MONONA MESSENGER APRIL 2021 Where Is Your Heart? There is a story of a wise woman who was traveling in the mountains when she found a precious stone in a stream. The next day she met another traveler who was hungry, and the wise woman opened her bag to share her food. The hungry traveler saw the precious stone and asked the woman to give it to him. She did so without hesitation. The traveler left rejoicing in his good fortune. He knew the stone was worth enough to give him security for a lifetime. But a few days later, he came back to return the stone to the wise woman. “I’ve been thinking,” he said, “I know how valuable this stone is, but I give it back in the hope that you can give me something even more precious. Give me what you have within you that enabled you to give me this stone.” In this story, we have two travelers. The male traveler initially celebrated what he thought was his wonderful new fortune. This precious stone given to him by the woman would provide him with a lifetime of financial security. However, he makes a 180-turn in his thinking when he realizes that the generous heart demonstrated by the woman was even more precious than what the stone could provide. In his new paradigm, he sees life differently; he gains a new perspective on life. He realizes that a giving and loving heart is far more important than earthly treasures. The question for each of us to consider is “Where is my heart?” Stewardship of the Gospel is about the heart. Those who faithfully serve and follow Jesus love Him wholeheartedly. The condition of our hearts determines whether we will serve ourselves, the things of this world, or Jesus. When our hearts are right with God, we will have peace and contentment, and He can use us to make a difference in other people’s lives. Our Holy week and Easter celebrations are a time for sinners to repent, a time for offenders to confess, a time for prodigals to return, but most of all a time to rejoice over the enormity of our Savior’s love. May this Easter season be a time for you to be reminded once again of the price your Savior paid for your redemption, and remembering with your new heart to rededicate your self to Him in spreading the message of this incredible news—Christ Crucified In Christ, the Gift to be shared, Pastor Nowak

our stewardship is not seen in what we get money into the temple treasury. He saw rich from God but rather how He uses us to share men dropping their coins in and then “a our blessings with others. Because we are selfish and greedy people, we are more interested in keeping what we have and wanting even more. To enable us to be loving and sharing stewards, God changes our hearts. With transformed hearts filled with God’s love, we seek opportunities to use the blessings He has entrusted to us to help others. God’s blessings pass through us to others. We are blessed to be a blessing. What these two had in common was their willingness to share what they had with The Blessing of Wealth others. God supplied their needs and Is it sinful to be wealthy? A frequent answer to that question is that we fear being rejected. Of course, we’ll be rejected! Christ Himself was “despised and rejected by men” (Isaiah 53:3), and Jesus said, “No servant is greater than his master. If they persecuted Me, they will persecute you also.” But He added, “If they obeyed My teaching, they will obey yours also” (John 15:20). Not all will reject us or the words we speak in Christ’s name. Surely, for Christ’s sake and by His grace, we can endure whatever mistreatment we receive in His name for the fruit that will result. Prayer: O Lord, You are from everlasting to everlasting. Thank You for my Savior Who has lived the perfect life on earth in my place and Who will turn the dust of my body into a glorified body which will live eternally with You in Heaven. Help me to be an ambassador for Your wonderful love, grace, and mercy. Through Christ, Son of God and Son of Man, I pray. Amen. Blessings on your stewardship journey!
