My Room Children’s Cancer Charity is set for a major financial boost after the third annual Home

A note from our General Manager
This year marked Satterley’s 40th anniversary. For four decades, Satterley has prided itself on
building strong and harmonious communities.
While for obvious reasons we couldn’t quite celebrate as we were hoping to in 2020, we still took
enormous satisfaction in the community spirit that marked Australia’s response to the pandemic.
COVID-19 has affected communities and businesses, which of course means it has affected economies.
Many commentators early in the year predicted that property prices would fall dramatically as the full
effects of the health response kicked in, but we are glad to see that simply hasn’t happened.
In Melbourne, there was a slight dip in median house prices for the September quarter, but this was during
a period when nobody was allowed to physically inspect homes. If you compare current house prices in
Melbourne to this time last year, they are in fact 7.4 percent higher (Real Estate Institute of Victoria October
2020), showing that growth has been steady.
And thanks to the way Australians have handled the crisis – and the position we’re now in compared with many other parts of
the world – we are hoping to see that market resilience continue into 2021. That should be significantly assisted by the recent
government announcements that stamp duty will be reduced by as much as 50 percent for newly built or off-the-plan homes
valued at up to $1 million until 30 June 2021, and also that the HomeBuilder grant will be extended to offer $15,000 for new
build contracts signed between the 1st of January and the 31st of March 2021.
Speaking of next year, I’d like to wish you and your family a happy new year and a wonderful Christmas period. Thank you so
much for your kindness, your patience and your resolve in 2020.
Jack Hoffmann, General Manager, Victoria and Queensland

Virtually Together keeps
community spirit alive
Sometimes “staying apart to stay together” during 2020
was easier said than done. While we were sad that we didn’t
have as many in-person community events this year as
we’d have liked, we were delighted to see that our Virtually
Together program kept the community spirit alive.
In addition to teddy bear hunts, footpath chalk art, stay-at-
home movie nights, kindness cards and Spoonvilles, two
of the big highlights of the program were the kite flying
extravaganza and our Virtual Halloween celebration.
Thanks for the virtual love Arcadia…

How Jess and Josh made
their property dream come
true during lockdown
As Victorians breathe a sigh of relief and enter summer with significantly eased restrictions, it’s easy to
look back on our winter (and spring) lockdown as a time when everyone put their lives on hold.
That wasn’t the case for everybody, however. In fact, some
people soldiered on under these difficult circumstances and
turned their dream of home ownership into a reality. We
spoke with two of them.
Josh and Jess have known they wanted to build their own
home for a long while. In fact, for years they’ve known
exactly which one: the four-bedroom, two-storey Ashbury
30 by Henley. Only in 2020, though, did they narrow down
their search for the ideal block of land to build on. And, just
as they settled on Arcadia as their preferred community,
COVID-19 struck.
They had had the opportunity to visit the Satterley estate
before the restrictions tightened, but by the time they were
ready to buy, in-person meetings were off the cards.
“We had been lucky to visit both Arcadia and Henley prior to
