Window Decorating Where: Marketplace at Doan When: Friday Oct. 5th at 11:00 AM – Wednesday Oct. 10th at 3:00 PM Judging Time: To be announced Objective: To design the most creative window art incorporating the Homecoming Theme, SVSU, and the Football game. Theme: The Greatest Show on Earth: Circus General Instructions: - Student teams/organizations will be assigned a window located in front of Marketplace at Doan. Window assignments will be given at the Homecoming Informational Meetings - Windows must be cleaned by their respective team/organizations by Sunday, October 14. If not cleaned, the organization’s on-campus account will be fined $50. - The team or organization will be responsible for all expenses on window decorating - Please incorporate your organization’s name somewhere on the window. - Only WATER-BASED paint may be used for this event. Scoring: A panel of judges selected by the Office of Student - Participation = 50 points Life will be making final decisions on winning - 1st Place = 100 points window designs. Judging will be based on: - 2nd Place = 75 points • Use of Theme - 3rd Place = 50 points • Originality - 4th Place = 25 points • Artistic Merit • Overall Appearance 4
Homecoming KICK-Off Party Where: President's Courtyard (Rain Backup TSAR) When: Sunday, Oct. 7th from 6:00 – 8:00 PM Check In: 5:30 PM Start Time: 6:00 PM Court: must arrive by 5:00 PM Objective: RSOs will show their Red Pride by showing out for a Kick-Off Party being held in the President's Courtyard. The objective will be to create a collaborative, inclusive, and spirited atmosphere that demonstrates what Red Pride at SVSU is all about. Each participating RSO will have a shout-out opportunity to represent their organization and gain their participation points for the event. Additionally, the 2018 Homecoming Court will be introduced. General Instructions: - RSOs must have someone in attendance and participate in the shout-out to receiving participation points Scoring: - Participation = 50 points Activities 1. Roving Entertainers a. Juggling b. Fire Performance c. Stilt walking d. Unicycling e. Plate spinning 2. Free food a. Popcorn, snow cones, etc. 3. RSO Shout-out 5
Macho Volleyball Where: Campus Recreation Courts 1,2, and 3 When: Monday, October 8th Check-In: 6:30pm Start Time: 7:00pm Objective: Be the last team standing in the bracket! Homecoming Rules: - Double Elimination - Must have a female coach - Each team’s coach will need to check-in their team with all players present - Each team will need to submit a written roster of the 6 male participants representing their organization. - Rules will be covered at 6:30 p.m., failure to check-in will result in immediate disqualification. - Please see Volleyball Rules provided below. - Players will need their Student ID YOU MUST SIGN UP YOUR TEAM Macho Volleyball Team Registration 1. Visit svsu.edu/recreation and select the Intramural Sports hot-key 2. On the right-hand side, select the “register now” tab 3. Sign in using your SVSU username and password 4. Select the Intramurals Hot-Key (Pictured with a whistle) and then select the IMLeagues logo 5. Once on the IMLeagues site, select the Saginaw Valley State University tab in the upper left hand corner 6. In the running list of sports, select the “macho volleyball” or “powderpuff flag football” league 7. Select create team and enter your information. Please make sure you list your RSO as the team name 8. Once team is created, you may select your roster and ask your players to join your team (it will send them an email) 9. Players may also go onto IMLeagues and request to join your team. Questions? Lip Sync Contest Where: Hamilton Gym (Ryder Center) When: Tuesday, October 9th Check-In: 8pm Start Time: 9pm Objective: Create a lip-synced musical act featuring this year's Homecoming theme; The Greatest Show on Earth: Circus. General Instructions: - At least 30 seconds of circus music must be incorporated into the lip-sync routine - Mashups are accepted but cannot be longer than 4 minutes long. - Any act deemed distasteful or offensive will be disqualified. This includes, but is not limited to, acts with pervasive drug/alcohol references, explicit sexual acts, acts that demean or poke fun at a certain group of people or mention another student organization. - Any act that does not check in by 8:15 PM (prompt) will be immediately disqualified. - Music must be saved to a jump drive and provided to the DJ upon check-in Scoring: - Participation = 50 points - 1st Place = 100 points - 2nd Place = 75 points - 3rd Place = 50 points - 4th Place = 25 points Judges will score on the following criteria: • Entertainment Factor • Homecoming Spirit (RED PRIDE) • Sufficient use of circus music (30 seconds) • Creativity • King/Queen Candidate in performance wearing sash (10 pts.) 7
Quiz Bowl What: General trivia competition Where: Thompson Student Activities Room When: Wednesday, October 10 Check-In: 9:00 PM Event Time: 9:30 PM Objective: Be the last trivia team standing! General Instructions: - Teams will check in with ALL of their participating members present. Teams that are not checked in by 9:15 will be automatically dis qualified - Teams will have 20 seconds to write their answers on a white board and present them when time is up. Each correct answer will be worth 100 points - There will be three rounds of questions with each round being structured differently o Round 1: 25 questions to all teams. Top 4 scoring teams advance to Round 2 o Round 2: 15 questions to the Top 4 teams. Top 2 scoring teams advance to Round 3 o Round 3: Each team will have 2:00 minutes to answer as many questions as they can. The higher scoring team will win the Quiz Bowl (Lightening Round) Quiz Bowl Rules: - Each team must have 2-5 participants in order to compete. Exceptions may be considered - Lightening rounds will determine any/all ties! - Prior to each question, a wheel will be spun to determine the category of the question o If the wheel lands on the "2X" panel, the wheel will be spun again and the following question will be worth double points (200). - Any type of cheating during the event can result in a deduction of 50 Homecoming points and immediate disqualification from the event. Scoring: - Participation = 50 points - 1st Place = 100 points - 2nd Place = 75 points - 3rd Place = 50 points - 4th Place = 25 points 8
Powder Puff Football Where: Intramural Fields When: Thursday, October 11th Check-In: 3:00 PM Start Time: 4:00 PM Objective: Be the last team standing in the bracket! Homecoming Rules: - At check-in, each participant will need to show their SVSU student ID - Each team will need to submit a written roster of the 5-12 female participants representing their organization. (Max of 7 on field at a time) - Rules will be covered at 3:00 p.m., failure to check-in will result in immediate disqualification. - Must have a male coach - If weather is unfavorable before the start of the game, participation points will be awarded to those organizations that check-in by 3:00 p.m. YOU MUST SIGN UP YOUR TEAM Powderpuff Team Registration - 1. At - 1st Place = 100 points the first sight of lighting games will be - 2nd Place = 75 points suspended for 5 minutes. If lighting has not - 3rd Place = 50 points ceased after those five minutes, games will be - 4th Place = 25 points counted as they stand. At that time the Intramural Staff will remove everyone from the field. 9
ABC12 Spirit Competition Where: O’Neill Arena When: Friday, October 12th Check-In: 5:00am Food Deadline: Friday Oct 12th Noon Objective: Show our RED PRIDE to the ABC12 viewers while also giving back to our community by donating to a local food bank! General Instructions: - Donate at least 20lbs of non-perishable foods. Donations can be dropped off at any time during Homecoming Week (drop off deadline noon on Friday, Oct. 12th ) - Represent your organization with at least 5 members at the live coverage event on Friday morning. - Wear your best RED PRIDE apparel Scoring: Participation = 50 points (5 members per organization needed to receive points) -Swipe in before and after event Friday, Oct 12th 5:00 AM ABC12 Event. Food Donated = 50 points (20lbs of nonperishable foods) 10
Instagram Challenge "Capture your Homecoming Experience!" Theme: The Greatest Show on Earth: Circus Where: Instagram #SVHomecoming18 When: No later than Thursday, October 11 at 10:00 PM Objective: Throughout Homecoming week 2018, capture all the fun, excitement, and spirit of your RSO on Instagram. Your Instagram posts will be a great compilation of your efforts during Homecoming week and will showcase your RED PRIDE! General Instructions: - Document your Homecoming week on Instagram with #SVHomecoming18, #(RSO name), and #SVSU - Photos should include your RSO at Homecoming events, your favorite location(s) on campus, campus landmarks, and any other snapshots you want documented as part of Homecoming 2018! Details: - Photos may be repurposed by the Office of Student Life (for promotional materials and/or use at the Student Life Awards Ceremony) and/or other SVSU departments (for promotional purposes). Scoring: - Participation = 50 points - 1st Place = 100 points - 2nd Place = 75 points - 3rd Place = 50 points - 4th Place = 25 points Judges will score on the following criteria: • Use of Homecoming theme • Photo quality • Creativity 11
Homecoming Parade Theme: The Greatest Show on Earth: Circus Where: Lot J-2 When: Saturday, October 13th Check-In: 11:00 AM Start Time: 11:30 AM Rules: Rules for floats, displays, banners, or entertainment entries: - All parade entries must be related to the theme: The Greatest Show on Earth: Circus - Floats must be pulled by motor vehicle (No animals). - Signs should be placed on both sides of each unit to denote the name of the group. - Parade units will receive their unit number once they have checked at the Student Life tent and be expected to fall in line where placed by parade coordinator. - All parade units should maintain an equal distance during the parade route. Proper spacing of all units is important for the consistency of the parade. - Corporate sponsorship MAY NOT include alcohol/tobacco products or other drugs. - Parade units must select ONE person to be their Parade Team Leader; this person will be the contact person for your parade unit during the parade. This person’s contact information must be given at the Homecoming Informational Meeting. - The primary job of the Parade Team Leader is to ensure that your unit does not travel too quickly or slowly during the parade and to ensure that the parade unit is parked in the appropriate spot at the conclusion of the parade route. Limitations on participation in the Homecoming Parade: - Parade organizers have the right to pull from the parade any stalled vehicles or groups that cannot keep up with the pace of the parade. - Parade organizers have the right to have groups or individuals removed from the SVSU parade for exhibiting bad taste, intoxication, using profanity or objectionable language.
