Live Arts At The Heart Of Your Community Spring 2020 Season We are delighted to present our selection of shows and performances available for booking for Spring 2020, featuring the very best of touring theatre, music, storytelling, puppetry and children’s shows. This season we have five delightful theatre productions on offer. Those of you who enjoyed last year’s show by Time and Again Theatre (Greyhounds) will be pleased to see they are back with their new show, Clouds. Owdyado Theatre bring their hilariously dark Twisted Tales of the very unexpected to your door and Notnow Collective invite you to an evening of family and cultural traditions, whilst baking Croatian biscuits on stage, in their new play Pepper and Honey. We also have two productions suitable for families, with children 6/7years plus. Created by Robert and David Goodale and a smash hit in the West End in 2014, Jeeves and Wooster in Perfect Nonsense is presented by Chipping Norton and Barn Theatre. And Bright Buoy Productions present their sell-out Brighton Fringe show Blue Planet III, addressing ecological issues in their hilarious comic style. For younger children we have two shows on the Menu. Long Nose Puppets (Penguin and Out Of The Hat) are back – this time with their ever popular show Arthur’s Dream Boat. And What’s Coming Out Of The Box present their brand new show Bonhomme, with lots of lovely ways to encourage goodness, kindness and a sense of community in young children. Music acts in this spring Menu include The People’s String Foundation, who will bring a ‘virtual 32-piece orchestra’ to your venue and present their multimedia show Res Publica, using music, puppetry, cinematography and animation. We also have rising UK star Sunjay, a guitarist and vocalist whose style sits naturally between folk and blues. And The Carrivick Sisters, twins from South Devon, who perform bluegrass and folk, with stunning harmonies and multi-instrumental virtuosity. Some of the productions and artists featured in this Menu are touring the country for a limited period during 2020 and the dates you see in this Menu are only on reserve for Applause promoters for a few weeks. In these cases we need to secure a run of dates in the Kent and Sussex region to make it financially viable for the companies to travel and stay in the south east region for a few nights. Therefore, please send us your booking requests as soon as possible so that we can secure dates with the companies. The booking period for Spring shows runs from October to March and through the season itself, if we still have enough funds to subsidise more shows. We will begin to schedule bookings sometime in the middle of the booking period once we have a collection of requests to work with. If we have received your preferences by that time it is more likely we will be able to offer you your preferred show and date. If you are new to rural touring and would like to receive additional information and guidelines please email, telephone or write to us using the details below. A quick reminder that the full price for each show is paid by Applause to the performing Company. Promoters pay Applause the Minimum Fee, plus 40% of ticket sales in excess of the Minimum Fee. Recommended ticket prices are given on each Menu sheet as a guideline. Booking is easy - when you have made your choices please send us an email or telephone the office to express your interest in a performance. We hope you enjoy browsing the wide variety of performances on offer within this Menu and we look forward to receiving your requests! Live Arts At The Heart Of Your Community Spring 2020 Season Owdyado Theatre Company: Twisted Tales II Back by popular demand Twisted Tales II is a brand new show by ‘Owdyado Theatre Company touring in 2020. Following on from the huge success of Twisted Tales, which toured across the country in 2018 and 2019, this show is a new trilogy of darkly comic ‘tales of the unexpected.’ Twisted Tales II brings you three more surprising stories of the macabre and mysterious: get ready for an anarchic night of hilariously dark theatre! REALLY pleased ... The tales really WERE ‘Twisted’, and the laughs kept on coming. Thank you for a MOST enjoyable evening of ‘proper’ entertainment Audience member from The Broadbent Theatre Loved it! A hint of League of Gentlemen and a touch of Killing Eve. Live Arts At The Heart Of Your Community Spring 2020 Season The Theatre Chipping Norton and Barn Theatre present: Jeeves and Wooster in Perfect Nonsense Take your seats with caution! Man-about-town Bertie Wooster has hired the theatre for the night to present his one-man show detailing a recent and rather spectacular series of misadventures. The show will climax in his miraculous escape from unwanted matrimony (in no small part thanks to his trusty butler Jeeves). The only trouble is Bertie hasn’t worked out who is going to play all the characters. Will it be a famous disaster? Will the scenery stay upright? Or will Jeeves step in and save the show? In this joyous and anarchic reimagining of the classic P.G. Wodehouse characters, three actors hurl themselves from character to character as they race to tell the story of Bertie’s own farcical adventures. Jeeves and Wooster in Perfect Nonsense was created by Robert and David Goodale, adapted primarily from P.G. Woodhouse’ The Code ot the Woosters. After hugely successful runs in the West End, it won the Olivier Award for Best New Comedy. Praise for other touring work produced by The Theatre Chipping Norton:- Puts larger, more important producers to shame with this demonstration of what can be achieved with what I imagine to be limited funds and resources. It is a pity more better placed regional theatres are not producing work of this quality. **** Stage Talk Magazine, Stones In His Pockets Tour 2016 Promoter Information AVAILABLE DATES TARGET AUDIENCE SHOW DURATION MIN REC. Live Arts At The Heart Of Your Community Spring 2020 Season Time and Again Theatre Company: Clouds The year is 1913 and women are rising up... ‘They just see me as a ready-made poster girl. If woman can fly a machine, she can cast a vote!’ Amidst the flock of pioneers fighting to rule the skies, Winifred (Freddie) Baxter is determined to become the first Englishwoman to enter an air race and fly right around the country! In the open fields of Moorhanger Grange, Freddie learns to take to the skies during Britain’s last glorious summer, weathering the chaos of friends and family, the suffragette movement, a glorious garden party and far too much nephology – the study of clouds. Winner of the Oldham Coliseum Pick of the Fringe award, Clouds is the second play by new, young writer, Laura Crow, combining the suffocating society of pre-war Britain with a touch of comedy, early feminism and pure vintage flair! Clouds will truly keep you coming back time and again ★★★★ Theatre Weekly A wonderfully atmospheric play, Clouds is an interesting snapshot – and reminder – of the battles that women fought, indeed are still fighting, in having a fair and equal world ★★★★ Edinburgh Guide Clouds is a charming, important and engaging play [...] an immersive, delightful experience, with clever writing and fine acting, creating a powerful piece of theatre ★★★★ Ed Fringe Review Roaringly successful ★★★★ North West End Promoter Information AVAILABLE DATES TARGET AUDIENCE SHOW DURATION MIN REC. Live Arts At The Heart Of Your Community Spring 2020 Season Notnow Collective: Pepper and Honey There are two types of people. The ones who move away. And the ones who stay and wait... Pepper and Honey is a new play about two women questioning the meaning of home. The play is timed to perfection in order to deliver a perfect Croatian pepper biscuit, baked live in front of, and with the help of, the audience. The live baking process is intertwined with a story of what it is like to settle in a different country, leaving and returning and making and breaking family traditions. Pepper and Honey will appeal to audiences’ senses as well as treating them to a moving and thought- provoking story, with a warm, fun and inclusive atmosphere. ‘Home is where it smells of pepper and honey’ Exquisitely acted and faultless production. Perfect for rural touring - David Lane, Rural touring promoter We as an audience are not simply watching a play, we are being invited into someone’s home and life. Live Arts At The Heart Of Your Community Spring 2020 Season Long Nose Puppets: Arthur’s Dream Boat Based on the book by Polly Dunbar, with original music by Tom Gray, Arthur’s Dream Boat is a story about a little boy who has a dream. One night, Arthur has an amazing dream about a beautiful pink and green boat with a stripy mast. He can't wait to tell everyone about it but no one (not even his dog!) is interested. With talents way beyond his years, Derby-born blues-folk troubadour Sunjay has been hailed for his exquisite and seemingly effortless guitar mastery and graceful bass voice, with a mature stage presence and captivating stories to tell. Live Arts At The Heart Of Your Community Spring 2020 Season What’s Coming Out Of The Box: Bonhomme Bonhomme is a family show built with mud and powered by thoughts. It will leave you with dirty hands and a wondering mind. Based in a community garden, this new immersive and participatory show seamlessly blends story- telling, clay modelling, object theatre, live music and philosophy for children. What’s Coming out of the Box firmly believes that children’s theatre should not shy away from big juicy topics. The long-term vision of the Company is to contribute to making the world a better place through the arts. Children are natural philosophers and start to question the world around them very early on. We enjoy asking big questions to small people. What makes a good human? This is the philosophical question we Capacity: 40 Children, 60 adults examine in Bonhomme with children aged 5- Up to two shows (or show and w/shop) per day 8, using the Golem myth for loose inspiration.
