Measuring success Teachers assess the children throughout the year During SATs the children are assessed in Reading, Maths and SPAG (Spelling, Grammar and Punctuation) The tests are used to inform final teacher judgements and are internally marked, they are then externally reported Outcomes will be reported as: Expected: scaled score of 100 Above Expected: above a scaled score of 110 Below Expected: below a scaled score of 1100
Tests Subject Tests English Reading Test (2 papers) Grammar, Spelling and Punctuation Any child that did not meet Phonics standard in Year 1 (or did not take) Writing: portfolio of their learning Maths Arithmetic Reasoning paper
How will the children be tested Small groups Throughout the month of May- timetabled Breaks in between Teacher/ Support staff In line with normal classroom practice
Key Stage 1 Reading The reading test for Year 2 pupils will involve two separate papers: Paper 1 consists of a selection of texts totaling 400 to 700 words, with questions interspersed Paper 2 comprises a reading booklet of a selection of passages totaling 800 to 1100 words. Children will write their answers in a separate booklet The texts in the reading papers will cover a range of fiction, non-fiction and poetry, and will get progressively more difficult towards the end of the test
Mathematics Test NB Children are not allowed to use any tools to help them, such as hundred squares, number lines or calculators in either paper
Mathematics Test Paper 2 – Fluency, Problem Solving and Reasoning (35 minutes) Paper Two Pupils have approximately 35 minutes. This paper will include 5 mental and oral questions at the beginning that the teacher will read aloud. The children will not see the questions for these.

Preparing your child: in school • Reading sessions: SAT style questions Grammar lessons (explicit teaching) • Maths SAT’s type questions (daily) • Practise tests: develop speed and confidence, awareness of question type and style • Saturday School
Working in partnership: at home • Complete follow up activities in revision books • Learning of number facts. • Quick recall of TIMES TABLES (2’s,3’s,5’s,10’s) • Daily reading (asking questions about the text) • Talking with your child about their learning that day, getting them to show you what they have been doing. • Completing Mathletics (Maths revision) • Allowing computer time to play learning games
