginner to advanced actor students there’s something for everyone. NEW! THE NATURE OF STORYTELLING - THEATER PERFORMANCE AND ART CLASS (AGES 7-18) “The earth has music for those that listen.” Combining a love of nature and theater, this class will explore the art of storytelling through the exploration of the four elements (earth, wind, water and fire) with stories and characters. We will use movement exercises, and learn to analyze a chosen text (monologue, poem, sonnet) to further an understanding of the natural world’s influence on theater. ARTS & MORE: KNITTING/MODELING & FASHION NOT-JUST-KNITTING KNIT & CHAT SUMMER CAMP (AGES 7-12) This is a week-long, super fun class where knitting lessons are the main focus, and are designed to teach the creative art of knitting in a non-frustrating, comprehensive, but fun, way. Give kids and tweens something to do besides video games on rainy days! No prior knitting experience needed. Learn to cast on, knit, purl and more. We’ll create a fashionable item as our main project, and more projects will be completed as time allows. In addition, each day there will be games and more fun art/crafts projects (not just knitting). Each day consists of fun-filled activities that directly relate to the industry: Makeover Monday Campers will learn about one another, walk the runway and have makeovers. T-Shirt Design Tuesday Campers will design their own t-shirts. Campers should bring runway shoes. Wanna Be Famous Wednesday Campers will work on public speaking and red carpet prep. Campers should bring runway shoes. Time to Say “Cheese” Thursday Campers will have the opportunity to work with a High Fashion photographer. Campers should bring an extra outfit (one casual and one dressy outfit). Fashion Show Friday Campers will have their hair and makeup done for their Fashion Show Performance. Please note that we are approved by The Department of Education; our counselors are professionally trained and prepared to run a fun and educational camp. We provide 1 counselor per 8-10 children. Then, working as a team, they’ll slice, dice, peel, measure, and cook until they’ve prepared the finished dish. Class closes with opportunity to taste the result of their hard work. Students receive a printed recipe card and the focal ingredient - or a sample of the finished dish - so they can show off what they learned! INTRO TO ESPORTS CAMP (AGES 7-13) Have your child join us for Intro to Esports Camp where they will get to experience playing various “E for Everyone” rated games (Minecraft, Rocket League, Knockout City, Fall Guys, Super Smash Bros, and Mario Kart) in a social, team- based setting.
