Mary Ann Fiorenza was born on July 23, 1929 to Joseph and Rose Palermo in Port Arthur, Texas. She entered eternal life on April 26, 2022. Mary Anne graduated from St. James High School in Port Arthur, Texas. After graduation, she went to work in the administrative office of Jefferson Chemical Co. On June 7, 1953, Mary Ann married Augustine James Fiorenza, known as “A.J.”, in Port Arthur, Texas. She worked with A.J. in all of his business ventures. A.J. and Mary Ann owned and operated a grocery store for ten years. Later they started and operated three liquor stores and a wholesale liquor business, known as A.J.’s Discount Liquor Stores, commonly referred to as “A.J.’s”. Upon the untimely passing of A.J. Fiorenza at the age of 49, being an astute businesswoman, Mary Ann continued the operations of A.J.’s Discount Liquor. Although being a single mother and working 6 days a week was difficult, she made A.J.’s even more successful. Every customer was special to Mary Ann, and many, many customers became friends and part of the “A.J.’s family”. She had a great knowledge of wines from her travels in wineries in California, Italy, France and Germany. Christmas was a special time, and the store was transformed into a special place. Very special holiday baskets were made and sold locally and around the world. Those that came to the store during Christmas remember the festive sounds and conversations, and the smell of gourmet food from the delicatessen. One could feel the holiday spirit at A.J.’s. Mary Ann was a founding member of the Jefferson County Chapter of the Chaîne des Rôtisseurs, and honored with the title Master Sommelier. She was also a member of the Rotary Club. Mary Ann was selfless and always willing to help her family, friends, community and the Church. She lived as our Lord commanded, with love and charity. She put God and others before herself. Mary Ann always helped those less fortunate, and supported many philanthropic organizations in her community and around the world. She was part of the cooking crew for the St. Joseph Alter at St. Anthony Basilica. Mary Ann had a passion for going on religious pilgrimages. Mary Ann enjoyed the out of doors, and loved her flower garden. She enjoyed spending time and traveling with her family, her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Mary Ann is survived by her three daughters, Karen Hicks, and husband Ben, Mary Donaldson, and husband Kelly, and Sharon McGinnis, and husband Patrick. She is also survived by her 5 grandchildren, Will Donaldson, and wife Kacy, Grant Donaldson, and wife Erin, Michelle Davis, and husband R.T., Mary Claire McGinnis and Connell McGinnis; and her 5 great-grandchildren, Ryder Donaldson, Wyatt Donaldson, Jett Donaldson, Madilyn Hicks and Maggie Hicks. 3
