STATE OF PLAY
•   The Games is on schedule and on budget and will
    play a significant role in the post-COVID recovery of
    the Midlands region and the UK.
•   We are ever mindful of the challenging and
    unpredictable times, but we still have more than 12
    months to go before the Games start.
•   We’ll continue to monitor the evolving global
    situation and work with leading public health
    experts.
•   We’ll learn from other major UK and international
    events that will take place before Birmingham 2022.

• 72 Commonwealth nations,11 days of sport 6,500
  athletes and officials
• 2.4 billion citizens across the Commonwealth
• Up to 1.5 billion global TV viewers
• Over 1 million tickets for the Games
• A 6-month cultural festival that will reach more
  than 1 million people
• Potential boost to the regional economy in excess
  of £1billion

GLASGOW AND GOLD
 COAST EXPERIENCE
• Estimated economic impact of
  AUS$1.8 billion (£970 million) to the Gold
  Coast (AUS$2.5 billion/£1.3 billion Queensland)
• Approximately 82 percent of Games-wide
  contracts, worth AUS$1.7 billion (£920 million),
  awarded to Queensland businesses
• Glasgow 2014 generated £282 million in tourism
  revenues, with visitors also travelling to other
  parts of the UK
• Almost 700,000 people travelling to the city to
  attend the Games, while the city also saw
  significant increases in tourism before and
  after the Games

PROGRAMME
AIMS
• To attract more capital investment, foreign direct investment, trade, visitors, events and
  businesses to the West Midlands, Midlands and the UK
• Designed to take advantage of the significant economic opportunities created by the Games, by
  building and strengthening connections with important overseas markets
WHO IS INVOLVED AND HOW IS IT FUNDED?
• Delivered in partnership by Department for Digital, Culture, Media & Sport (DCMS), West
  Midlands Combined Authority (WMCA), the West Midlands Growth Company (WMGC), the
  Department for International Trade (DIT) and VisitBritain.
• £24million programme is funded by £21.3million from central government and a £2.6million
  investment from the West Midlands Combined Authority

   BATP activity is due to start in the summer, with the programme running until late 2023

TICKETS
• The ‘Games for everyone’ will have tickets
  starting from just £8 for under 16s and from
  £15 for adults.
• Every single session will have tickets available
  for £22, including the Opening and Closing
  Ceremonies and all medal sessions.
• Our programme is complemented by 5 free
  road events and our Cultural and Live Sites
  programme.
• For events in the West Midlands, your Games
  ticket includes access to public transport in
  the local area on the day of your event. Full
  details will be issued late 2021.
• A ticket ballot is the fairest way of giving
  everyone a chance to apply for tickets.
