The Use of Bureau of Meteorology Multi-Week and Seasonal Forecasts to Facilitate Improved Management Decisions in Queensland’s Vegetable Industry.
Ø Temperature is the major determinant of vegetable product quality (not rainfall). Ø Veggie work targeting two regions - Lockyer Valley and Granite Belt production areas. Ø Would a more accurate long lead time forecast enhance / change business planning, planting and marketing decisions ? Ø Document impacts / costs of temperature impacts on crop quality / yield (potential profitability). Ø Work funded by Qld Government $ Horticulture Innovation Australia not involved in this work.

Lots of historical climate data (numbers) but what industry needs is decision-ready information. Can access weather data for an official BoM weather station site. Industry can get a data file from BoM for a specific local site -- but complicated for average person to manipulate and get useful info.
DAF ClimateMon tool (still under development) A tool that can access temperature records from your nearest Australian Bureau of Meteorology (BoM)official weather station. How variable are temperatures over time ? Heat days above a temperature you pick. https://hort-science.shinyapps.io/ClimateMon/ DAF ClimateMon tool developed by DCAP Vegetable project team member Dr Neil White
