Post Ref: 010222 Maynooth University Ollscoil Mhá Nuad Maynooth University Access Programme Outreach Officer (Permanent, Full Time) The Role The Maynooth University Access Programme (MAP) works in partnership across the university and alongside learners, schools, and communities under-represented in higher education (HE) to increase equity of access to HE and support student success. MAP provides direct support to students from socio-economic groups that have low participation in HE, first time mature student entrants, students with disabilities, part-time/flexible learners, further education award holders and members of the Irish Traveller and Roma communities with the objective of supporting the access, retention, and success of such students in higher education. MAP is seeking to appoint an Outreach Officer. Reporting to the Director of Access, the post holder will complement and build on the existing good practice developed at Maynooth University. The post holder will work within a team contributing to the design, implementation, and evaluation of a coherent targeted MAP Outreach Programme (to include outreach activities, pathways, and transitions to HE) with the objective of supporting the access, retention, and success of learners under-represented in higher education. The Outreach Officer will promote opportunities and pathways to progress to HE and will provide targeted information and advice to prospective students and their families to support them to successfully navigate third level systems. The Outreach Officer will also support student success through the development and delivery of the Launchpad Orientation programme and the MAP Student Ambassador Programme and will also contribute to the development of a MAP outreach strategy to address access and widening participation objectives. Principal Duties Administrative and other duties: • Contribute to the design, implementation, and evaluation of an integrated and targeted MAP Outreach Programme (to include outreach activities, supplementary pathways, and transitions to HE) in partnership with key stakeholders including schools, communities, and advocacy organisations with the objective of supporting the access, retention, and success of students underrepresented in higher education. 1
Post Ref: 010222 • Lead the development and delivery of the Launchpad orientation programme to enable students to make a successful transition to third level study. • Lead the MAP Student Ambassador Programme developing strategies to facilitate Maynooth University students to actively participate in the MAP Outreach Programme. • Research, develop and implement initiatives/strategies/partnerships to enhance the Outreach Programme in the context of national targets, the Maynooth University Strategic Plan and best practice. • Provide targeted advice and guidance to prospective students and their families on the pathways and supports available to assist them to successfully access and navigate third level processes and systems. • Support the development of flexible pathways to HE including the Higher Education Access Route (HEAR), the Disability Access Route to Education (DARE), Mature Student entry routes and Foundation Certificate/ preparatory programmes. • Develop targeted communications materials, developing handbooks, content for the Maynooth University website and the MAP Moodle and social media channels, ensuring relevant information is clearly communicated and promoted to target audiences. • Represent Maynooth University on committees to support widening participation and support a whole of institutional approach to outreach and civic engagement. • Support the production of key performance metrics on Outreach Programme objectives and outcomes and disseminate findings and research output. • Contribute to training for staff to support inclusion at Maynooth University. • Perform other duties/projects as directed by the Director of Access or nominee. The ideal candidate will have: • Three or more years’ experience working with and supporting students from socio-economic groups that have low participation in HE in educational or community development settings. • Thorough knowledge and understanding of the barriers and issues that impact access, participation, and student success in education and a deep knowledge of educational disadvantage and widening participation in higher education. • Experience of developing and innovating inclusive practice and policy development, and operational delivery with a large set of diverse stakeholders. • Strong evidence of ability to build productive professional relationships internally and externally with excellent communication, influencing and negotiation skills. • Excellent oral, written, presentation, and digital skills with excellent inter-personal skills and an ability to foster strong relationships and networks with diverse student and stakeholder groups. • Proven ability to work well as part of a team but will also have demonstrated their ability to use their own initiative. • Excellent organisational, IT, and time management skills, with an ability to plan and prioritise work and meet deadlines with accuracy and attention to detail in a dynamic work environment. • Excellent project management skills with experience of organising and implementing large- scale projects. • Considerable evidence of innovation, evaluation, implementing improvements and problem solving. Mandatory: • Hold a relevant third level primary degree. • At least 3 years professional experience working with a diverse range of students within an educational or community setting. • Work experience in managing and evaluating large scale projects. 2
