Sizmek ver 1.13 MSN Formats Guide This document lists all the Sizmek templates certified for MSN globally by Sizmek. They are available in the Creative Zone under “Formats & Blocks”. To download the format and build guide, type in the name in the search field in the Creative Zone. Notes: • ALL ADS RUNNING ON MSN SITES GLOBALLY MUST USE A SITE ACCOUNT LABELLED WITH “MSN” TO ENSURE PROPER PUBLISHER TRACKING • Requires Workshop Version: 5.0.5.4 or later. If utilizing video in the ad 5.0.5.4 is recommended. • Information on adding custom scripts, ad variables and wallpapers are provided later in this document • Ads should be submitted to Sizmek QA for testing of the TMX implementation Billboard Format Format Search: Billboard MXP latest version: 2.2.0 Script to use: http://ds.serving-sys.com/BurstingRes/CustomScripts/PL_Billboard_NewClient.js New Client Only. Requires TMX Plugin-script (See TMX Best Practices Below) English Demo: http://ads1.msn.com/ads/demos/eSurance/eSurance_970x250_Billboard_2_19_14_Permanent.htm *Note that the Billboard MXP/ZXP contains both a standard Billboard and Drag To Expand Billboard templates. Each has a 970x250 and 300x250 version available. The 970x250 template should be used in almost all cases. The ad format can be resized to accommodate a smaller default image if the local market requests it. For example, a 970x70 is used in the MSN US homepage. To resize the ad unit, both the default image and the banner.swf file need to be sized to match the requested default image size. The 300x250 option allows Billboard to be served from a 300x250 ad container. The ad variables for the leavebehind and pushdown anchors must be used to position the Billboard and leavebehind in the intended page location with a DIV ID. The 300x250 ad space will be collapsed when this is used. This is no longer common and not recommended for any MSN market. It is NOT compatible with the MSN TMX site. Billboard Expand Format (“Drag to Expand” Template) Format Search: Billboard MXP latest version: 2.2.0 Script to use: http://ds.serving-sys.com/BurstingRes/CustomScripts/PL_Billboard_Expand_NewClient.js New Client Only. MSN For Windows 8 (TMX) Overview This section covers the details for building ads that support both the MSN Classic and MSN For Windows 8 (TMX) Websites. If working with a Sizmek Custom Format that is not include by default into the Sizmek Workshop, please refer to the format’s build guide for build information specific to that format. The purpose of this document is to cover additional requirements for all formats that are supported on the TMX sites. The TMX sites have a responsive design created specifically for IE10 in Windows 8, which by default will redirect to this site. All other browser/operating system combinations are directed to the MSN Classic sites. The MSN TMX sites are designated with a “t” at the beginning of the URL, for example: t.msn.com (US) and t.uk.msn.com (UK). Adding TMX Support To Sizmek Formats In order for Sizmek formats to function properly on both the MSN Classic and MSN For Windows 8 (TMX) sites, one or more custom scripts must be added and configured. See “Configuring Custom Scripts” below for information on how to configure multiple scripts. Copyright © 2014 Sizmek. All rights reserved. 4
Sizmek ver 1.13 Formats TMX Plug-In Script Formats TMX Plug-In Script: http://ds.serving-sys.com/BurstingRes/CustomScripts/PL_MSN_TMX_Plugin.js This script must be the first script listed in the Custom script field in the Sizmek platform. The Formats format’s TMX Plug-In Script adds the following capabilities to the ad: • ActionScript Page Detection Variables are available through the EBBase object in Flash to detect if the ad is serving on the MSN TMX site and if the page is part of an Outlook.com Redirect. Users who log out of Outlook.com are automatically redirected to the MSN Homepage (Classic or TMX) where a large Outlook logout banner appears at the top of the page. These can be used should the ad's behavior need to be adjusted for such circumstances. • Custom Variable Definitions When the Formats TMX Plug-in Script is added to a creative, Custom Variables may be added to control what script features are enabled. By default all features are active unless these variables are used to disable them Formats TMX Plug-In API The Formats TMX Plug-In Script makes two function calls available from the EBBase object that can be use to detect the MSN page the ad is serving on. Function Calls EBBase.GetVar("mdIsTmx"): Boolean Returns a value of true if the ad is serving on an MSN TMX page EBBase.GetVar("mdOutlookRedirect"):Boolean Returns a value of true if the ad is serving on a page that was redirected from an Outlook.com redirect. Sizmek ver 1.13 Custom Variables Definitions Default Accepted Name:Type Description Value Values msnTmxEnableZIndex : Boolean Yes If set to "No" the script will not affect Yes/No the z-index of the ad msnTmxEnableAutoReposition : Boolean Yes Workshop templates require a value Yes/No of “Yes”. If the ad is a custom format that has AutoReposition functionality by default, set this to “No” to avoid conflicts. msnTmxEnableUnload : Boolean Yes Enables the TMX Ad Unload Yes/No functionality which ensures the ad will be fully hidden when the TMX responsive design hides the ad in its 1-column view. See Known Issues. mdPanelsForWmode : String N/A Any panel names passed in this Any variable will have their WMode set to String "opaque". Multiple panel names can be used by separating each with a "$" character. (eg. Panel1$Panel2) See Known Issues for more information. mdMsnHPSupport : Boolean No This variable should be set to “No” for Yes/No all ads except those running on the MSN US Homepage. If the following Custom Variables are present in the platform, ensure the values are set as follows: mdAutoReposition : Boolean Yes Required to ensure proper panel Yes/No alignment on TMX and Classic pages. If “Yes” ensure msnTmxEnableAutoReposition is set to “No” mdAutoRepositionInterval : Integer 100 Interval in milliseconds that Any positioning is checked. Integer Copyright © 2014 Sizmek. Sizmek ver 1.13 Wallpaper TMX Plug-In Script Wallpaper TMX Plug-In Script: http://ds.serving-sys.com/BurstingRes/CustomScripts/PL_Wallpaper_Plugin_MSN_NewClient.js This script is required to be added to all custom wallpaper units. It will automatically disable the wallpaper on TMX pages if the wallpaper is set to be visible on load. If wallpaper functions are required from Flash (showing Flash gutters, or a skin on/off toggle button) use the functions provided by the Formats Plug-In Script API to create the conditions to handle this when not served on a MSN TMX page. NOTES: • This script must be listed directly after the PL_WallpaperFeature_NewClient.js script in order to function properly. • The Wallpaper Tool should be set to make the wallpaper visible on load if the wallpaper is non-user-initiated. Custom Variables Definitions Default Accepted Name:Type Description Value Values mdHPWrapperClip: Boolean No Set to yes if ad is running on an MSN homepage and the Yes/No horizontal navigation bar needs to be clipped to the page content width so that it does not overlap the wallpaper in the gutter areas. mdHPWrapperColor: String “none” Use this to set a fill color for the page content in the event that #ffffff or there are transparent areas where the wallpaper is bleeding other through. Use hex values for color. (e.g. white would use colors “#ffffff”) Example Ad Below is an example of a typical wallpaper set up to run with a 970x90 banner. It includes both a background image and transparent Flash gutters for illustrative purposes. All of the Actionscript is included in the second frame of the Sizmek_970x90_wallpaper_PRIMARY.fla file. Sizmek ver 1.13 Configuring Custom Scripts Custom Scripts must be configured in the Sizmek platform for all ads that support them. Custom formats will automatically configure its default script that supports the platform’s old client mechanism (OCM). This script must be updated to the new client mechanism (NCM) in the platform. Configuring in Platform In the Sizmek platform, go to the Setup tab. Select the Advanced Features section, and expand the Custom JS section Cut and paste the required scripts into the text field labeled “Trigger JavaScript on Scripts Pre-load” Multiple scripts can be added by separating each script with a semi-colon. When you are done, click the Save button. Configuring Custom Variables Custom Variables for all ads can be configured using either the Sizmek Workshop or the Sizmek Platform once your ad is created. Configuring in Workshop In the Sizmek workshop, go to the Settings tab. Next select the Variables menu. Click the Add Variable button to enter the appropriate values or double click an existing variable to edit it. When are done click the Save button. When you upload the ad these values will maintain their state in the platform. Configuring in Platform In the Sizmek platform, go to the Setup tab. Select the Advanced Features section, and expand the Variables area. Click the New button to enter the appropriate values or double click an existing variable to edit it. When you are done, click the Save button. Known Issues • Ads will not appear on the TMX site after the browser is resized or zoomed to cause the page to enter its 1- column arrangement. This is by page design. • When using two ExternalInterface calls sequentially, the second call may not fire. Include a small delay using setTimeout to create a half-second delay between calls to ensure there is not conflict. See the example ad above for reference. • The responsive design of the MSN For Windows 8 site will scale all page content including the ads at browser widths below 920 pixels. This scaling may cause ads with panels that are set to transparent in the platform to become unresponsive to mouse events over some areas. One workaround is to set the panels to a WMode of "opaque" This can be done through the Formats TMX Plug-In Script where you can pass one or more panel names through the Ad Variable "mdPanelsForWmode". • Loading creative with wallpapers with DAAT may exhibit longer than expected load times. In addition some users in FF may not see gutter panels load consistently. These issues have been identified as DAAT issues and should not affect live ads. See the example ad above for best practices for wallpaper units. Copyright © 2014 Sizmek. All rights reserved. 8
