The Hollandse Club organized a charity dinner on the 7th of September to raise funds and awareness for the foundation. The foundation’s founder, Chaim Fetter, and his wife, Martina Natratilova, visited and shared a heartbreaking presentation on the effects to the orphanage, the schools and the incredible work that they had been doing since 2005. Everybody present generously helped out to get the foundation back on their feet, but money was not all that they needed. As the children were living in make shift-tents, they needed tarps, medicine, clothes, toys and other things and these had to be there before the Monsoon season was due to start at the end of October. Fortunately, at the lucky draw during the ADB- DutchCham King’s Night 2018 celebrations, we were the lucky ones to win a stay at the Members Benefits partner Qunci Villas also on Lombok. We booked a four-night stay for the October break and looked for ways to help out where we could. We never thought about cancelling and ended up flying to Lombok for a holiday carrying 150 kilogram in emergency goods supported by some of other ADB-DutchCham members. We had a great time at the hotel that is located in Sengigi, a beautiful resort style hotel on the beach. The Italian chef makes sure breakfast, lunch and dinner are fantastic, and the attentive staff make sure you are pampered all the time. Nothing beats the sunset, at the pool with a cocktail in hand. We also spent time at the orphanage to see the reconstruction in person and hand over the goods for the children. The driver we hired had been without a job for two full months, as were some of the other people we met during our stay. The combination of a fun event (Kingsday) with a fundraiser and supportive members and the support from our Member’s Benefits partner, Qunci Villa’s, gave us the chance to give back. For you, we can only recommend that you do the same by visiting Lomok, because it sure is an amazing place to visit and they could use your support! The Peduli Anak Foundation still needs all your support, so donate generously via https://www.pedulianak.org/ • 7

fresh ways for SMEs to boost access to talent and skills. With salary budgets tightening time to explore fresh ways to secure access to talent In Singapore, SMEs are companies that employ fewer than 200 and skills demands changing people and has a turnover of less than SGD100 million. SMEs fast, securing access to talent account for 99% of all enterprises in Singapore and employ will remain a tough call for approximately 65% of the workforce1. Smaller SMEs often lose out organisations of all sizes, to the larger brand names in the competition for talent, as employees would prefer to build their portfolio with well-known especially for small and brands as well as have access to more resource and support from medium-sized enterprises their employer. (SMEs). SMEs function with very lean teams and have big goals to fulfil, so smart people who are highly adaptable and agile become an asset to the business. The 2017 Employer Brand Research commissioned by Randstad revealed that 37% of the local workforce prefer to work for large corporations and only 15% favour SMEs. With such niche talent needs and a very small pool of candidates to select from, it is critical for SMEs to have a robust and flexible human capital strategy that works in their favour. 14 human forward.
fresh ways for SMEs to ensure that you have an advantage in the competition for talent. 1. build your employer brand As an SME, you will need to promote your products and services to gain brand awareness and educate your audiences about what you do. The same goes for your employer brand. Your staff are the best ambassadors as they can speak about their journey with you, so encourage them to use their professional and social media networks to share more about what it’s like working for the company and why others should join. It is also critical that the viewpoints that your people share are authentic and objective, as exaggerated or false claims will cause harm to the employer brand which can be difficult to recover. 2. make the most of digital If you are a startup or a new SME that have just entered into the Singapore market, there’s a high possibility that you are already operating in a technology-driven business, so you would already know the many benefits of digital engagement. When your hiring activities are done online instead of face-to-face events such as job fairs, you can reach out to twice as many potential candidates. Exciting innovations such as artificial intelligence and gamification can provide a great and interactive way to identify and evaluate suitable candidates. 3. keep successful candidates close and people you don’t hire closer For every person who gets a job with your company, there are bound to be a number of others who missed out on the opportunity. Don’t just forget about them and delete them from your database. It’s important to keep them engaged as they become a pool of future In collaboration with recruits. ADB-DutchCham EVENTS Visit to Heerema’s next generation semi-submersible crane vessel: Sleipnir By Maarten van Wel Executive Director, ADB-DutchCham ... Photos by ADB-DutchCham ... On 13 September, the Maritime & Offshore Committee of ADB-DutchCham organised a visit to the largest crane vessel in the world, the SSCV Sleipnir. In 2013, Heerema Marine Contractors decided to enhance its fleet with this new heavy-lift vessel with increased capabilities. The Sleipnir is presently under construction at Sembcorp Marine’s Tuas Boulevard yards in Singapore and is expected to be fully ready to execute its first project in Q4 of 2019. Martijn Wijdeveld, Senior Project Manager and Kees Berkhout, Sub-contract Coordinator, gave a project presentation and a tour of the vessel. More information about SSCV Sleipnir Heerema Marine Contractors is currently developing the next generation semi-submersible crane vessel: SSCV Sleipnir. The Sleipnir is designed for worldwide offshore heavy lifting. It will be equipped with two cranes of 10,000 The dual cranes provide for heavy lifting capacity both metric tonnes lifting capacity each and a reinforced deck to install and remove jackets and topsides. Furthermore, area of 220 meters in length and 102 meters in width, which the cranes can be utilized for installation of foundations, will make it the largest crane vessel in the world. moorings and structures in deep water. The Sleipnir is self-propelled with a minimum service speed of 10 knots, station-keeping is by means of dynamic positioning (DP3) or mooring system. Sleipnir is designed with many ‘green’ features. Perhaps the most notable innovation is that the Sleipnir will be the world’s first offshore construction vessel to implement a dual-fuel system, allowing the vessel to use Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) for power generation. LNG is much cleaner than conventional fuels. ADB-DutchCham would like to thank Heerema for their hospitality and this opportunity to visit the Sleipnir while still under construction.• 21
