NEWSLETT ER ㅊ Yantai Huasheng International School March 5, 2021 CELEBRATING OUR 5TH ANNIVERSARY In celebration of YHIS’s 5th anniversary, the school is planning to put together a Community Cookbook of our different cultures’ food diversity! We would like to invite students, parents, and staff to contribute to this cookbook. There is no limit to entries or type of dish – entree, main, dessert, soup, baked products, etc. The recipe can be any type of food and preferably ingredients that you can find locally. You could send a picture of the dish and type out or send a photo of your recipe in English, Korean, Arabic, French, or Chinese. Recipes may be sent to Mrs. Alyssa Jeffers at alyssa.jeffers@yhischina.com. Please note that your family name will be printed under your recipe and all recipes must be received by Friday, March 26. Please refer to a recipe example below. We look forward to receiving your favorite recipe! UPDATED CAMPUS ENTRY POLICY We are pleased to announce that parents are allowed on campus for scheduled meetings and school events. Please note that as part of precautions against COVID-19, parents are required to follow procedures as below. We appreciate your assistance in taking extra precautions to keep your loved ones safe. 1. Wear a Mask. 2. Get your temperature taken. 3. Show a Parent ID Card. 4. Register with your name, child’s name, and contact number. 5. Show your Green Health Code. 6. Show your Green Travel Record Code (scan QR code) YHIS CELEBRATING CHINA WEEK ON TV YHIS celebrating the China Week was featured on Yantai's TV! During the China Week, reporters and cameramen from a TV station came to film our China Week activities and performances. The goal of this filming was to capture how foreigners in China celebrate Spring Festival. Please click here to view the video.
YHIS SWIMMING CLUB We are proud to announce our swimming club for upper elementary through 8th grade every Friday beginning March 19. This is a semester-long club for students who are beginning swimmers. Students can enhance their swimming skills and learn new techniques. An information session and tour will be held on Monday, March 8 at 3:30 pm in the YHIS gym. The presenter will discuss costs, procedures for joining and get a tour to the swimming pool area. If you are interested in your child participating in the swimming club, please sign up for the information session through this LINK. Parents can come to the gym through the door near the west gate on the Aihua Road. We look forward to seeing you! YHIS BOOKMARK In celebration of Literay Week, the school has made bookmarks for all students. Each student will have received one bookmark by the end of today. Parents who would like one are welcome to grab one from the front desk. RECOGNIZING iSC 9 QUALITIES FOR LIFE Teaching students about the iSC 9 Qualities for Life is an integral part of the character education and development program at YHIS. Each month, YHIS teaches about a single characteristic and we award students from all grade levels who have demonstrated that characteristic the most. Teachers observe the students throughout the month and nominate winners. For the month of February, our focus was on “Persistence”. We would like to congratulate and recognize the following students leading with persistence among their peers! The students never gave up, strove to get things right by seeking to understand, and approached challenges with tenacity, creativity, and thinking both in the classroom and school community. LUNCH CARD UPDATE Beginning Monday, March 8, students must bring their lunch cards to lunch. Students who lost their lunch cards will need to pay 20 RMB at the Finance office to remake their cards. The Finance office is available to assist during lunch hours. If you have any questions, please send an email to finance@yhischina.com. PI DAY YHIS secondary division is celebrating Pi Day on Thursday, March 11. Secondary students will be participating in a series of activities. Please refer to the information about the activities below. We look forward to a fun Pi Day! VIRTUAL MUNISC 2021 The Yantai MUN Club is excited to be participating in MUNiSC 2021 "Fostering Inclusivity in an Age of Exclusivity” this weekend, from March 5-7. The conference will be held virtually; students will be participating from the YHIS campus on March 5-6 and from home on March 7. MUNiSC is a three-day United Nations simulation for G8-12 hosted by International School of Qingdao (ISQ). Students from schools from all over China will work together to develop and debate innovative solutions to pending global issues. PSAT 8/9 & PSAT 10 On Wednesday, February 24, the 8th and 9th grade students participated in the PSAT 8/9. We are proud of them for their effort on the test. Scores will be released online to students approximately two months after testing. The 10th grade students will be participating in the PSAT 10 on Wednesday, March 10. We wish the 10th graders good luck on their test! Announcements from the Student Council RETRO SHARK SPIRIT DAY An upcoming Shark Spirit Day will take place on Friday, March 12 – Retro Day. Let’s throw it back to the 90’s! Students and teachers are encouraged to dress up as 90’s folks. Students who choose not to paricipate are to wear school uniforms. We look forward to a fun Retro Day!
CRAZY HAIR DAY WINNERS We are proud to announce 6 winners from the January Shark Spirit Day. Shark Spirit Day is a monthly event when all YHIS community members dress up according to the month's selected theme. The theme for January was Crazy Hair Day, and the winners were: ECC – Victor L.
