The Lord Will Do Wonders Among Us W hat a great blessing to start a new decade! It’s 2020, and I would like to seize this opportunity to wish you all, my dear readers, a very happy, blessed New Year. When we have a strong relationship with God and we are led by His Spirit, we are considered His sons and daughters (Romans 8:14) and therefore, we will produce fruits worthy of the Holy Spirit. We will no longer be lagging in diligence, but always be fervent in spirit. We Let us start this promising New Year by thanking God will be persisting in serving the Lord; rejoicing in hope, Almighty for all the blessings He has given us in the patient in tribulation, continuing steadfastly in prayer; past. Let us allow ourselves a few minutes to look back distributing to the needs of the saints, and given to and try to count the many occasions in which we have hospitality. (Romans 12:11-13) experienced the hand of God encouraging us, supporting us, and in some cases miraculously rescuing us – although I am sure we will not be able to remember all “And do not be conformed to this world, but be those wonderful times that God has intervened, directly transformed by the renewing of your mind, so or indirectly, in our lives. King David tried to sum it up that you may prove what the will of God is, that in his Psalm 103 when He said: “Bless the LORD, O my which is good and acceptable and perfect.” soul; And all that is within me, bless His holy name! Romans 12:2 Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all His benefits: Who forgives all your iniquities, Who heals all your diseases, Who redeems your life from destruction, It is well established that whatever we sow today we Who crowns you with loving-kindness and tender will reap sooner or later. Therefore we have to be careful mercies, Who satisfies your mouth with good things so of our actions and do things according to the will of that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s.” God. We have to honestly recognize our shortcomings and do our best to stand up for what is right. Many times Though it is good to remember the past and learn from we adopt negative positions and rely on others to stand it, it is more crucial to look toward the present and up for the Truth. Yet God wants us to be positive and prepare for the future. St. Paul said in Philippians 3:13- not to be afraid to stand up and support what is right. It 14, “…forgetting those things which are behind and is of utmost importance to please God and to be certain reaching forward to those things which are ahead, I that God will never forsake us nor let us down. press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.” Therefore, in this New Year we We have to realize that the renewal of our minds, hearts, have to try hard to renew our minds, our hearts, our and spirits is a difficult, ongoing journey that will have spirits, and our lives. To be renewed means that we ups and downs. It takes effort and complete submission change our ways of thinking, our behaviors, and even to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. It requires we our views about people or things around us. We accept the gift of the Holy Spirit and strengthen our sometimes reach a conclusion or an idea about a certain faith. We should rest assured that we will always have subject but when we submit ourselves to the Will of God victory over all the obstacles we may face. This we have to look at that subject from His point of view, conviction should lead us to be unshaken in our faith as so that we can have the mindset of Christ. we read in 1 Corinthians 15:57-58, “Therefore, my beloved, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in We also need to renew our hearts and attitudes. When the work of the Lord, knowing that your labor is not in we spend more time with God reading His word, pray- vain in the Lord.” ing and contemplating His unconditional love, we will spend less time thinking of how others have hurt our God has promised us that He will watch over us from feelings or mistreated us. The more we love God the the beginning of the year until its end. Based on this more we love others. When we think how much God promise, do not be afraid in 2020 because the Holy forgives our sins we will be able to forgive others also. Spirit will be with us. Therefore, we have to prepare We have to be honest with ourselves and always purify ourselves and sanctify ourselves, for tomorrow the Lord our motives, feelings and emotions, just as King David will do wonders among us. (Joshua 3:5) stated in his psalm 51:10: “Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me.” Page 7
