Enhancing Diversity in Geriatric Nursing UIC College of Nursing EDGE program OVERVIEW Goal: Our goal is to expand, strengthen and diversify the healthcare nursing workforce to meet the needs of the elderly in underserved rural and inner-city urban areas. The EDGE program is designed to provide a rich learning experience for diverse nursing students with mentoring and guidance by faculty. At the heart of this course is active, experiential learning in clinical settings and telehealth with discussion and reflection on the unique qualities and needs of older adults across life phases. The teaching and learning focus on how nursing students can optimize the health, well-being, and quality of life of older adults in underserved areas. Scholarship: $5,300 will be awarded to each student who successfully completes all 3 semesters in the program. If not completing summer semester, scholarship amounts may be prorated. We also acknowledge geographical location plays a major role in the culture, language, education, social roles, socioeconomic status, beliefs, and ideologies with which a person is accustomed. It is important to get to know your rich history to better understand your unique and diverse experiences in life. Program Dates: The EDGE program will enroll students in Fall 2021.
