Level 3 Achievement Standards 3.1 Interpret scripted text to integrate drama techniques in performance This achievement standard requires students to select and perform an extract from a play (possibly) Bertolt Brecht’s Mother Courage and her Children. The length of their individual presentations should be between 3-5 minutes. They must select and integrate a comprehensive range of appropriate drama techniques – voice, body, movement and use of space - to interpret and communicate the meaning of a drama extract in individual performance (this is preferable if they are considering Scholarship) or with a partner. 3.2 Devise and perform a drama to realise a concept This achievement standard requires students to use drama elements and conventions to devise a script and to perform a solo or paired performance. The performance will be based on an historical character and each student will source, read, and research the biography of their chosen person. The student’s understanding of their character is extended into creating and performing new material which could include actual quotes from or about the original person. Students may perform in pairs unless they are doing Scholarship. 3.6 Perform a substantial acting role in a significant production This achievement standard requires performing a substantial acting role in a scripted production. There will be a Term 2 performance of William Shakespeare’s play The Tempest. This will be assessed using the Level 3 criteria for any Year 13 students or any Year 12 deemed capable of achieving at a higher level. 3.9 Direct a a drama performance This achievement standard is an alternative for those not wishing to act in the scripted production and they would come up with the concept and direct The Tempest to capture the essence of the text. Preliminary Exam will consist of a three hour practice exam. This is an introduction to external standards 3.3 and 2.7 and will require students to discuss a drama/theatre form or period with reference to text and discuss drama elements, techniques, conventions and technologies within live performance. 3.3 Interpret a prescribed text to demonstrate knowledge of a theatre form or period This achievement standard requires discussing a drama/theatre form or period with reference to text. In this instance you will use the researched knowledge of studied during 3.6 or knowledge of a Brechtian play to reference the theatre form in detail St Patrick's College Silverstream 3
