Our weekly camp programs deliver a full-day experience designed to meet the needs of each camper, based on their grade as of September 2018. Campers going into Kindergarten in September must register for the Kinder-Stars program. Campers going into Grade 1 have the option of Kinder-Stars or Junior programs. Our Junior programs are designed for campers going into Grades 1-4, whereas campers going into Grades 5-9 must register for Senior programs. Our LIT (Leaders-In-Training) program is available for campers going into grade 9-10. Multi-Sport & Specialty Programs Junior and Senior campers can choose from a variety of morning and afternoon programs to create a camp experience that is just for them. Our Multi-Sport option offers an active sports experience that features basketball, soccer, squash, volleyball, lacrosse, football, softball, ultimate Frisbee, ball hockey, and a variety of co-operative games. Our Specialty options allow campers to develop skills and explore new interests in a variety of areas including arts, science and technology, and sports. Our Specialty Programs are custom-designed to take full advantage of the phenomenal facilities and resources available at St. Andrew’s College. Depending on the week(s) that your child joins us, there is a different variety of Specialty Programs to choose from, thereby allowing you the flexibility to create a camp experience specific to your camper’s interests and abilities. Some specialties are only available for Junior or Senior campers. Please refer to the Junior and Senior Specialty Programs for more information about each specialty. Remember that Specialty Programs have varying capacities and tend to fill up quickly (see Junior and Senior Specialty Programs for session capacities). Space cannot be held or guaranteed. A completed registration form, including payment, is necessary to secure enrolment. In order to avoid disappointment, we suggest you register early. We encourage families to register using our ONLINE system to avoid delays in processing your application. The care and safety of our campers is our number one priority. With an increased need for candidates in high-tech jobs, S.T.E.M . programs are being implemented in schools, and our camp! These programs allow campers to collaborate with others through inquiry-based learning. Campers are encouraged to use higher-order thinking and logical reasoning in a modern learning environment. SAC Summer Camp offers a wide range of S.T.E.M. programs for Junior and Senior campers. Flight & Rocketry - Campers will explore the principles of flight with kites, gliders, hot air balloons, and rockets in a fun-filled week of flight and rocketry. (Capacity - 24) Available Weeks 2 & 5 Space Camp - With fun physics, crazy chemistry, bizarre biology, and campers’ imagination, space cadets will explore the possibility of going to Mars and beyond. This exciting and interactive program will amaze your future scientist. Blast off! (Capacity - 24) Available Week 4 Spybotics - An additional week has been added to our most popular specialty! Agent, your mission—should you choose to accept, they will be having lots of FUN! Using a laptop computer and a LEGO Spybotics kit, campers will build a spybot and journey into a world of secret missions. (Capacity - 12) Available Weeks 1 & 3 3D Design (NEW!) - Campers will participate in a workshop to learn how to design and prepare original objects for 3D printing. They will use a variety of CAD (computer-aided design) programs such as PrintShop, TinkerCad, Meshmixer, SketchUp and Fusion 360. Campers will be able to take home a 3D print of their design. (Capacity - 12) Available Weeks 1 & 3 3D Printing (NEW!) - Inquire about the W5 of 3D printing: What is 3D printing? Who is 3D printing for? Why print in 3D? Where and when can you use 3D printing? Campers will lear to operate a popular filament 3D printer, the MakerBot Replicator+. Campers will be able to take home a popular 3D print sourced from the Internet. (Capacity - 12) Available Weeks 2 & 3 3D Scanning (NEW!) - Explore the exciting world of 3D printing! Campers learn about the theory and practical aspects of a variety of desktop and handheld 3D scanners. Campers will be able to take home a 3D portrait of themselves. (Capacity - 12) Available Weeks 1 & 2 Coding - Explore the world of technology in our new coding specialty. Learn the basics behind reading, making and using codes. This specialty will teach a variety of coding skills using different tools and applications. Competitive Robotics - Robot Warriors are taking over SAC Camp! Join the new age of robotics design systems in this FULL DAY program. Take the next step in head-to-head skilled competitions with an award-winning teacher with over 10 years of robotics instruction! Campers will work in teams of two to engineer robots to compete in non- violent, head-to-head challenges. Each week promises to be different. (Capacity - 20) This FULL-DAY specialty is available Week 2 Flight & Rocketry - Senior campers will explore the principles of flight with rockets. From designing the perfect paper airplane to building a rocket, senior campers test the boundaries of aerodynamics in a fun week full of aviation and rocketry. (Capacity - 24) Available Week 3 Lego NXT - Using the MINDSTORMS NXT 2.0 LEGO system, this program is designed to provide the novice participant with an introduction to the world of computer-controlled robots. Campers will build, learn to program, and tackle challenges. What would robotics be without a grand robotic battle finale! (Capacity - 20) Available Weeks 2 & 4 Rocketry - Blast off this summer in the Rocketry program! Campers will explore the world of rocketry by learning about rocket principles and building their very own one-metre high rocket! (Capacity - 20) Available Week 1 Space Camp - Destination Mars! Join us on the SAC Camp Spaceship as we journey to Mars! We'll need to brush up on our astronomy, astrophysics, astrobiology, astrochemistry, and rocket science if we are to be successful. A fun-filled week of stimulation, simulation, and cool experiments. Don't forget to pack your toothbrush! (Capacity - 20) Available Week 5 Our Arts Programs include theatre, music, dance, visual arts, batons & ropes, and photography! The specialties programs offer campers a chance to develop a sense of creativity and explore their artistic abilities. The arts provide a safe learning environment for campers to experiment, imagine, and create with their fellow group members. Batons & Ropes - Campers will have the opportunity to learn the basic artistic skills of baton twirling, ribbons, and jump rope. Campers will create mini routines, demonstrating their new skills and talents, which will be performed in the Specialty Showcase at the end of the week. (Capacity - 20) Available Week 5 Cooking - At the Superstore Cooking School (off-site), campers will have the chance to whip up some tasty dishes (and eat them, too!). There is a new meal or dessert to make every day. Bring home the recipes to create amazing food for friends and family. Dance - Campers will be introduced to a variety of modern dance techniques. Instructors will support campers as they progress from learning basic dance skills to choreographing their very own routines. Campers will have the opportunity to share their routines with family and friends in our Specialty Showcase at the end of the week. (Capacity - 20) Available Weeks 2 & 4 Theatre - SAC’s Wirth Theatre is home to our much loved Theatre Program. Campers will use their imaginations to create unique versions of famous tales as they bring them to life on stage. Their plays will be performed in the Specialty Showcase at the end of the week for families to enjoy. Show times will be featured in our Thursday Bulletin. (Capacity - 20) FULL-DAY Theatre available Week 3 Visual Arts - Campers will produce a variety of art masterpieces each day. They will experiment with different mediums and a variety of tools, developing their creativity and enhancing visual literacy. Campers will explore various studio techniques such as print-making, painting, drawing, and sculpting. Art work will be displayed in the Specialty Showcase at the end of the week. (Capacity - 24) Available Weeks 1-7 Web Camp: Tall Tales - Create the coolest stories while putting your own words to digital art. In this workshop, campers will work in a small group to become the author of their own digital storybook. Learn about creating a narrated story to share with you family! (Capacity - 24) Available Week 4 Web Camp: Comic Strips - Learn to create the greatest avatars and comics ever! In this workshop, campers will work in small groups to create a series of one-of-a-kind digital comic strips that will impress friends and family. (Capacity - 24) Available Week 3 Digital Photography - This is a chance for campers to experiment and be creative with a camera and its different modes and functions. They will discover their hidden talents while learning the basics of framing, composition, light, and portraiture. Along the way, they will also be shown the secrets of taking great pictures. Using video cameras, tripods, and computers, campers will create a fast-paced video with special effects, distinctive camera angles, transitions, and of course, their favourite song! (Capacity - 24) Available Week 4 Web Camp: Director’s Chair - Using equipment such as cameras, tripods, and computers, campers will build their one-of-a-kind work of art as a video director. Campers will try creating a claymation/stop-motion video, music video, or a digital blog/journal of their week at SAC Summer Camp. The possibilities are limitless! Aurora Family Martial Arts has a long tradition in the Aurora community and brings a dynamic and fun program at their facilities. (Capacity - 20) Available Weeks 2-5 Soccer - This program allows campers to practice and learn new skills to take to the field. Campers will work individually and with a team to develop their abilities, while our coaches provide instruction on game strategies. Campers are required to bring and wear properly fitted hockey equipment and a mouth guard, as listed on the Ontario Hockey Federation website (www.ohf.on.ca/view/ohfmainsite/basic-rules-of-ice- hockey). There is an ice rental fee for this specialty program (see “Fee Information” for details). (Capacity - 20) Available Weeks 2-5 Tennis - Under the supervision of our professional tennis coach, campers will practice their serves, volleys, and backhands. Campers will have the opportunity to use their new skills and techniques in tennis matches on the six new outdoor tennis courts (Capacity - 24) Available Weeks 5 & 6 Track & Field - Campers have the unique opportunity to develop and improve their knowledge and skills in Track & Field for a full day with a university-trained instructor. Campers will be introduced to all disciplines of athletics (distance, sprints, hurdles, throws, and jumps), and end off with a fun mini-heptathlon competition! (Capacity - 20) FULL-DAY program available Week 1 Volleyball - This program provides campers with team and individual instruction on the volleyball court. Campers will develop their skills and play games while coaches provide instruction on strategies. (Capacity - 18) Available Weeks 4 & 5 Xtreme - Campers will test their limits with the rock wall, low-ropes team challenges, trust games, and the high-ropes obstacles. Each week promises to test campers’ outer limits. We dare you to try it! (Capacity - 18) Available Weeks 1-3 Survivor - Campers will learn how to survive in the outdoors by completing several challenges to help conquer Mother Nature! There will be many team-building and individual activities set up around our large campus (including the low-ropes course) to test skills. Campers will become experts at using navigation systems and other crucial resources to survive in the great outdoors. Kinder-Stars programming is available for campers entering junior or senior kindergarten in September. Campers entering Grade 1 may choose between Kinder-Stars or Junior Multi-Sport programs. This kindergarten-friendly program takes our youngest campers on daily themed adventures. With caring and dedicated staff, campers enjoy a variety of activities such as arts and crafts, modified sports, science, scavenger hunts, nature walks, story-time, and sing-alongs. Kinder-Star campers participate in water play, instead of the recreational swim offered to our older campers. Water play includes sprinklers, mini pools, and lots of water toys. The fun is as unlimited as their energy levels! Campers who are going into Grade 1 and have selected Multi-Sport programming will be automatically placed in our One-der Kids group. If you are interested in the program, please select Multi-Sport during registration. Campers entering Grade 1 in September who have chose Multi-Sport programs instead of Kinder-Stars will be automatically placed in the One-der Kids group (there will be no option to select One-der Kids in the registration process). These campers will have arts and crafts, as well as modified sport games and activities. The primary difference between this program and the Kinder-Stars is that the One-der Kids participate in a recreational swim in the pool. If your camper requires a life-jacket, please notify the Camp Office via email or add it to the “Notes” section of the online registration. The two-week LIT program is offered to campers entering Grades 9 & 10. After registering for this program, LIT candidates will be emailed an application form in June due to the program’s popularity. Successful applicants will be notified of their acceptance after submission. This popular two-week program allows campers to develop their leadership skills and potential in a variety of our camp’s programs. LITs will spend the first week of the program in class learning different characteristics and responsibilities of being a leader, as well as helping to plan and run a mass activity for the rest of the camp. During the second week, the LITs will be assigned to a group of campers to shadow, assist, and learn more from experienced counsellors. They will receive ongoing feedback during the program, as well as a final report at the end of the two weeks to help them continue to grow and develop their skills. LITs are invited to be considered for employment at camp once they turn 16 years old. St. Andrew’s College offers a wide variety of facilities for our camp. The 126-acres of beautifully landscaped grounds include a state-of-the-art baseball diamond, all-weather synthetic turf field, two double gymnasiums, six tennis courts, six international squash courts, six-lane outdoor rubber track, and a six-lane, 25-metre pool. The La Brier Family Arena houses an NHL-sized ice rink, five dressing rooms, indoor dryland training area, and a weight room. Cole Dining Hall offers a variety of hot and cold meals, as provided by SAC's Food Services Department. The Centre for Leadership, Innovation & Performance houses the Wirth Centre for the Performing Arts, which includes a small, intimate theatre, as well as a larger auditorium. The more we understand your child, the better we can care for him or her in a way that meets specific individual needs. If there is information you would like to share with us, please indicate it on the online registration form, or in a separate letter or email to the Camp Office. This information will help your child adjust to camp and will only be shared with those staff members who will benefit from knowing a little bit more about your child. Families wishing to have their similar-aged children grouped together are required to complete a Grouping Request Form. This form does not guarantee placement in the same group, but will be used to help coordinate our groupings. There will be no changes made to grouping arrangements on Monday mornings. If you or your camper have a concern about group placements, please visit the Camp Office at dismissal. The new family must include your name and phone number in the “Referral Discount Information” section of their registration form. Referral Discount will be applied for up to three new families (to a maximum of $75 in savings!). Family Discount Families who register three or more campers from a household will save 25% off the least expensive registration fee(s). To ensure accuracy, payment via the online system is not automatic. After you submit your information, it is first reviewed by the Camp Office. Once reviewed, your application will be verified and you will receive a Confirmation of Registration email that will provide the total of your camp fees (including applicable discounts). Please allow up to 10 business days for your payment to be processed by the Camp Office. PAYMENT BY CREDIT CARD We accept payment by MasterCard or VISA only. Payment can be processed in two ways: Option one: one full payment, paid at the time of registration (includes the non-refundable deposit), OR Option two: two installments: A. Payment of the non-refundable deposit ($100 per week, per camper) paid at the time of registration B. Payment of remaining balance paid on June 1, 2018 (via automatic post-dated withdrawal) For registrations after June 1, 2018, full payment is required on the date of registration. We do not accept cheques. Cancellation requests must be received by our office in writing. Once approved, parents may choose one of the following repayment options: 1) A full credit for your 2019 registration fees 2) A refund minus the $100 non-refundable deposit (per camper, per week) to the credit card provided. Campers are not eligible for a refund if they miss any days of camp. Cancellation requests due to illness must be accompanied by a doctor’s note. All registrations MUST be completed online. REGISTER ONLINE Follow the “Register Now” link on our website at www.sacsummercamp.ca (opens February 1, 2018) 1. Within 10 business days of processing, you will receive confirmation of your registration via email (sent to the email address of ‘Parent 1’ indicated on the application). 2. If you have selected a Specialty Option for which there is a waiting list, you will be notified via email. Your camper will be registered in the Multi-Sport program until you notify the Camp Office of another choice. 3. If you are interested in making a grouping request, Grouping Request Forms are available on our website and must be submitted at least 10 days prior to your first day of camp. 4. In June, you will receive a copy of our Parent Guide via Canada Post, which will contain all information needed to prepare for your time at camp. 5.
