CITY OF FENTON—NEWS & VIEWS JULY—AUGUST 2021 Dear Neighbors, MAYOR’S Where has the summer gone? Don’t you agree that time is passing much too fast? CORNER Soon schools will start again, and we will be into fall. At least this summer we escaped the ravages of Mother Nature unlike the summer of the past when we had extensive flooding. We have been able to use our parks to the fullest this summer with sports and family activities. It is so great to see everyone enjoying the parks. I wanted to share some ‘good press’ that our City has received recently. On June 24, 2021, I was a guest on the noon airing of ‘St. Louis Talks’ program on KMOX Radio (the Mighty Mox!) with Carol Daniel, Ryan Wrecker, and Bo Matthews. It was a wonderful opportunity to talk about good things going on in our City, specifically the activity at Fenton Logistics Park. I had an opportunity to highlight many of the companies who have moved into the Logistics Park and talk about what is still to come. I also explained the City’s process for approving new companies/industry to occupy space in the development. In addition, there was an article in the St. Louis Post Dispatch on Sunday July 4, 2021, that discussed Fenton Logistics Park. The focus was on the fact that it is a mixed use area developed with offices and warehouses, with 43 acres left to be populated with hotels and restaurants. My comments were about the fact that all this industry and development is great, but it will not replace the jobs and income from utility fees we received from Chrysler. However, I was quick to point out that any business/industry is better than none and that the developer, US Capitol Development, has brought in some big names. All of this helps our City’s tax revenues. In order to help prevent crime in our area, and ensure your safety and that of your property, please lock your cars! See Page 3 for more preventable crime information. The Outdoor Leisure Pool at RiverChase will remain closed for the remainder of the season due to a leaking issue. We have been working with contractors to address the leaking issues at the Outdoor Leisure Pool by performing dye testing and pressure tests. We will continue to work with contractors to pinpoint the areas and to rectify the our pool issues that we saw while filling the pool this season. A quick reminder, if you have not signed up for alerts from the City regarding road closures, etc., please take a moment to do so. These alerts can help you stay clear of problem areas due to the bridge/highway construction or flooded roads. For example, on June 21 there was a precautionary boil order advisory alert sent by Nixle. It is an easy way to stay informed of issues that affect our City. To sign up for these alerts go to www.fentonmo.org and click the Nixle button on the lower left corner of the homepage or text FENTONMO to 888777. Working for you for a better Fenton. BACK TO SCHOOL SALES TAX HOLIDAY Bob Brasses, Fenton Resident and Mayor (636) 343-2080 ext. 1109 This August, the City of Fenton will be participating in the 2021 Missouri Sales Tax Holiday. By state law, the MayorBrasses@Fentonmo.org sales tax holiday begins on the first Friday in August and continues through the following Sunday. In 2021, the three-day holiday begins at 12:01 a.m. on Friday, August 6, and runs through Sunday, August 8. Certain back-to- school purchases such as clothing, school supplies, computers, and other items as defined by the statute are exempt from sales tax for this time period only.
