Vol. 2020-2021 No. 5 January 2021 Jaguar Jottings Your Johnsburg Central School Newsletter have the needed knowledge to pass them. I am Superintendent’s afraid that these choices will make some students lose a full year of learning and repeat their grade. Corner What can we do? It is getting late in the game, but not completely done. We need these habits to change. These students need to show up to class; they need to put the time and effort into getting their work done and pass tests. They are not on their own. Teachers are ready and wanting to help. Call Mrs. Flanagan or me for help. The year has been a tough one, but as we enter 2021, let’s work together to help these Happy New Year students. I think we are all hoping this year will bring us Lastly, I would like to wish everyone a healthy out of our current health crisis and into a more and joyful New Year, one in which we see the normal world. If we were to think back to end of COVID 19. ushering in 2020 last January, no one would have ever thought our world would have been changed so quickly. I keep hearing that we still have some time to go before seeing a change in the restrictions we have been placed under by the state, so for now, we will maintain our procedures until these restrictions are lifted. I would like to now talk about academics. In this new environment, most students are doing well, but there are a few that I am concerned about. After reviewing the first quarter and the 15-week grades, I see there is a group struggling. I have looked over the reasons, and they vary, but a few stand out immediately. The first and most apparent reason is attendance. If the student is not showing up to class, then they are most likely not passing. I see this problem far more with students who have chosen remote learning than in-person. When we first started remote education, we had several issues getting things up and running, but most kinks were worked out months ago. Some students are making choices not to show up. They may think showing up to class is a choice, and I guess it is to some degree. Unfortunately, they have to live with the consequences, which are the grades I see on report cards. Along with not showing up to class comes the second issue. These same students do not turn in their work and fail tests because they do not
Remote students are responsible for submitting their assignments to their teachers to be graded. Work not submitted will be given a zero. All remote classes, including PE, art and electives, are graded. Students should be completing their own work without assistance from parents or siblings. Students should not get up and leave from a Google Meet without notifying the teacher. Students should limit the conversations with others in the house when logged on to a Google Meet as they are missing instruction and directions from the teacher. Students should stay logged onto the Google Meet the entire period unless other arrangements have been made. Teachers are available to meet with Principal’s Message remote students after 12:30. Students should email to contact teachers if they would like to arrange a time to Google Happy New Year to the Johnsburg Community! Meet for additional help. Elementary remote students (Prek-6) should be accompanied by an adult Facebook during their remote classes. It is Check out our Johnsburg Central School page important that the parent is there to help on Facebook. https://www.facebook.com/JohnsburgCentralSchool/ their child, but should try not to interrupt the teacher. Students should also realize that they will JCS Remote Learners be held accountable when they do not Cameras must be on at all times. follow the above guidelines. Sound must be muted except when participating in class. Students must be up and seated in an appropriate work area. Students must be dressed appropriately as they would be for an in school setting. The chat may be used to communicate with the teacher, not with other students. Background noise and activity should be limited as much as possible. The teacher is the administrator of the Google Meet and should be the first to log on, and if you log on before they do please sign off and log back in after the teacher has. Attendance is taken daily for remote learning students. You must communicate with your teacher if you are unable to attend a class. Remote learning students and in-person students are graded in the same manner.

The best snow day I ever had was when there was a two-hour delay. Then it turned into a snow day! Next, we went to my Grandma’s house to go sledding. I made a wrong turn and went into a bush.
