Dates and theme Upstream - Festival of Art + Born under the banner of Two Cities One Community, the festival embodies the theme Culture will be staged from Friday, of partnership which makes Albury-Wodonga March 6 to Monday, March 9, unique. Key messages • AlburyCity and Wodonga Council will host a new four-day arts and cultural festival that will span both cities in March next year. • Upstream will be an arts and culture festival that will give everyone a chance to explore an immersive experience of nationally acclaimed artists and local performers across four days, two cities and one amazing festival. • It will be held over the Victorian long weekend from March 6 to 9, 2020. • The program will focus on art installations, theatrical experiences, quality music entertainment, spectacular artistic performers that defy space and height, exhibitions and professional development opportunities that will be family friendly, with free and low-cost options and accessible. • The festival’s locations include Noreuil Park, Belvoir Park, Gateway Island, Junction Square and The Cube Wodonga. Your guide to the event weekend Lead-up to the event Information will be shared on the festival’s social media channels and website Media releases will be distributed with information on key activities, launches and opportunities. Please email media@wodonga.vic.gov.au if you would like to be included on the list. Inquiries should be directed to the Wodonga Council Communications team. Event weekend Due to the dispersed nature of the festival and expected crowds, all media intending to attend need to register and receive media credentials from the Communications team either before or at the event. Media accreditation allows staff to estimate the level of media interest and ensure the smooth running of the event. This is for the safety of patrons and allows staff, volunteers and performers to recognise media personnel. Artist arrangements may be such that photography and video may be limited or prohibited. Media personnel are asked to follow the instructions of staff and volunteers at all times. Media personnel who are unregistered or do not display credentials may be asked to move on or cease their activities. The full program of events will be available from November. Population Albury-Wodonga is the 19th largest city in Australia with a population of 95,196 residents servicing a regional population of 180,000. Climate The region experiences a Mediterranean climate which means the changes of season are quite vivid – with hot dry summers, mild autumns and springs and cool winters. Crossing Place – A story of Albury is a permanent exhibition telling the story from the first contact with the Wiradjuri, the traditional owners of the land, to the city as it stands today. Arts Space Wodonga is undergoing redevelopment as part of Wodonga’s Library Gallery redevelopment $10.2 million project. It will provide an accessible and fit-for-purpose facility that provides a program of arts and culture to residents and visitors. Bonegilla Migrant Experience provides a poignant and evocative reflection into what camp life was like for the more than 300,000 migrants who called it home between 1947 and 1971. Only Block 19 stands as a stark reminder of the past with memorabilia and audio recollections by former residents providing a snapshot of life for these early migrants. Burraja Gallery in the Gateway Village arts precinct provides the opportunity to discover the richness and diversity of local contemporary Aboriginal art. Through the gallery buy gifts, jewellery, artworks and artefacts. Burraja Gallery is an Aboriginal Artists Enterprise which supports local Aboriginal artists. HotHouse Theatre in the Gateway Village arts precinct showcases robust Australian playwriting at the rustic Butter Factory Theatre, a truly inspirational space and memorable venue. Gateway Village is an arts and cultural precinct that brings together a number of smaller galleries and theatre productions along with food and entertainment. GIGS Gateway Island Gallery and Studios - featuring contemporary works by more than 50 regional artists, including painting, drawing, sculpture, ceramics, photography, textiles and jewellery. Visit to see the artists at work. Albury Wodonga Woodcrafters The Cottage Gallery - the gallery features items crafted from recycled and salvaged timbers. Watch artists at work. Albury Wodonga Artists Society - formed in 1987, the studio is open to the public six days a week and the society also holds workshops. Creators Art Space - an artist-run community-oriented print studio, workshop and exhibition space, featuring regular exhibitions in their gallery. Murray Art Museum Albury (MAMA) MAMA is an all-encompassing contemporary art experience, balancing international touring exhibitions with deep connections to the regional surrounds and cultural identity. Every corner of MAMA is bold, vibrant and alive and it features a stunning 24-hour “art skin”, interactive workshops and immersive cultural experiences. The Cube Wodonga is a multipurpose, conference and performance facility in Wodonga’s CBD. The venue hosts touring bands and theatre shows, local performances, film screenings and more. The performance season includes comedy, dance, music, morning melodies and children’s theatre. Wodonga Library is located at 194 High St during construction of Wodonga’s Library Gallery $10.2 million redevelopment. In addition to its collection of books, magazines and newspapers, it offers a range of programs to cater for everyone; from Story Time to tech sessions for seniors and everything in between. Yindyamarra Sculpture Walk is a giant evolutionary step back into Aboriginal Dreamtime, with 5.3km of interactive indigenous art installations on the 8.5km-long Wagirra Trail.
