An MTA Conference & Expo like no other O n behalf of the entire MTA Board of Directors and our staff, we welcome you to MTA’s 2021 Virtual Conference & Expo, and offer our sincere thanks for Neighbors serving taking part in this event. Neighbors Acme Township April 28 & 29 Like so much of the past year, we know that this year’s event is a lot different than the MTA Conference that you are likely used to—where you could learn, connect and share with one another in-person, come together for the largest gathering of local government officials in the state, and feel the energy of nearly 2,000 individuals just as committed and passionate about township government as you. While we can’t yet offer that in-person experience—and believe us, we are as eager as you to gather together again—we are also thrilled to be able to offer you a learning and networking opportunity like no other. Our Virtual Conference & Expo will still provide you with education—more than 20 sessions, and you can take part in all of them either during the week or on-demand afterward, and inspiration—hearing from Association leaders, municipal experts and other well-regarded speakers from the national stage, all ready to share their stories and experiences to help inspire you, and your township team, as you continue to lead your communities. But this event is also about so much more than education, as invaluable and essential as that is. For us, this year’s Conference & Expo is an opportunity to honor you, and the heroic efforts of township frontline workers, officials, personnel and all who served your communities over the past year. We’ve long believed that the phrase “Neighbors Serving Neighbors” epitomizes township government, and that has never felt more true than over the last 12 months. We have all experienced uncertainty, sorrow and fear during this pandemic, but as township leaders, each and every one of you offered hope and strength, making a difference to your residents and your communities. You helped provide answers, expanded programs and resources, and ensured your townships were available for those in need. You called elderly residents in need, brought smiles to children’s faces, and kept your community safe in so many ways. For that, and for all you do, we say, Thank you. Thank you for joining us for this different, but still spectacular event. Thank you for your commitment to Neighbors Serving Neighbors. Enjoy the Conference, and please do not hesitate to let us know how we can continue to better serve you, as you continue to serve others. Best, Jeff Sorensen, Pete Kleiman, 2019-2020 MTA President 2021 MTA President 3
