05/27/2019 MONDAY MEMO CONFIRMING GATE NUMBERS Departing/Connecting Flights We received a lot of feedback with regards to the email Meagen sent out about confirming flight information and would like to share some of the great suggestions we received. Always look at the number on the boarding pass, not just the concourse letter You can refer to your orange lanyard card to confirm what concourse a gate is in Ask if it is a Domestic, International or US flight Confirm the destination, if they are connecting and which airline they are travelling with If you are a new volunteer or would like a refresher, buddy up with another volunteer or contact the White Hat Team office to set up a tour or shadow shift with a GO Team member If you notice the FIDS screens are showing the incorrect concourse for departing flights, please notify the IOC (Integrated Operations Centre) at 403-735-1300 x5. YYC OPERATIONAL UPDATES Congratulations to WestJet for launching service to Paris WestJet officially began its four times weekly non-stop service to Paris on another one of its new Dreamliners, marking a historic day for YYC! Air Canada Announcement Air Canada announced today it is in exclusive talks to buy Transat AT Inc. for approximately $520 million, or $13 a share. If you are unsure if it has been reported please notify the office. THE NEW WHITE HAT SYSTEM The new White Hat System goes live Monday May 27. An office member will be available in the Domestic Volunteer Lounge at different shift start times to assist with logging in to the system and answering any questions you may have. pg. 1
05/27/2019 MONDAY MEMO COMMERCIAL & RETAIL Travelex Open at 0600 Travelex will now open at 0600 in the International Arrivals location – and will continue on until June 30 until 7-11 opens who will have the pre-paid credit cards that can be purchased via US dollars. WHITE HAT VOLUNTEER EVENTS GO Team Refresher Training If you are a GO Team member and have not yet attended one of this year’s Refresher training sessions please contact the office. Our next sessions will be held: Wednesday June 5 – 10:00-12:00 Sunday June 16 – 10:00-12:00 TEVOP (Club Cart) Safety Refresher Ongoing throughout the year Club Cart Driver Training Once you have a volunteered with the program for six months you are eligible for Club Cart training. If you are interested and hold a valid Alberta’s driver’s license, please notify the office and we will set up training for you. RAIC PROCESS If your RAIC is going to expire within the next two months, please call the office to discuss next steps. When you come in to fill out the forms for your RAIC renewal you will need to bring in the following to complete the paperwork and show to members of the pass office. Passport Birth Certificate Canadian Citizenship Please keep in mind that security processes and procedures at Transport Canada are becoming tighter every year. This means that things we were able to do when completing RAIC application forms 5 years ago may no longer be allowed. The application process can take time but we are here to help you through it so please be patient and we will get through this together! 05/27/2019 MONDAY MEMO Congrats to Janet! When We Were Shadows is a junior high school novel written by Janet Wees, a White Hatter. The novel was recently nominated for the Red Maple Non-Fiction Award with the Forest of Reading, sponsored by the Ontario Library Association. It was chosen as one of three finalists in its category and subsequently was named Honour Book #1 (second place) in Toronto. The novel has also been shortlisted for the 2020 Rocky Mountain Book Award. 05/27/2019 MONDAY MEMO HOT SHIFTS Please let the office know when absent and when covering a shift. Shifts in RED are HOT and require extra assistance. When covering a shift, please check in with the team on duty to see what areas they require assistance. BAGGAGE TOUR Our next Baggage Tour will be held on June 05 from 10:00- 12:00, if you are interested in attending please email the whitehatteam@yyc.com and we will add your name to the draw. Please only submit your name if you have not yet attended. We have received lots of great feedback about these tours and know it can get frustrating to keep trying. 05/27/2019 MONDAY MEMO TRAVEL ALBERTA Starting May 1 and up until September 4, Cathy, Michelle and Goldie will be manning one of three Travel Alberta informational kiosks seven days a week providing tourism council for Alberta attractions and activities. The small but mighty team of four, including Heather, their supervisor, will be mobile to welcome arriving guests based on inbound traffic. The team will be equipped to answer travelers’ questions while collecting data regarding tourism demographics. The kiosk ambassadors, who will sport bright blue or black branded shirts, have the skill and ability to assists passengers as they have a diverse background in hospitality and tourism. All three kiosk staff speak Mandarin to assist Chinese travelers and others. Kiosk locations include; Car Rentals, Meeting Place “B” and Meeting Place “D”. When waiting with a club cart for passengers to exit CBSA in International arrivals, please pull the cart up as not to be blocking the Kiosk and screen which have been placed adjacent to Bistro on the Bow temporarily for the summer. We appreciate your cooperation. CIWA INTERN We would like to introduce you to Amina. Amina, who grew up in France is an intern from Calgary Immigrant Women’s Association who will be here with us over the next nine weeks assisting the White Hat Team. Amina - “I’m really glad to be a part of the White Hat Team and I wish I’ll learn as much as possible from all of you. Apparently Stampede is going to be very busy so I’ll do my best to help you all.
