Translate the following sentences
1.  E’ vietato fumare in classe
2.  Oggi è mercoledì. Di solito vado al cinema il mercoledì
    pomeriggio.
3. Può parlare lentamente? Non riesco a capire cosa dice.
4. Mi lavo i denti tre volte al giorno.
5. Alle 10.30 di solito vado a fare la spesa (go shopping). Non esco
    mai il pomeriggio.
6. Può confermarmi la prenotazione per e-mail? Si, certamente.
7. Sai andare a cavallo? Si, ma non lo faccio spesso.
8. Trasforma/Rendi le frasi alla forma negativa. Poi ascolta e
    controlla.
9. Non vado mai a letto prima di mezzanotte il Sabato.
10. Io non so nuotare ma so giocare a tennis.
11. Non spegnere la luce per favore.

Translate the following sentences - Correction
1.  No smoking in the classroom./ Smoking is forbidden in the
    classroom.
2. Today is Wednesday. I usually go to the cinema on Wednesday
    afternoon.
3. Can you speak slowly? I can’t understand what you say.
4. I brush my teeth three times a day.
5. At 10.30 I usually go shopping. I never go out in the afternoon.
6. Can you confirm my booking by e-mail? Yes, certainly.
7. Can you ride a horse? Yes, but I don’t often do it.
8. Make the sentences negative. Then listen and check.
9. I never go to bed before midnight on Saturday.
10. I can’t swim but I can play tennis.
11. Don’t switch/turn off the light, please.
12. How often do you come to Unitre? I come every day.
The ing-form or gerund
La “ing-form” si ottiene aggiungendo –ing alla forma base del verbo (o infinito
 senza to), ma in alcuni casi ci sono variazioni ortografiche.
• Regola generale                                Ex. do       > doing
• verbi terminanti in –e, perdono la –e           Ex. arrive > arriving
                                                 but     see > seeing
• verbi monosillabi che terminano con consonante preceduta da vocale,
    raddoppiano la consonante.                    Ex. stop > stopping
                                                       run > running
• verbi bisillabi che terminano con consonante preceduta da vocale,
    raddoppiano la consonante                   Ex. begin > beginning
                                                      prefer > preferring
                                                      travel > travelling
• Verbi in –y, mantengono –y e aggiungono –ing
                                                 Ex. study > studying
                                                      play > playing
Use
La ing-form si usa:
• nelle forme verbali progressive , per esempio the Present Continuous
    tense
• con funzione di aggettivo > interesting, exciting, boring, etc.
                                   Ex - It’s an interesting film.
                                          Tomatoes are disgusting
• con funzione di sostantivo , sia come soggetto o oggetto di un verbo –
                                   Ex - Smoking is dangerous for your health.
                                         Fumare è dannoso per la salute
                                         John loves teaching
                                         John ama insegnare
• nelle proibizioni (di solito nei cartelli)
                                   Ex - No smoking - E’ vietato fumare
                                           No fishing - E’ vietato pescare

subject + negative form of simple present of to be + ing-form of the main verb
Interrogative form and short answers

         simple present of to be + subject + ing-form of the main verb
Nota: ricordo che le short answers positive non vanno mai contratte

Pronunciation : la n-nasale
La “n” nasale non si trova mai all’inizio di una parola, ma alla fine delle parole o tra
due vocali. La forma –ing si esprime con la n nasale, ma tale suono si trova anche in
 altre parole.
