13. Disconnect the white clip as shown to the left. 14. This step is easier with the help of an assistant. Remove the center console from the car and put it aside in a safe place for re-install later. The center console extends all the way to the front near the gas pedal and to the same place on the passenger side. There are plastic guides at the front end of the console that need to be popped out. It is easier to remove the console from the car by moving it back between the front seats, over the back seat and out of the car through one of the back doors. 15. You now have access to the plastic shift assembly and the shifter. Working at the bottom of the shifter itself, spread the steel wire clip apart with your fingers or needle nose pliers and push the cable down. This will separate the shifter from the shifter cable. Be sure not to lose the steel wire clip as it needs to be used for re- installation. Once the shifter and plastic cup are slid out of the shifter cable housing, the steel wire clip can be left in place on the shifter cable to be certain not to misplace it. This Installation Manual is available for download at www.twmperformance.com
16. In order to remove the shifter, the push clip on the passenger side of the shifter assembly holding the pin must be removed or cut with a rotary tool or Dremel tool. If you do not have access to rotary tool, use a sharp flat head screwdriver and a hammer and work your way around the push clip to remove it. New push clips are provided in the kit if they are broken or cut during removal. Both methods are pictured to the left. Be sure to wrap shop towels or rags around the shift assembly to protect the interior from any debris while cutting if you use a Dremel tool. Always wear safety glasses if you use a rotary cutting tool or Dremel. Once the clip is cut it can be slid off the pin with a flat head screwdriver. 17. Using needle nose pliers, remove the steel clip that holds the side shifter cable to the white plastic triangular arm on the shift assembly. Put the clip aside in a safe place for re-install later. This Installation Manual is available for download at www.twmperformance.com
18. Disconnect the shifter cable that controls side to side motion from the triangular plastic side arm by sliding it off. 19. Push the pin out of the assembly using a hammer and a small punch. Use a small screwdriver if a punch is not available. 20. Remove the pin and the triangular plastic side arm from the shift assembly. Put them aside in a safe place for re-install later. 21. Remove the spring from the shifter side arm. Pay close attention to how the spring is installed on the side arm as you will have to re-install it later. Put the spring aside in a safe place for re-install later. 22. You can now remove the stock shifter from the shift assembly. 23. Using a large flat head screwdriver, pry the plastic shift boot retainer off of the stock shifter. The boot retainer has to slide up to the top of the shifter to be removed. Put the boot retainer aside in a safe place for re-install on the TWM short shifter later. This Installation Manual is available for download at www.twmperformance.com
24. Remove the top part of the shift assembly from the stock shifter and put it aside in a safe place for re- installation on the TWM short shifter. 25. Remove the small plastic cup from the bottom of the stock shifter. To do so, hang the stock shifter on the Cup Remover Tool supplied with the kit on a vice with the jaws open about 1 inch as pictured to the left. Be sure the stock shifter is inserted completely in to the slot in the cup remover tool. Ask an assistant to hold the stock shifter to avoid it falling to the ground when the cup is separated from it. Use a punch or screwdriver and a hammer to punch the stock shifter out of the plastic cup. 26. Grease the small ball on the bottom of the TWM short shifter as shown to the left. TWM recommends using white lithium based grease, however any automotive grade grease will suffice. This Installation Manual is available for download at www.twmperformance.com
27. Press the small white cup you removed in the previous step on to the TWM short shifter. Place the cup on a flat surface and push the shifter down in to it. 28. Place the top plastic part of the shift assembly on the TWM short shifter. 29. Place the stock shift boot retainer on the TWM short shifter. It should sit in the top groove on the TWM short shifter intended for the retainer. A flat head screwdriver may be used in the groove to hold the boot retainer open to help to slide it on the shifter shaft. This Installation Manual is available for download at www.twmperformance.com

The 2 tabs on the rear of this cap slide in to the 2 grooves in the assembly, then the front can be pushed down so the hole through it lines up with the hole through the assembly. 33. Re-install the triangular shaped side pivot arm and pin as pictured to the left. Use a hammer to lightly tap the pin all the way through the shift assembly. 34. Re-connect the side shifter cable to the triangular side arm. Secure the shifter cable on the side arm with the steel clip as shown on the picture on the next page. The following steps are only required if you purchased your TWM short shifter with optional aluminum base bushings. If you did not purchase the bushings, skip to step 41 to complete the installation. Using a 12mm socket with a ratchet and an extension, remove the four (4) bolts attaching the plastic shift assembly to the floor pan and put them aside in a safe place for re-installation later. This Installation Manual is available for download at www.twmperformance.com
37. Lift the shift assembly slightly and use a flat head screwdriver to push the steel sleeves in the rubber bushings out through the bottom of the bushing. Repeat for all four corners. 38. Remove the rubber bushings from the base of the assembly by pushing them down through the assembly with a flat head screwdriver or with your fingers. It is helpful to pull on the bushings from beneath the assembly with your fingers while pushing them down through the top with your other hand. Repeat for all four corners of the shift assembly. The rubber bushings will not be re-used. 39. Install the base bushings beneath the shift assembly with the smaller diameter step facing up. This step fits in to the holes in the plastic assembly to replace the rubber bushings you removed in the previous step. Install a bushing at each corner of the shift assembly and ensure that the assembly is seated properly with each smaller diameter step on each bushing fully inserted in the holes at each corner of the assembly before proceeding to step 40. This Installation Manual is available for download at www.twmperformance.com
