YEAR 12 MUSIC SOIREE The Brenton Langbein Theatre was transformed into an intimate soiree setting on the evening of Thursday the 12th of September, with excited guests seated at tables around the stage. The guests had gathered for an evening of entertainment from the Faith Year 12 music cohort. The Year 12 students were both excited and filled with nervous anticipation. For many it was a bittersweet feeling to be performing solo pieces for possibly the last time during their high school experience. Many of the performances were to be recorded and assessed for their Music Performance, Music Studies and Music Exploration subjects respectively. Opening the evening in style was the Faith Senior Choir, made up of students from Years 10 to Year 12. They served up a variety of genres from classical to musical theatre all the way to an enchanting four-part arrangement of The Eurythmics’ ‘Sweet Dreams’. The Year 12 soloist performances included vocal, clarinet, guitar and bass pieces; some even composed by the performers themselves. The students demonstrated their professionalism, creativity and story telling abilities through a captivating and well-polished show met with the audience’s praise. Whilst the show exhibited students’ individual achievements, it was a hugely collaborative effort amongst peers, staff and accompanists, once again illustrating the scope of professional skills acquired by these senior students over their music journey. The Faith Music Learning Area looks forward to following the continuation of this journey for many of its Year 12 students, and wishes to congratulate them and their many supporters on a hugely successful show. ACROSS THE CAMPUS IMAGE OF CHILD ART EXHIBITION On the evening of Friday 20th September our ELC & Junior Campus was blessed with a wonderful turn out for our school community to share the enjoyment of the children’s Image of Child’ Art Exhibition. Families and friends thoroughly enjoyed the positive atmosphere and strong sense of community as they took the exhibition Kirsten Schiller, with daughters Olivia and Matilda. in, read artist’s reflections and participated in the various live collaborative art activities. The artworks on display included works on paper to clay and sculptural works. This variety of mediums was an excellent example of the languages we acknowledge at our ELC & Junior School for our children to choose from and express themselves with. Local artist (and parent) Janelle Amos – Self Pollinate – shared her skills and knowledge leading our community in a collaborative nature mandala. The large scale mandala was constructed with ephemeral and organic pieces which Junior students sourced from the Bush Block in the weeks and days prior. The mandala was explained Odette Brown in Foundation poses with her artwork for as, “A celebration of our children, our school, our father David. wonderful Barossa setting and their journey within our community.” In addition, there were two fun collaborative art activities for adults and children to enjoy. Families were invited to add to the ‘weaving gate’ or pick up a brush and paint at an easel. Our Parents and Friends and the families of Year 5/6 Timms class kindly supported enjoyment of the event with drinks, sausages and baked goods on sale. I took this opportunity in the hopes of being able to learn more about it and if it would be the right path for me. On the day, we were involved in activities that got us to critically think about why crime occurs and what we can do to prevent it. An example of this is that we were given a task to analyse the graffiti vandalism happening around Adelaide and find ways to prevent it. Some of the ideas that we came up with was to use graffiti proof paint on buildings as it ensures that the spray paint will Sophie Brice and Tabrett Roocke at The Unviersity of not stick. This excursion was offered to support the students in Year 10 and 11 with subject selection and the Year 12 students in preparation for University applications for 2020. The students thoroughly enjoyed the day and were able to attend either 2 or 3 course sessions.
