MCPL FALL 2021 News & Programs at Middle Country Public Library Middle Country Reads If the Creek Don’t Rise Become part of Middle Country Reads and pledge to read Leah Weiss’ riveting novel, If the Creek Don’t Rise. With equal parts Southern Gothic menace and heartbreaking optimism, If the Creek Don’t Rise explores the limits that people can endure before they are willing and able to move beyond them. Visit www.middlecountryreads.org to pledge to read and register for Leah Weiss’ visit to the library on Tuesday, October 12th from 7:00 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. Leah will speak to us about the origins of her compelling first novel, If the Creek Don’t Rise, give us some insights into her second novel, All the Little Hopes, and we’ll wrap up with a book signing. We hope to see you there! Throughout the summer, community members of all ages contributed their talents to our Community Mosaic project. The project began in June with kick-off sessions featuring mosaic artist Libby Hintz, where participants learned about the mosaic art form. During July and August, library patrons attended numerous workshops and drop-in sessions, creating close to 500 individual mosaic panels. The mosaics reflect the colors and design aesthetic of the Selden building, where they will adorn the walls of the program hallway. Please join us on Saturday, October 23rd at 11:00 am for the Installation Celebration of this special community art project. All are welcome! This project is made possible with funds from the Decentralization Program, a regrant program of the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of Governor Andrew M. Cuomo and the New York State Legislature and administered by the Huntington Arts Council. Additional support provided by the Middle Country Library Foundation. With ASL instructor Jennie Sardone, our children and teens have learned how music and sign language uniquely combine, creating a beautiful celebration for the ears and eyes. Children from Grade 1 to HS seniors are invited to explore ASL programs weekly from October - May, with a grand finale performance for friends and family. Miss Jennie’s Flashing Fingers club has performed all around the Middle Country Community including veterans and nursing homes, street fairs, and Brookhaven Town’s National Night Out.
