ISA OR A L E X A MS PRIMARY LEV E L – S OP HI E D A S I L V A Th e I S A Oral examinations remained important in our school’s examination process, both at Pr i ma r y (Form 4) and Junior (Form 6) le vels and it was important that we were committed to co n d u c ting the examinations, despite th is difficult year. A f o r mal training session with the Official ISA examiners, was arranged via Zoom where all st a f f r e ceived comprehensive training regarding the approach needed. They provided us with inv a l u a ble advice and guidance, on how to deliver the best possible exper ience and as s e s s ment for our students. We were able to ask many questions and in return they were in c r e d i ble with addressing all concerns and queries. For this, we are greatly appreciative! Th e e x am consisted of 3 components. Pr e p a r ed Work – Reciting a Poem, Social Conversation and Sight Reading. Sp e c i a l consideration was given to students with particular learning obstacles. For example, ch o o s i ng the appr opriate reading font for Dyslexic children for the Sight Reading component of t h e exam. I c o n g ratulate the teachers of the Primary level, Maria Claudia and Paty, for assisting the st u d e n ts so well with their selection of poems. Every student could relate trees within our en v i r o nment (Trees are Great), feelings about being the youngest or shortest o f their the fa mi l y (I am tired of Being Little), Arg uments with siblings (The Quarrel), kicking off their sh o e s when arriving home from school (Ode to My Shoes), love of the ocean (The Seas Tr e a s u res), satisfying their curiosity by explaining their need to ask questions about ev e r y t hing (Questions), dad snoring loudly (Louder to show their true potential in all areas. THE USE OF L EGO IN OUR STE A M P R O G R A M ME A s part of the STEAM curriculum at Agora Portals, the school has introduced a LEGO Educ ation Robotix programme for students in the 5th and 6th grades of Prima ry School. Thi s f orms part of a Globeducate pilo t project involving some of our schools in Portugal, Fr anc e, Italy and the UK where children will learn about programming and robotics in a simple and intuitive way. A ll of our students are famil iar with the LEGO brand and associate it with play and creat i vity. As our students gain confi dence at using the LEGO® Education SPIKE™ Prime products, teachers are already observing how they grow in inquisitiveness, become more motivated and engaged to tackle the challenges set for them, and we see how they have t he potential to develop high-order thinking skills through play-based activities. Th e f i rst resources were introduced to our students in November 2020 and it h as proved to b e a truly enri ching experience for students and teachers alike, making the concepts behi nd STEAM learning tangible and accessible to all, and promotes inclusive learning acros s these key curriculum areas of science, technology, engineering, arts and maths. S eei ng how the children have gained confidence already in lea rning to cooperate, to pr oblem solve, to sort, test and classify has been remarkable and we are now wi t nes sing some impressive abilities to make inferences and to draw conclusions. The teac hers and students alike couldn´t be happier with their LEGO® Education SPIKE™ Pri me new equipment!
