Over the years, UCC has held strong to its roots as
the University’s church, caring for the university
community with a commitment to serve the
students. When I was a student at TCU in the late
80’s there was a vibrant, thriving student ministry
at UCC. The Disciples House, the college ministry
of UCC located on Rogers Street, was the place to be

If we are going to be faithful to our roots while laying the foundation for our children’s children, we must be a community of faith committed to feeding our young people with that which will enable them to grow into strong, mature people of faith! This summer, with some turnover in our youth ministry staff, our church leadership made a commitment to reimagine and restructure our ministry to students. As I write this, we are in the midst of a search for the next right person to serve as our Minister to Students. We will not stop until we find the right candidate that is innovative, creative, and passionate about shepherding students and their families. We’ll find someone who is dynamic and able to grow collaborative relationships with the TCU Religious and Spiritual Life staff, the Disciples on Campus and other student groups. And then, we will give them the tools needed to grow this ministry and take it to the next level, including full-time ministry directors who will serve specific age groups within Student Ministry (Director of Youth Ministry and Director of College Ministry). As your pastor, but also as a parent of four teenagers, I want you to know that I am committed to doing all that we can at UCC to provide our students–and the students yet to come–an exciting, engaging, inviting place where they can have their souls shaken alive and their hearts turned towards God. I promise to do all that I can to have one of the most dynamic ministries to students around where they will be given not answers, but a safe place to question, wonder and discover the presence of God within them. Advent is about preparing ourselves to give attention to God’s great gift,
Jesus Christ. Sometimes we have difficulty believing we will see anything
new. After all we know the story. We’ve heard it year after year. What could
we possibly see or hear that we have not seen and heard before? This year,
our hope will be to reawaken the wonder and beauty of the season of advent
through the eyes and ears of artists who have gifted us with paintings,
sculptures, music, movies and more, that draw us into the wonder of the
Christmas story and the beauty of God’s love for all creation.

Each Sunday morning at 10:10, folks gather in Walker Hall to
worship in a different way. Ten:10 invites all curious-minded
people to gather in a casual atmosphere, share meaningful
conversation and experience amazing acoustic music – the

As we continue our search for ministry staff to lead and grow our student ministries, we are continuing to engage and welcome our TCU neighbors. We hope all UCC members will be on the lookout for college students and young adults to make them feel welcomed and loved. You can help be a part of this important ministry! Each week, we offer Lunch Bunch – a lunch for college students in our College Lounge, easily accessed from the entrance at “College Corner” (Cantey & Rogers). We will also be sending care packages to our “Students Away” – our UCC college- age students at other colleges and universities. As always, we are planning to have a Finals Feast on December 8 for our hard-working scholars to share a meal and have some social interaction during the week before final exams. where the Spirit of Christ is present and the UCC
faith community makes a covenant to pray for,
serve and support these families. We are reminded

of God’s promise of love for all of God’s children
when we surround these families in prayer and
covenant. There is no perfect age for your child and
family to participate in dedications. If you are ready
for in-person worship dedications for your family,

For those who have experienced loss, the holidays
can be a particularly painful time, stirring up
grief in acute ways. On December 21st, the Winter
Solstice, the longest night of the year, we’ll offer
an on-line service designed to provide space for
prayer, reflection, and remembrance amidst the
holiday hustle and bustle. In this pandemic season
of life, we realize that grief and loss might be
magnified The Longest Night is a safe and sacred
space to mourn the losses and griefs of the year, to
let the tears flow for the hurting places in our own
lives, as well as for our country and our world.
We’ll also open the chapel on that day from 5-8
p.m., offering a space of calm, quiet, and healing.

(TCHC) is focused on moving 2,200 people into
affordable housing. Most of those moving into

housing don’t have much more than what’s in their
backpacks, so our church has committed to filling
laundry baskets with essential household items to
make an apartment feel like home.
