The spa-like master bath is a close second, especially when relax- ing after a stressful day. Did you decorate the entire house at one time, or over the years? The main rooms were decorated at one time, but the kid’s rooms have evolved over time. We did design the outdoor fireplace and outdoor kitchen. They are both situated to allow visibility from inside or out. Entertaining is quite fun and special with this setup. If you could do it all over again, would you change anything? We bought our house from Kannon Homes out of Boerne. They had just completed it a few months before we moved to Fair Oaks Ranch. ENGINEERING What did you love most about the house? Moving from PERMITTING SERVICE North Texas we realized we absolutely missed the Hill Country from our college days at UT. We started looking on the Internet and found a rescue dog at the San Angelo Municipal Animal Shelter. Your Hometown Property Management and Leasing Company Is there a story behind his name? When we found him, he did not have a name. Brian and the kids choose “Ranger” since he is a ranging dog, a protector – like a Texas Ranger. Does he have any special talents or quirks? He gets along with our chickens. We have only had him a short time, so we are still learning about him. He is very friendly and great with the kids. What do you like best about Ranger? His friendly and exploratory nature. Any funny stories? We do not have a lot of stories yet. But he loves to run with the kids and play chase. How spoiled is he? Ranger was seized as an abused dog along with many other animals. He was very thin at 67 pounds. He should weigh about 100. We have been spoiling him a bit with good food and he is gained 6 pounds so far. What else would you like to share about him? healthy living Deliciously Healthy Super Bowl Snacks By Shauna Osborne Let’s face it: Lots of us love Super Bowl Sun- Chili: Mmm, the ultimate cold-weather comfort day for one reason that has nothing to do food! Instead of a greasy, beefy chili, opt for with football: snacks! The slow-cooked lean turkey, or even go meat-free, cutting chili, the cheesy dips, the tangy wings… down on saturated fat and calories signifi- what’s not to like? Well, for one thing, cantly. Dips: Super Bowl party dips are, yes, scrumptious but often laden with fatty meats and dairy. As an alternative, make up a big batch of pico de gallo, hummus, and / or guaca- mole to go with your favorite healthy dippers (tortilla chips, pita, pretzels, cut-up veggies). If your heart’s set on a warm dip, try subbing out the sour cream or mayo in your recipes for lighter options (low-fat Greek yogurt, coconut milk, low-fat cream cheese). Wings: Wings are generally deep-fried, made up of mostly fat and skin, and chock full of cholesterol and sodium. But they don’t have to be junk food! Instead of frying, roast, grill, or bake them, and certainly skip the blue cheese dip, which is incredibly calorie-laden. If meat isn’t your jam, you can capture that bold, buffalo flavor without it by serving buffalo cauliflower bites, which are every bit as tasty and much lighter in carbs and calories. Pizza: It’s hardly Super Bowl Sunday without pizza, when, ac- cording to Domino’s, over 2 million pizzas are delivered to sports fans across the country. This year, skip the delivery and make your own healthier slices. Choose a thin, cauliflower, or whole- wheat crust to cut down on calories and carbs, and pile on the veggies and red sauce for added vitamins, fiber, and minerals. Cheese will add calcium and protein to your pie, but be mindful of how much and what kind you use. Happy game-watching and happy eating, football fans! 36 Fair Oaks Ranch Living • February 2021 February 2021 • Fair Oaks Ranch Living 37
