Faculty of Law Lectures, Module Booking, Exams
Faculty of Law Teaching in Fall Semester 2020 − The focus will be on digital teaching (streaming within the timetable and/or podcast, dubbed presentations, Zoom meetings, Zoom webinars etc.), not on face-to-face teaching. − Digital teaching will be accompanied by face-to-face teaching if the lecturers consider it necessary or useful. − For attending face-to-face or online lectures, a registration for the lecture is necessary. This is done by OLAT or other online platforms. 17.09.2020
Faculty of Law Registration for a face-to-face lecture and/or the online lecture For registration for a face-to-face lecture and/or the online lecture, we recommend taking the following steps: 1. Check out the course catalogue, and search for the module you want to attend. 2. Check who is teaching the course. Go to the website of the professor to find more detailed information about his or her lecture, for instance on which platform his lectures are broadcasted or if there is the possibility to attend the lecture in class: https://www.ius.uzh.ch/de/staff/professorships/alphabetical.html The information may be published at a later stage but on 14 September at the latest. 3. In most cases the materials are provided on OLAT (https://lms.uzh.ch/dmz/). Under the following link you will find instructions and more detailed information on the use of OLAT: https://help.olat.uzh.ch/display/OO114EN NOTE: registration for a lecture is not the same as module booking. Faculty of Law Module Booking − Module booking = examination registration − Book a module in the same semester in which you want to take the examination − Only modules of the current semester can be booked − To register for examinations, students must use the online module booking tool, available via this link: http://www.students.uzh.ch/en/booking.html − Participation in lectures without taking examinations is possible. Students will not receive credit points or confirmation of attendance in this case. − Booking and cancellation deadline ends on: Friday, 23 October, 2020, 24.00h 17.09.2020

Faculty of Law Master Thesis − Compulsory module − 12 ECTS Credits, will be graded − A written paper or Moot Court, Model United Nations (MUN) − Master’s thesis may be agreed individually, independently of a Master's module, with the lecturer at any time or Master’s theses may be produced as part of a seminar. − Registration • MT as part of a seminar: directly via the webpage of the lecturer: seminar topics will be published on October 1, 2020 • Individual MT: contact the supervisor, set a deadline directly − In each case, the «Master’s Thesis Agreement» must be filled out − Failed attempts do not count in fall semester 2020 and spring semester 2021 − Failed attempts count starting as of fall semester 2021! 17.09.2020
Faculty of Law Place Restrictions − Usually: no place restrictions for the law courses − There are exceptions. In fall semester 2020: • Recent Case Law of International Courts: 14 places are reserved for degree-seeking students. First come, first served. • Contract Design: only book the module if you have received a place. Faculty of Law Types Of Assessments – The following types of assessments are most common at the Faculty of Law UZH: • Written examinations • Oral examinations • Papers, presentations etc. – Additional assessment types possible – Note: so called mobility exams are not available for degree-seeking students. – Please be sure to book the module in which you want to take an examination/assessment. – Some professors may not have decided which type of examination they will offer. Faculty of Law Assessments in Fall Semester 2020 – No regular written exams will be conducted in fall semester 2020. – Written online examinations are possible. The modalities of the written online exams have yet to be defined – Whether these exams will be graded or only evaluated with pass/fail still needs to be decided. – For modules with few participants: oral examinations (e.g. also over Zoom) or alternative forms of assessment (e.g. term papers, presentations etc.) – October 23: the examination and evaluation mode will be announced for each module 17.09.2020
Faculty of Law Repeating Assessments − Each module can be repeated once − No re-examinations: the exam takes place when the lecture is offered. − Max. 30 ECTS Credits of failed attempts are allowed − Failed attempts will count starting from fall semester 2021 if they have not led to the exclusion from the studies − As of fall semester 2021: new regulations. Faculty of Law Examination Periods − Regular examinations in fall semester 2020 take place in January. The provisional dates will be published on this website: https://www.ius.uzh.ch/en/studies/general/exams/master.html − Assessment takes place earlier in some modules, e.g. during the semester or at the end of the lecture period. There are no provisional dates for these assessments available. − Regular examinations in spring semester 2021 take place from mid-June to mid-July − You will have to inform yourself about date, time and place of the regular examinations: http://www.ius.uzh.ch/en/studies/general/exams.html 17.09.2020
