What is FOGO FOGO is the weekly collection and processing of food scraps, organic garden material, and other compostable items. These will be turned into compost, instead of valuable food waste being taken to landfill.
GO bin becomes FOGO bin Once FOGO starts, you can place food organics and other compostable items into your lime-green lid kerbside bin, along with your garden waste.
Bin sizes and collection day • Same bin sizes – 240L capacity for each of your three kerbside bins • Same collection day (day of the week)
When bins will be collected • FOGO bin (lime-green lid bin): weekly • General waste bin (red lid bin): fortnightly • Recycling bin (yellow lid bin): fortnightly. The general waste bin and recycling bin will be collected fortnightly on alternate weeks:
State Government Direction The Waste Authority’s Waste Avoidance and Resource Recovery Strategy 2030 sets targets for recovery of municipal solid waste (MSW) in the Perth and Peel regions: • 2020 – Increase MSW material recovery to 65% • 2025 – Increase MSW material recovery to 67% • 2030 – Increase MSW material recovery to 70%

Who will get the FOGO service? When will FOGO start? • We will start delivering kitchen caddies to each household during March. • Shortly after you receive your caddy, the collection frequency of your bins will change. • Information will be provided in the caddy to let you know when to start putting your FOGO bin out weekly.
Using your kitchen caddy
Compostable liners only • Your caddy will come with two rolls of compostable liners – enough for a year. • The City will continue to provide an allocation of liners for residents. • You can also purchase them from some supermarkets and hardware stores. • Use only caddy liners that are certified compostable under Australian standards.
What goes in the FOGO bin? Place these items in your FOGO bin All food Vegetable and fruit scraps organics Meat and bones including: Seafood Eggshells Teabags and coffee grinds Dairy products Take away food (no containers). Garden Grass clippings waste: Prunings, cuttings, trimmings Twigs and sticks Palm fronds Weeds. Other Animal droppings compostable Kitty litter items, Hair including: Paper products with food oil on them (e.g. pizza boxes) Tissues, paper towel and shredded paper.
What doesn’t go in the FOGO bin? Do not place these items in your FOGO bin No products you currently put in your yellow lid recycling bin No plastic bags (bread bags, shopping bags or garbage bags) No plastic packaging (bubble wrap) No nappies (including both disposable and cloth nappies) No personal hygiene products No treated and painted timber No building products No metals No glass No plastic plant pots, garden hoses, seedling trays or garden tools - the only 'garden products' that can go in are things grown in the garden (green waste/garden organics) No textiles (e.g. old clothing or cloth nappies).
What goes in the Recycling bin? Place these items in your yellow lid recycling bin Glass bottles and jars Paper - not shredded (including newspaper and magazines) Cardboard - flattened Plastic bottles and containers Steel and aluminium cans.

DO NOT place these items in your yellow lid recycling bin No aerosol cans or gas bottles No batteries or electronic items No clothing or textiles No materials in plastic bags No nappies, hygiene or sanitary products No soft plastics (e.g. plastic bags and wrappers) No ropes, cables or hose No UHT cartons (e.g. long-life milk, soy milk).

What doesn’t go in any kerbside bin? • Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) can contain chemicals or substances harmful to people and the environment. • These items cannot be placed in any of your kerbside bins and must instead be taken to an appropriate disposal facility. • Visit the City’s website for details of where you can drop off these items.
Baywaste Transfer Station 271 Collier Road, Bayswater Opening hours: Monday to Friday: 7.30am - 4pm Saturday and Sunday: 10am - 4pm • All general household waste is accepted including all batteries. • No asbestos or Household Hazardous Waste (except oil and batteries). • Bayswater residents only may drop off refrigerators that are not degassed (proof of residency required). • Certain types of electronic waste can be disposed of free of charge.
Recycling Batteries, Globes and Mobile Phones • Household batteries and fluorescent light tubes contain non-renewable and potentially harmful materials making them unsafe to place in your everyday rubbish bin. • Mobile phones have many useful recyclable components. • Residents can dispose of these products safely at one of eight recycling stations around the City. • Please visit the City’s website for details of what can be dropped off at each location.
Recycling Soft Plastics • Plastic bags cannot go in your recycling bin, as they become entangled in the machinery at the material recovery facility. • However, plastic bags and other soft plastic items can be taken to major supermarkets for recycling. • Look for the REDcycle collection bin at the front of the store. • To find your closest REDcycle collection point visit www.REDcycle.net.au
Recycling Clothing • Clothing and other good quality household items that are not stained, damaged or broken can be donated to charity shops. • “If you wouldn’t give it to a mate, don’t donate” • Visit giv.org.au to find a charity drop-off point near you. • If the charity bin is full, please don’t dump unwanted items next to the bin. This illegal dumping costs charities thousands every year, to lawfully dispose of the dumped items.
