NASH COUNTY PARKS & RECREATION It Starts in the Parks!! Some citizens may wonder how we can think about playing games and recreation at times when our country is dealing with so many concerns: healthcare, spending, terrorism, etc. But it is during these challenging times that, more than ever, we need to provide our community with some relief, some fun, some form of distraction from these issues that affect us all. Play is much more than just having fun. Play, whether it’s attending a baseball game or participating in activities offered by the Parks & Recreation Department, such as the 1st Annual Spooktacular, 13th Annual Daddy Daughter Dance, or the 1st Annual Cornhole Tournament, is an important component of our social well-being. These programs have a significant economic impact by providing jobs to the staff, and support community merchants that provide equipment, uniforms and other supplies needed to maintain our programs. They also create opportunities for better health by reducing stress and giving people a distraction from many of our daily challenges. From bringing you the Nash Rec Report to stating our slogan, “It Starts in the Parks!” the Nash County Parks & Recreation is all about fun. Fun is fundamental to participation, motivation and achievement for youth. It is fundamental no matter your age! NASH COUNTY PARKS & RECREATION NASH REC REPORT Page 15 Nash County believes that recreation and social experiences enhance the lives of our citizens. The philosophy of the Park & Recreation Department is to develop quality programs and activities in partnership with other groups and organizations that will aid in the pursuit of a full, balanced and meaningful lifestyle. Children's play is essential to the human development process. Providing our youth with safe, rewarding activities and social encounters will lead to positive lifestyle choices and the building of a positive self- image. Community recreation reduces alienation, loneliness and antisocial behaviors. For younger adults, leisure activities are targeted at bringing people together and encouraging healthier decisions.
