Welcome to Stockton Learning and Skills Service The last year has been challenging for many people but we are here to support you whether you want to learn a new skill, meet new people, get a new job, improve your health and wellbeing, start volunteering or set up your own business. Whatever your situation we have a range of courses which will help you. Safe Learning Although we have had to temporarily close our doors, many of our learners have continued with their studies online in new and innovative ways. These courses have been so successful that we are increasing the range of our online offer. We are also adapting some of the courses that would traditionally be delivered in the classroom to include some distance learning that you can do at a place and time convenient for you. You will see within this guide that all of our courses include ‘remote learning’, this means that we will support you to work remotely during these national restrictions. You will be fully supported to complete your learning programme and achieve any qualifications which you may have already started. We are committed to offering a safe learning environment for our learners and staff so you can be reassured that our learning venues when opened will meet government and health and safety requirements. Rated as a good provider by Ofsted 2018. 2 | www.slss.ac.uk

Learners are also encouraged to volunteer with local organisations to practice their skills and gain hands on experience. Roula said: “Our tutor Alison encouraged us to volunteer to help grow our confidence and skills. She told us about a volunteer opportunity at a charity called Happy Baby Community Support which works with isolated individuals. I took up the opportunity to volunteer and I was able to use my skills and knowledge in real life situations.” Roula now lives in London and works as a Volunteer Coordinator at Happy Baby Community. She added: “The Community Interpreting course really gave me a platform to be able to use my language skills to help people in the Community and I now have a job that I love.” 4 | www.slss.ac.uk www.stockton.gov.uk/slss
