A large number of students and staff dressed up in a wide range of cultural attire ranging from kilts to thwab, dashiki to sarape. At break time the students enjoyed a cake sale with delights ranging from Eccles cakes to jalebi. These were sold and consumed at record speed whilst a group of invited dhol drummers added musical accompaniment to the festivities. At lunch time, Masala chips also added diversity to the usual Friday chip day! The day began with interform quizzes and challenges, followed by a final breakfast all together. After this the Senior Prefect Team presented an assembly with memories, videos, pictures and stories from their time at LHS before we all went out onto the quad for an afternoon tea party. It was a fantastic day. Our Year 13 pupils have been a real credit to the school, and it was so nice to wish them well as they now embark on study leave in preparation for their A-Level examinations. Junior Maths Challenge The results of the UKMT Junior Maths Challenge came through last week and we are very proud of Lindsay who is in Year 8 and has been invited to participate in the Junior Mathematical Olympiad on 14 June. Less than 0.5% of Junior Maths Challenge participants are invited to take part in the Olympiad, so Lindsay has done exceptionally well. Teentech Two groups of Year 9 Computing students are celebrating since they have made it through to the final stage of the Teentech competition. Teentech is a national competition where students from around the UK solve real life problems by creating innovative products which are then assessed by a panel of judges. We are proud of our students since only a few groups make it to the national Fiona Miles finals. Head
As the weather has been starting to warm up, we have been taking lots of our activities outside, working hard to provide an amazing variety of exciting experiences for the children at Nursery and of course we have many more activities planned over the coming weeks. Our younger members of the Foundation have been having lots of fun with water play in the garden, using colourful, fizzy bath bombs and having fun exploring animals they might find in the water, be it a pond or the sea. The children in Pathfinders have been conducting some science experiments over the past couple of weeks. In addition to their butterfly farms, they have created erupting volcanoes and used paint to create their own colourful explosions! The older children in Innovators have been focusing on the topic ‘people who help us’ rehearsing their skills as dentists and firefighters by dressing up in role- play costumes and using paintbrushes with water to wash away the fire as quickly as possible and practising cleaning teeth! During Mindfulness Week, the children in Pioneers embraced a positive mindset through all areas of their learning. The children enjoyed creative opportunities to express their feelings and emotions, such as cloud watching and yoga. The children have been incorporating this into discussions about their upcoming transitions to school - sharing their excitement, worries and everything else in between!
