In the recent school board meeting, talked about tests and surveys they used to collect data in December. They used examples from the data, and from this talked about what programs they are starting up and continuing from this. The 2020 data collected, was interesting to see – the pandemic had an effect on what students absorbed, and mental health issues that have come from that. Essentially, there was a disturbance in literacy and numeracy, and so the programs that they structure, will help play catch up on this to help make up the time that was lost in 2020. Really touched on mental health as they do tests in grade 4 and 7. They provide surveys to students and they self-describe their own wellbeing. It showed a decline in all areas. They are bringing a lot of programs forward to help deal with that. ● Principal/Vice-Principal’s Report 1. Can we use this information to start structuring programs that need a bit of extra help. Mental health issues have jumped up a lot in recent years. Some of the programs the district is starting the launch are site based mental health leads. Who are the leads at McCammon? Would they be interested in coming to one of our meetings and talk to us about how our school is affected? Can we bring something back that kids need (like milk program), really cater what we do as PAC to hit some of the areas that are lacking? ■ Brad Driscoll: in the middle or working through the MDI (this year doing grade 5 and 8). Grade 4’s are often at the receiving end of these tests so they have moved it up to spread it out, but also to see the comparison from last year. We had a very high percentage of students last year that felt a sense of belonging at school. ■ We will wait for the MDI to come out this year, and then will share after.
