II. Basic Order of Activities Step 1) The NDFL heads create pre-gen PCs based on specific parameters. Step 2) League fantasy players pay the season’s set buy-in amount in order to participate in a draft and build their fantasy adventuring party. Step 3) League DMs & league tabletop players run league PCs through a monthly NDFL dungeon. Step 4) League PCs receive appropriate points based on the NDFL set scoring system and their performance in that month’s dungeon. Step 5a) At the end of the season, the two fantasy adventuring parties with the highest overall scores each run a ‘playoff dungeon’. Step 5b) The fantasy adventuring party with the highest score from the playoff dungeon wins the season, earning the league fantasy player the title Fantasy Season Champion and the prize money for the season. Step 7b) If two or more fantasy adventuring parties are tied for last place, they too run the playoff dungeon and the fantasy adventuring party with the lowest score in the playoff dungeon is then the season loser, earning the league fantasy player the title Team Shame. Step 8a) The league adventuring party with the lowest score for the season is the official loser, earning the league fantasy player the title Team Shame and small Team Shame ribbons. Step 8b) If two or more league adventuring parties are tied for last place, they too run the playoff dungeon and the league adventuring party with the lowest score in the playoff dungeon is then the season loser, earning the league adventuring party the title Team Shame and small Team Shame ribbons. III. Description The NDFL is a tabletop roleplaying version of fantasy football. Instead of football teams built from real- life football players, we play with fantasy adventuring parties built from the PCs of other adventuring parties. Members of the league participate in a draft of pre-gen PCs to build, and name, their fantasy adventuring party. Just like in fantasy football, a league adventuring party is comprised of PCs from multiple other parties. League DMs run the league tabletop players through one NDFL dungeon each month. The NDFL uses the ‘total points’ system of scoring. Fantasy adventuring parties accumulate points based on league PC performance during NDFL dungeons. Each league PC runs an NDFL dungeon once a month during the season. Just as some football teams, but not all teams, play on certain weeks, so too do some league DM’s run their NDFL dungeon on certain weeks. League PCs only earn points on weeks that they’ve played; so if a
league PC in your fantasy adventuring party plays that week, that PC will earn you points that week. All of the league PCs will run the same exact NDFL dungeons, allowing the same basic opportunities to earn points. This first NDFL season is four months long with a new NDFL dungeon each month. At the end of the season, the two league adventuring parties with the highest overall scores will have the opportunity to run a ‘playoff dungeon’; the party with the highest score at the end of the dungeon wins the playoff. Playoff winners (the league tabletop players and the league fantasy player) receive the title Champions of Everything. The party with the lowest score for the season receives the title Team Shame. If two or more parties are tied for last place, they too run the playoff dungeon and the party with the lowest score in the playoff dungeon earns the Team Shame title. The heads of the NDFL, league DMs, league tabletop players, and anyone who assists in running the PCs through dungeons are not eligible to participate in the draft or to run a fantasy adventuring party. IV. Mechanics a. PCs i. PCs are generated by the heads of the NDFL so that they fit within the following limits 1. Level 5 2. Stats are generated w/ best three out of four d6 rolls 3. Spell lists are limited to pre-gen NDFL lists for simplicity 4. Each PC starts with a. class-appropriate mundane armor b. class-appropriate mundane weapon c. mundane dagger d. Standard list of 100 gp (appx) in mundane utility items e. Two Cure Light potions 5. PC inventory will evolve throughout the season during dungeon crawls b. Adventuring Parties i. All adventuring parties, league and fantasy, are comprised of one of each of the following character archetypes: 1. Rogue-type 2. Healer 3. Warrior 4. Mage/Psion 5. Wildcard a. The wildcard PCs do not follow a specific archetype and can be any class with any specialty c. Dungeons i. Dungeons are generated by the heads of the NDFL ii. Each dungeon is between three and five rooms each and includes: 1. At least one trap 2. At least one puzzle 3. At least one group of enemies 4. One boss d. ‘Total Points’ League i. Parties accumulate points on an ongoing basis. The league standings are determined by the teams’ total points. The two parties who accrue the highest total of points throughout the duration of the NDFL-regular season advance to the playoffs. e. Scoring i. Specific actions earn specific points as broken down below. Please see the definition of ‘successful’ or ‘successfully’ under section III. Definitions. 1. The DM has the final say on any disputes, as always. V. Documentation & Accountability a. The number one rule of the NDFL is to be honest. This is for fun. Let’s maintain our community’s integrity by playing by the rules. b. Score Reporting i. After each dungeon has been completed, the stats for that specific dungeon must be submitted to the NDFL via our Report Scores form, linked on the subreddit sidebar. 1. Stats required to be reported are: a. Hits Taken b. Hits Dealt c. Special Ability Utilized d. Feat Ability Utilized e. Skill Successfully Utilized f. Spells Successfully Cast g. Traps Successfully Disabled/Beaten h. Puzzles Successfully Solved i. Times Unconscious j. Deaths 2. Stats must be reported for each league PC. 3. Once the above stats are received, NDFL officials will list the PC’s stats, current dungeon score, and overall score on the subreddit. c. Video Recording or Chat Transcripts i. Each dungeon run, if held in person, should be video recorded in full (web cam quality is fine) and uploaded to YouTube. 1. Recording should start once all members are present at the table. 2. The recording should include all player actions, from entering the dungeon, all the way through defeat of the boss and loot distribution. 3. Audio should be intelligible. 4. The entire dungeon should be visible during the entire recording. a. Exceptions being considered if people must walk in front of the camera momentarily.
5. A link to the YouTube video is required when the score report is submitted to the NDFL ii. If dungeons are run online rather than in person, there are several options for recording 1. Video chat sessions (such as through Skype or Yahoo) should be recorded following the same guidelines outlined under section b above. 2. Roll20, MapTool, Fantasy Grounds, and other chat-based programs do not have to be recorded but instead must submit a chat transcript when score reporting. iii. We do not want both a video and a chat transcript. Only one is necessary per dungeon. VI. Flow of the Season a. Phase 1: First Season Pre-Season i. League Adventuring Parties run the pre-season dungeon in order to generate stats that can be viewed by league fantasy players and considered when drafting b. Phase 2: First Season Drafting i. All league fantasy players are randomly assigned a number from a die roll made by the heads of the NDFL. ii. The league fantasy player who receives the highest die roll gets first pick in the draft, second highest roll gets second pick, and so on until everyone has chosen one PC for their fantasy adventuring team. iii. Drafting then starts again, repeating in the same order, until all league fantasy players have built complete fantasy adventuring parties. c. Phase 3: Dungeon Runs & Score Reporting i. League adventuring parties run the NDFL’s monthly dungeon once and follow the score reporting procedures outlined under section V. Documentation & Accountability d. Phase 5: Trading i. At the end of each month, after all league PCs have been through the NDFL dungeon, players will be allowed to request trades. ii. If agreed upon by both trading parties and approved by NDFL heads, trades will be recorded and fantasy adventuring party rosters updated. e. Phase 4: Play Offs i. At the end of the season, the two fantasy adventuring parties with the highest overall scores each run a playoff dungeon. 1. The fantasy adventuring party with the highest score from the playoff dungeon wins the season, earning the league fantasy player the title Fantasy Season Champion and the prize money for the season. 2. The league adventuring party with the highest overall score for the season wins the title League Season Champions and season ribbons. a. If two or more league adventuring parties are tied for first place, they run the playoff dungeon and the team with the highest score wins the title League Season Champions and season ribbons. 3. The fantasy adventuring party with the lowest score for the season is the official season loser, earning the league fantasy player the title Team Shame and a small Ribbon of Shame. a. If two or more fantasy adventuring parties are tied for last place, they too run the playoff dungeon and the fantasy adventuring party with the lowest score in the playoff dungeon is then the season loser, earning the league fantasy player the title Team Shame. 4. The league adventuring party with the lowest score for the season is the official loser, earning the league fantasy player the title Team Shame and small Team Shame ribbons. a. If two or more league adventuring parties are tied for last place, they too run the playoff dungeon and the league adventuring party with the lowest score in the playoff dungeon is then the season loser, earning the league adventuring party the title Team Shame and small Team Shame ribbons.
