PREFERRED SCHEME
Following an initial consultation process and a multi criteria analysis using the six common appraisal
framework criteria of:
· Safety;
· Economy;
· Environment;
· Accessibility & Social Inclusion;
· Integration; and
· Physical Activity.
The red option preformed positively on Safety, Economy, Accessibility & Social Inclusions, Integration
and Physical Activity.
The Red Preferred Option has the potential to:
• improve strategic connectivity, capacity and overall route consistency;
• reduce accident potential through the removal of local accesses and provision of longer slip
roads;
• provide separate facilities for active travel that connect to adjacent networks;
• connect with existing and planned rail stations / transport hubs;
• provide improved bus services through greater journey time reliability and potential for new
services to serve identified development sites;
• reuse parts of the existing N25 carriageway, aligning with sustainability principles;
• provide appropriate access to developments of regional importance; and
• Enhances the TEN-T network which is of national and European significance
N25 CARRIGTOHILL TO MIDLETON - PUBLIC CONSULTATION ACTIVE TRAVEL Our preferred route will include a segregated active travel route between Midleton and Carrigtohill Principles • To ensure that there are no hazards to cyclists built into scheme; • To ensure that the opportunities for cyclists within the scheme and on the surrounding networks are recognised and exploited; • The cycle network will be developed taking into account the Scheme Objectives of promoting active travel; • Development of the cycle network will take into account the needs of everyone, regardless of age or disability; and • Promotion of safer routes to school (reduction in school related car journeys).

The Red Preferred Option will be taken forward into Phase 3 Design and Environmental Evaluation.
