Tom’s Humour Page A psychiatrist was conducting a group therapy session with four young mothers and their small children. "You all have obsessions," he observed. To the first mother, Mary, he said, "You are obsessed with eating. You've even named your daughter Candy." He turned to the second Mom, Ann: "Your obsession is with money.. Again, it manifests itself in your child's name, Penny." He turned to the third Mom, Joyce: "Your obsession is alcohol. This too shows itself in your child's name, Brandy." At this point, the fourth mother, Heather, quietly got up, took her little boy by the hand, and whispered, "Come on, Dick, this guy has no idea what he's talking about. Let's pick up Peter and Willy from school and get some dinner". A dog walks into a butcher shop and the butcher asks, “What do you want?” The dog points to steak in a glass case. “How many pounds?” The dog barks twice. “Anything else?” The dog points to some pork chops and barks four times. So the butcher wraps up a two-pound steak and four pork chops, and places the bag in the dog’s mouth. He then takes money from a purse tied around the dog’s neck, and sees him out. A customer, who has been watching in amazement, follows the dog to a house several blocks away, where it rings the doorbell to be let in. As the owner appears at the door, the customer says, “What a remarkable dog!”“Remarkable?” snorts the owner. “This is the second time this week he’s forgotten his keys.” A man boards a plane and is seated next to an Air Marshall and his ‘sniffing dog’. Soon, the plane takes off and the Marshall says, “Sniffer, search.” The dog walks along the aisle, and stops next to a woman. He then returns to his seat and puts a paw on the Marshall’s arm. “Good boy,” says the Marshall. “What happened?” asks the man. “That woman is in possession of marijuana. We’ll arrest her when we land.” Once again, Sniffer searches the aisles. He stops beside a man, then returns to his seat, and places two paws on the Marshall’s arm. “That man is carrying cocaine,” the Marshall explains. The dog walks up the aisle again, then races back, jumps into his seat, and poops all over it. “What’s going on?!” demands the man. The Marshall nervously replies, “He just found a bomb!” Hours after the end of the world, a border dispute emerged between heaven and hell. God invited the devil for conversations to find a way to resolve this dispute quickly. Satan, the devil, proposed a football game between heaven and hell. God, always fair, told the devil, "The heat must be affecting your brain, the game would be so one sided, don't you know all the 'good' players go to heaven?" The devil, smiling, responded "Yeah, but we've got all the refs'..." The fooball stadium corridor, two fans were talking... First fan:"I wish I'd brought the piano to the stadium." Second fan: "Why would you bring a piano to the football game?" First fan: "Because I left the tickets on it." And not to forget our soccer fans… A man arrives at the gates of heaven, where St. Peter greets him and says: "Before I can let you enter I must ask you what you have done in your life that was particularly good." The man racks his brains for a few minutes and then admits to St. Peter that he hasn't done anything particularly good in his life. "Well," says St. Peter, "have you done anything particularly brave in your life?" "Yes, I have," replies the man proudly. St. Peter asks the man to give an account of his bravery. So the man explains, "I was refereeing this important match between Liverpool and Manchester United at Anfield. The score was 0-0 and there was only one more minute of play to go in the second half when I awarded a penalty against Liverpool at the Kop end." "Yes," responded St. Peter, "I agree that was a real act of bravery. Can you perhaps tell me when this took place?" "Certainly," the man replied, "about three minutes ago."

PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE FEBRUARY 2018 As we enter the second month of the New Year it is time to put on our thinking caps and start to think about who you want to serve as your President, Vice President and Executive members for the upcoming term. Although the Nomination Meeting is not until April, it will be upon us before we know it, It is important to all Members that we elect a full slate of Officers this year, something this Branch has not done for the past several years. As far as the Branch is concerned it is holding its own in terms of Bar Sales, Funeral Lunches etc. Where we are falling down is in support for Branch run functions. The Dinner Dance scheduled for March 3rd where we have contracted for a live band, In spite of all sorts of advertising for this function ticket sales to date are nonexistent. This means ZERO. It is very disappointing for the Entertainment chair, who is trying to bring people into the Branch to get no support from you the members. Each Monday and Thursday we have a good crowd at noon, enjoying a BarBQue Lunch and a few glasses of pop & beer and generally keep the bar steward busy on these two days. The rest of the week patrons are few and far between. The noon hour Bar BQs do bring a fair amount of revenue into the Branch and once again these are being run by far too few volunteers. Help is still required to keep these Lunches going. I am not going to belabour the lack of Volunteers as I think this subject has been spoken to often enough. I will ask again, start thinking of the Executive you want in place by April of this year and, I ask PLEASE, IF YOU ARE NOMINATED FOR A POSITION ON THE EXECUTIVE PLEASE STAND FOR THE OFFICE YOU ARE NOMINATED FOR. Archie Neilson President Branch 594 Editors Report Website update To meet the needs and desires of the membership, the Branch was interested in a fully functional website that is regularly updated with pertinent information relating to the events and services offered by the Branch. In November 2017, the Branch received bids from several local web designers. Each were interviewed and Web Geeks was recommended and selected to design the website. Web Geeks is a local company with more than 20 years of marketing experience. Over the course of two months, Tom Friesen and Dave Pickford worked with Web Geeks to develop an informative website. In January 2018, the website went live, www.rcl594.com Take a tour. Click on the various tabs and buttons to see what is going on: everything from how to become a member to renting a banquet hall. The Calendar page includes up-to-date information on upcoming events and services provided by the Branch. There is also an area for testimonials and our Cadet program.
The monthly newsletter has not gone by the wayside; it is now here on the web as well with a 12- month archive of previous newsletters. Branch 594 also has a Facebook page and a Twitter account with links to these pages. We hope you enjoy the website. Of course, we are open to your ideas and suggestions; even if you have an interesting article you want added. Dave Pickford is the site webmaster. Dave can be contacted at: dpickford@rcl594.com Thank you to Bill Gin for hosting the website for the last couple of years. Entertainment ARE YOU READY FOR SOME WINGS? As he was walking to the golf car park to get his Range Rover, a policeman stopped him and asked', Did you tee off on the seventeenth hole about twenty minutes ago?' 'Yes', Robert answered 'Did you happen to slice your ball so that it went over the trees and out of bounds and completely off the golf course?' 'Yes, I did. How did you know?' Robert questioned. 'Well', said the policeman gravely', Your golf ball flew out onto the main road and crashed through the windscreen of a BMW. The car driver lost control and crashed into six other cars and a fire engine. The fire engine was unable to reach the fire in time and the building burned down. Now, what do you intend to do about it?' Robert thought it over very carefully and responded', I think I'll close my stance a little bit, tighten my grip and lower my right thumb…
