4 Make Coral Gables Count Every ten years the U.S. Census Bureau conducts a nationwide population count. Consider the growth of Coral Gables in the last ten years and where we will be ten years from now. Our growing City deserves proper representation and its share of federal funds. Make Coral Gables Count- Census 101 · Everyone Counts- To make Coral Gables Count, everyone in the household should be counted, regardless of relationship. This includes live-in staff of any kind. · Your Information is Private- The Census Bureau is bound by law to protect identifiable information about you, your home, and your business, even to law enforcement. · It’s about representation and funding- The US Census helps determine congressional representation and how hundreds of billions of federal funds are distributed. Your response will help your federal tax dollars stay in our community and ensure our local interests are properly represented. · Your Response is Required- The census is required by the US Constitution. If you do not respond, the US Census Bureau will follow up in person to collect your response. Participate in our democracy and Make Coral Gables Count! 6 City News Coral Gables is a Smart 50 Award Recipient The City of Coral Gables has been selected as a 2020 Smart 50 Award recipient by Smart Cities Connect, US Ignite, and the Smart Cities Connect Foundation. Coral Gables is among a selected list of global cities with municipal-scale Smart City projects that “exemplify innovation and concrete influence” in our community. Coral Gables Fire to Offer Telemedicine for Emergency Care This January, the Coral Gables Fire Department became the first fire rescue agency in Miami-Dade County to launch telemedicine capability in their rescue units. Developed by the Gordon Center for Simulation and Innovation in Medical Education at the University of Miami, this innovative program allows paramedics to consult directly to neurologists, or trauma surgeon when patients are experiencing life threatening emergencies via a secured video system. This technology enables emergency physicians, and interventionists from area hospitals like Baptist and the University of Miami, the ability to speak with and evaluate patients prior to arriving in the emergency room. This capability is expected to provide critically ill patients with fast access to the appropriate intervention and reduce time to care. Lobbyist Online Portal Now Available The City Clerk’s Office has launched a new online portal for Lobbyist Registration. The demands for lobbyist registration in our fast-growing City has increased expeditiously over the years. This new online portal allows registration, payment, tracking, withdrawal and submittal capabilities for all individuals who conduct lobbying activities with the City. All information is available online in order to enhance an accessible government that is also open and accountable to our citizens. Ways to Love Coral Gables There’s more than one reason to be grateful for living in Coral Gables. That’s why you should be part of our “Why I love Coral Gables” multimedia project by sharing your story about why this community holds a special place in your heart. To participate, visit the Public Input link on the City's Smart City Hub webpage. Here’s two other practical ways to love your City Beautiful: · Sign up for e-News, the official city of Coral Gables newsletter to receive free and important information directly from City Hall. · Give the gift of recreation: Buy a gift card redeemable at any of our park facilities for your friends or family.
