Greetings,
We are very excited about the Second Semester at Mathis Elementary. All
of our students are returning to school after our Winter Break. We look
forward to a very successful nish to our school year. Teachers as well
as students are working very hard to close the gaps caused by Covid-19.
We are resuming homework at this time so be expecting a homework
folder in their backpack.
Please continue to monitor your students for any Covid-19 symptoms and follow the CDC guidelines
along with the guidelines put in place here at MES. Mathis Elementary will continue to follow the Covid-
19 guidelines that have been put in place, deep clean, and sanitize the building.
Please be patient with our staff when dropping off students in the morning as we are taking

STUDY TIPS
Mathis Elementary Weekly Update - January 11- January 15 (Intervention Week)
1. Set (and keep) a schedule
2. Make sure they have any materials necessary to complete all
assignments
3. Provide an environment conducive to learning
4. Create a daily plan
5. Don’t teach–help them understand
6. Make sure all work is completed
7. Help them check messages and communicate with school
8. Keep in mind that it’s about the child, not the work
9. Learn to identify the barriers
10. Use school resources

Celebrate Your Child's Physical And Non-Physical Attributes
Teaching your children to think positively about themselves can help develop a positive self-image that
doesn't focus entirely on appearance. Practice stating what positive attributes they have and what
they are capable of doing or becoming.
What are some things that your children like about their bodies? Do they like their smile, or how their
body helps them climb up a tree? Don't forget your children's non-physical attributes — are they kind,
funny, smart or talented at something? A regular practice of saying a rmations can reduce negative
self-talk and build your children's con dence.
Teaching your children body positivity and healthy habits around food and physical activity can have a
lasting impact on their self-esteem, self-perception and how they interact with an image-driven culture.
