PRINCIPAL Mr. Edward Smith started his career with M-DCPS in 1993 as a special education teacher. He has served as a teacher, assistant principal and principal at the middle and senior high school levels. Mr. Smith is a proud graduate of the University of Florida and is currently completing his doctoral studies at Florida International University. His last assignment was as the principal of Miami Springs Senior High School. Through his leadership and positive collaboration with staff, Miami Springs Senior saw an increase in the graduation rate every year for the past seven years. As the principal of J.C. ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL Ms. Katrisha Smith has been employed by M-DCPS since 2006 where she began her career as a special education teacher. In 2016, Ms. Smith was promoted to Assistant Principal at Miami Springs Community and Adult Education Center. During her tenure there, she held the responsibilities of supervising professional development activities, mentoring teachers and expanding student recruitment activities. She currently holds a bachelor’s degree in Psychology and master’s degrees in Cognitive and Behavioral Disabilities and Educational Leadership. Ms. Smith is passionate about promoting academic achievement and growth for all students as the Assistant Principal at J.C. Bermudez Doral Senior High School. MS. STUDENT SERVICES Ms. Gottlieb holds a master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling from Florida International University and has been a counselor for 20 years. She has experience in the college admissions process and has been invited and attended many informational sessions at several Florida Universities and in the Northeast. She has been a proud resident of Doral for 18 years. She enjoys the outdoors, traveling and practicing yoga. MS. ISIS GOTTLIEB, Department Chair igottlieb@dadeschools.net
ASSESSMENT Mr. Moris was ignited by caring teachers and mentors to enjoy learning. His experiences have inspired him to help students navigate the critical transition to high school. Starting over every day and making a difference is why he loves what he does. As an aspiring administrator, he continues to work on his professional goals. STUDENT ACTIVITIES Ms. Robaina has been with M-DCPS for 24 years. She holds a bachelor’s degree in English Education and a master’s degree in Educational Leadership. In 2004, she began her career as the Activities Director at Doral Academy. In 2007, she became the Activities Director at Miami Springs Senior and 11 years later became the Activities Director at TERRA Environmental. STUDENT ATHLETICS Mr. Garcia graduated in 2000 with a bachelor’s degree in Psychology with a minor in Education. He has been teaching in M-DCPS for over 17 years. He was a high school athlete on the Varsity Wrestling team. He enjoys playing basketball, running and golf. He believes that good sportsmanship and competition create a strong foundation for excellence. As your Athletic Director, he will strive to bring out the best in you. MR. LANGUAGE ARTS Ms. Trelles has been with M-DCPS since 2008. She holds a bachelor’s degree from Florida International University and a master’s degree from Barry University. Her hobbies include reading, running, swimming and traveling. She volunteers across the country and abroad. LANGUAGE ARTS Sonie Suarez earned a bachelor’s degree in Psychology and a master’s degree in Education from Nova Southeastern University. She started off teaching Special Education at G. Holmes Braddock Senior High School. From there, she worked at Terra Environmental Research Institute where she continued taught in the Special Education department as well as 9th grade English and AP Psychology. Mrs. Suarez has also worked at MAS where she taught 8th grade Science. For the last four years, Mrs. Suarez had been working at a charter school where she taught 9th grade English, Intensive Reading, and AP Psychology. MS. MATHEMATICS Mr. Marquez holds a master’s degree and has 37 years of teaching experience in algebra I and II, geometry and calculus. He aims to create a safe and positive learning environment for all students and establish strong communication with parents. He wants to ensure that students have the best learning tools for progress in order to raise students’ achievement to the highest level. MR. OSCAR MARQUEZ, Department Chair omarquez@dadeschools.net
MATHEMATICS Ms. Parks was born and raised in Chicago, IL and discovered her love for mathematics while in high school. She is a recipient of a Posse Scholarship, graduated with a bachelor’s degree from Pomona College and received her secondary mathematics certification from Grand Canyon University. She has 7 years of teaching experience and over ten years of tutoring experience. She enjoys helping students master complex concepts in math while also making it fun and intriguing for them. She has taught Pre-Algebra, Algebra 1, Algebra 2, Geometry, SAT bootcamp courses and has tutored many students one-on- one in subjects ranging from Pre-Algebra, SAT, SSAT, ACT, FCAT, Geometry, GED, GRE and more. PHYSICAL EDUCATION Mr. Ruiz’s teaching philosophy is to teach the whole student not only physical activity and movement. He enjoys the outdoors and being active, specifically mountain biking and water sports. He served in the US Marine Corps Reserve as a radio operator. He looks forward to traveling and exploring different countries with his family. He has been teaching Physical Education for M-DCPS for 24 years and has various personal trainer certifications. MR. SCIENCE Mr. Ruiz was born and raised in Puerto Rico. He currently holds a bachelor’s degree in Biology, a master’s degree in Environmental Policy and Management and will complete an M.S. Ed. in Education and Social Change. He has been teaching science in M-DCPS for three years focusing mainly on research-driven, student-led project-based learning. He is very excited to help make J.C. SOCIAL STUDIES Mr. Lorenzo believes that social studies should be his students’ favorite class! It should be educational and a life-long resource! His teaching philosophy is that learning should be interactive between student and teacher. He has traveled to various countries around the world, both leisurely and when serving in the military, so he enjoys interjecting personal experiences into his lessons. He proudly served 6 years in the United States Air Force as a paramedic and has over 29 years of teaching experience in M-DCPS. MR. ERNEST LORENZO, Department Chair elorenzo1@dadeschools.net
ENGLISH LANGUAGE LEARNERS Mr. Moreno graduated from the University of Havana and has 25 years of experience as an ESOL teacher. He has taught both at the secondary and higher education levels and is currently a high-impact teacher in the state of Florida. His goal as a teacher is to help his students develop their academic English language skills in order to guarantee their success at both the high school and college level. EXCEPTIONAL STUDENT EDUCATION Ms. Iribar holds a bachelor’s degree in Exceptional Student Education (ESE) from Miami Dade College. She also holds a master’s degree in Curriculum and Development from Florida International University. She taught reading for three years at Country Club Middle School and was recently a Reading and English teacher at Miami Springs Senior High School. ART Ms. Sanchez has a Bachelors in Fine Arts and Masters in Art Education from Florida State University. CLERICAL STAFF Ms. Lopez has been with M-DCPS for Ms. Fonte has been with M-DCPS for 36 years as a high school principal’s 34 years; 11 of those as a high secretary. She started at Miami school registrar. She worked at Miami Springs Senior Adult Education and Springs Senior High for 20 years. In was then promoted to Miami Springs 2009, she was part of the team that Senior. In 2005, she was part of the opened Law Enforcement Officer’s team that opened Ronald Reagan Memorial High School.
