Inauguration of the HRD Centre at Knowledge Park – V (Greater Noida West) The HRD centre under the DPS Society,the pioneer in Teacher training and Instructional planning since the year 2006, is all set to scale greater heights from its sprawling new campus at Knowledge Park V, Greater Noida (West).The magnificent campus with ultra modern, state of the art infra structure was inaugurated on January 25, 2020 by Padmabhushan Shri.V.K.Shunglu, IAS (Retd.), former CAG, Govt. of India and Honourable Chairman, DPS Society, who unveiled the plaque and cut the ceremonial ribbon, in the elite company of the distinguished Members of the DPS society , Principals of Delhi Public core schools and dignitaries from various walks of life. To mark the celebrations of the landmark occasion, an impressive session of cultural programmes was organized in the multipurpose auditorium of the new HRDC building. Addressing the august gathering, Shri.V.K.Shunglu, Chairman, DPS Society expressed his gratitude to all the former and renowned torch bearers of the DPS Society, whose vision and commitment paved way for the Society to continue on the path of excellence with a firm resolve. The programme brought to the forefront, the immense talent of the Music and Dance departments of the DPS core schools, who put up a grand cultural show that comprised a harmoniously presented invocation song, a fusion song, 'The new beginning' and a hymn, ' Abide with me', The mellifluous classical duet, 'Swaranjali', by DPS, Greater Noida left the audience truly delighted. The crowning glory of the day's programme was a mesmerizing Classical dance presentation by famous Kathak exponent, Dr.(Smt)Shovana Narayan (IAS retd.), Member, the DPS Society that was a visual treat for the connoisseurs of dance. The programme drew to a close with the Vote of thanks, proposed by the revered Vice Chairman, DPS Society, Padmabhushan, Shri.B.K.Chaturvedi, IAS (Retd.), former Cabinet Secretary, Govt. of India, who hoped that the new HRDC will open the portals of learning and provide training facilities to not just the faculty of the DPSs, but also to the teachers of other schools in the region. LAURELS AND AWARDS CO-SCHOLASTIC ACTIVITES Aryabhatt Ganit Challenge: The CBSE conducted Aryabhatt Ganit Challenge for the students of classes VIII to X in all the CBSE affiliated schools. In DPS Greater Noida, the First stage was conducted on Nov 22, 2019 and around 72 students from classes VIII to X participated enthusiastically. Three students Pragyaat Goyal (X),Divyabh Raj (IX), Mohd. Zaid Hassan (X) were registered for Stage 2. Page 1 of 11
In the second stage which was conducted on Nov 29, 2019, top 100 students from each CBSE region were identified through an online exam conducted by CBSE. Two students, Pragyaat Goyal (X) and Divyabh Raj (IX) from DPS Greater Noida were among the top 100 students who were awarded merit certificates from CBSE. WhiteHat Jr (Live online coding for kids): Ayaansh Singh of class II was certified as one of the youngest kids in the world to become a WhiteHat Jr Certified Game Developer. He was awarded the certificate for the game development by a panel of computer scientists from IIT, Google, Intel, Microsoft and Amazon. DPS GREATER NOIDA AS A PROUD HOST OF VARIOUS EVENTS Events held in the school: Commemorating the 150th Birth Anniversary of the Mahatma: DPS Greater Noida organized 'Je Peer Parayi Jane Re', the Annual function of the Primary and Middle wing of the school on February 13, 2020. In the 150th birthday anniversary year of Mahatma Gandhi, nearly 600 sprightly students from Classes IV-VIII relived the lofty ideals espoused by the Mahatma, through a magnificent dance drama , based on the life of Kabir, the saint poet, who spread the timeless message of religious harmony and non- violence in the society way back in the 15th century. The event was graced by the Chief Guest, Shri. B K. Chaturvedi, IAS( Rtd) and Padmabhushan awardee, Vice Chairman, DPS Society and DPS Greater Noida, Shri. Dilip Trivedi, IPS, former DG,CRPF and Member, SMC, DPS Greater Noida as the Guest of Honour, Mrs. Vrinda Sarup, IAS(Rtd), Chairperson, DPS Greater Noida and Member, DPS Society and Dr. Vibha Chaturvedi, Rtd Professor, Delhi University, among others. Welcoming the elite guests, the Principal, Ms. Renu Chaturvedi threw light on the school's constant endeavour to instil eternal values like unity, universal brotherhood and patriotism in the children by giving them opportunities to participate in constructive activities and events throughout the session. The programme began with the lighting of the lamp, followed by an enthralling patriotic medley, presented by the talented school choir. The crowning glory of the day's programme was the play 'Je Peer Parayi Jane Re' , an impressive presentation based on the concept of peace , tolerance and oneness of God as seen through the eyes of Sant Kabir. The programme drew to a close with the vote of thanks proposed by the Headmistress Ms. Manju Verma. 'Our Little Explorers' - Annual Production by Nursery & Prep, DPS Greater Noida The tiny tots of Classes Nursery and Prep of DPS Greater Noida celebrated their Annual Day, 'Our Little Explorers' on February 29, 2020.The bubbly young children, clad in colourful costumes and brimming Page 3 of 11
with enthusiasm, spread happiness all around as they tried their hands at singing, dancing and acting with poise. Welcoming the dignitaries and the parent community on the occasion, the Principal Ms. Renu Chaturvedi expressed her delight on seeing the energetic performances of the cherubic children, who mean the world to their parents at home and their second parents at school. She called upon the parents to extend constructive support to the faculty and school management to help them bring out the best in their children. The programme began with the lighting of the lamp, followed by a well coordinated fusion of invocation songs and a foot tapping dance to the beat of timeless nursery rhymes. The major highlight of the programme was an amazing dance and drama 'Our Little Explorers' that took the amused spectators on a flight to some of the most exotic places in the world, even as the sprightly performers rocked the stage, dancing to popular French, Spanish, Japanese and German songs and also exploring interesting facts about the places they visited, before driving home the proud conclusion, 'East or West, India is the Best'. Complementing the entire team behind the magnificent presentation, the Chief Guest, Prof. B P Khandelwal esteemed Member, The DPS Society and former Chairman & serving Member, SMC, DPS Greater Noida expressed hope that the opportunities to participate in such big events will go a long way in instilling in the children good values. In her address, Ms. Vrinda Sarup, IAS (Retd.) former Secretary from the Dept. of School Education and Literacy, Ministry of HRD and the Dept. of Food and Public Distribution and the Chairperson of the school urged the parent fraternity to infuse, love for reading books and care for nature in their young ones. Brigadier Jaideep Suri, Advisor-Security and Consultant-Movement Logistics, The DPS Society, Prof. A. K. Sharma, Consultant (Civil), The DPS Society, Members of the Parent Forum of the school and proud parents of the nearly 500 students from Classes Nursery and Prep also attended the event. The vote of thanks was proposed by Dr. Shalini Jain, Block In-charge, Junior wing. It was followed by the National anthem. Bidding Adieu to class XII: DPS Greater Noida organized' The Grand Day' on February 7, 2020 to bid farewell to the outgoing batch of Class XII. It was a day filled with bittersweet moments, with the students and teachers reliving the fun and nostalgia of the wonderful years gone by. Speaking on the occasion, the Principal, Ms. Renu Chaturvedi, blessed them and urged them to keep all distractions at bay to lead a responsible and upright life ahead. The students of Class XI delighted their seniors through a musical medley, a short movie and poem rendition, wishing them good luck for the future. Student representatives from Class XII, led by the Head Boys and the Head Girls expressed their gratitude to the Principal and the faculty of the school for the consistent guidance all through the years. On the occasion, the school felicitated meritorious students with Co -Scholastic Awards for their incredible accomplishments in Co-curricular activities including sports, debating, digital technology, art, dance and music. Dev Soni, Nishtha Gupta, Amaan Alam and Jaya Shekhar were awarded the title ' Jewels of DPS Greater Noida' for their consistent, all round performance in Scholastic and Co-Scholastic arenas throughout their stay in school. The events drew to a close with the Class XII students rocking the stage with their dancing skills that was followed by a sumptuous lunch. The students departed with a promise of a super show at the Boards and return to their alma mater as proud alumnis. Finger Maths Award Ceremony: AJS EduScience hosted CSDP (Child Skill Development program) Award Ceremony in DPS Greater Noida Auditorium with 300 students, who enrolled for Finger Maths/Rapid Maths and Brain Twister courses for the session 2019-20 on February 08, 2020, where the students felicitation of Unique Memento's to Module 1, Dream Memento's to Module 2 and Excellence Certificate Memento to Module 3 Students took place. program was marked by the lighting of the lamp. To explain the functioning of the left and right brain, the play was performed by the teacher and students. In her speech, the Principal, Ms. Renu Chaturvedi praised the students and AJS Team and efforts taken by Finger Maths/Rapid Maths Teachers. She also added it was 'magic' seeing students performing so fast without any tool. The highlight of the program was the Gratitude of love proposed by its Founder Ms. Alpana Bhansali. Intra school activities Sports Day Class II Students of class II indulged in various sporting activities since the beginning of the session 2019-20. Their sporting skills were honed under the guidance of expert coaches. Students selected tennis, swimming or skating as a sport of their choice and diligently learnt and practiced the game throughout the year. With the session 2019-20 gearing towards its natural conclusion, all students competed against each other under various categories of their chosen sport. The preliminary round of tennis matches, race heats and skating races were held on 6th and 7th of February. In athletics students competed under 50 m. race, 80 m obstacle race and 80 m relay race category. In tennis a number of mini matches were held and in skating students were judged under the specifics of speed and agility using in-line skates or quad skates. The sports day for class II was celebrated on February 17, 2020. The winners of the preliminary round competed with one another for 1st, 2nd and 3rd position on this day. These students pushed themselves hard to achieve success and glory for themselves. Co-ordinators, block-in charge ma’am as well as the Head Mistress ma’am were present to encourage these students to give their very best. The highlight of the Sport’s day was the award ceremony. Amid loud cheers and applause Head Mistress ma’am herself awarded the gold, silver and bronze medals to the winners. It was truly an exhilarating day which saw myriad emotions of elation, determination and sports man ship mixed with sweat and tears. Good Luck Wishes: It has been an exciting year for students as well as teachers of class II. As, children got ready for their final examination, teachers showed their support and gave them heartfelt wishes by planning Good luck wishes activity for them. Children were given a “Good Luck Card” by their HRTs on Page 6 of 11
21 February 2020 and each and every child enjoyed colouring it in the zero period. Children were given the opportunity to talk and share about the things they enjoyed during this session. It was really heart warming to watch the children feel happy and excited. Visit to the Recycling Plant: To inculcate in children the importance of saving and recycling paper Children were encouraged to participate in a drive of collecting waste paper in a box over the last one month. The children were then taken to the recycling plant in school on 20 th February 2020. They experienced for the first time how their waste papers would be recycled into fresh handmade papers. They were also explained why it is important to recycle and save paper NSO, IEO and IMO exams: DPS Greater Noida was the centre for the NSO, IMO and IEO exams for the second round held on February 09, 2020, for classes II to XII, for various schools. 76 sudents for IMO; 103 students for NSO and 38 students for IEO, students of DPS Greater Noida appeared for the same, respectively. Vermicompositing - “ From Garbage to Garden” On February 17, 2020, 18 students of classes IX & X, Mr. Narendra Singh (HM) & Mr. D.S. Yadav (HM), along Ms. Poonam Dua (subject Incharge, Biology) & Mr . Naqeeb Mehdi (Science faculty) participated in the live demonstration of vermicomposting Students participated actively in this practical workshop on how to produce good quality manure that can be utilized in the school garden.. Other events: 34 boys of DPS Greater Noida appeared for the NCC “A” certificate written examination organised by 40 UP BN Boys NCC Battalion, Sikandrabad (UP) which was held at Agrasen Inter Collage, Sikandrabad (UP) on February 09, 2020. WORKSHOPS FOR TEACHERS AND STUDENTS: WORKSHOP FOR TEACHERS: TEACHERS AS RESOURCE PERSONS: Ms. Tanusri Sen (Block Incharge II to IV), Ms. Shweta Tyagi (French faculty) and Ms. Piyali De (M&D Department) visited DPS Muzzafarnagar for the Selection Committee meeting on February 23, 2020. Gautam Buddh University hosted their 11th Anual Sports Meet – 2019, “Shauryotsav” on February 19 and 20, 2020, where Mr. Avadesh Yadav, PET Faculty was invited as a Technical Manager to judge the event. Mr. Naqeeb Mehdi, Biology faculty attended the workshop at CIET, NCERT, New Delhi as a Biology Resource person, from February 19 to 21, 2020. WORKSHOP FOR STUDENTS: “Career Counseling session : Harper Adams University”: A career counselling session was held for the students of classes IX & XI on February 05, 2020. Ms. Adreen Hart – Rule, International Recruitment Communications officer was the Speaker from the Harper Adams University for the same. Page 8 of 11
The main objective of this career counselling session was to present the University to the students and to make them aware of the unconventional courses and the programs that it has to offer after their school education. Apart from the courses and levels of study, the speaker also explained about the support services like study assistance, financial support, university life and how to apply for various courses. She also talked about the scholarships program in order to help students who are keen to be a part of the university. In totality, the session was informative. In the end, one-to-one interaction was held between the speaker and the students. EXCURSIONS: Day Adventure Camp for classes II and III: A multi-activity sports camp for the classes II and III was held on Saturday, February 15, 2020 at Muddy Boots near Greater Noida. Around 435 students and 38 teachers visited the camp. Muddy Boots camp was organised by team Rock Sports. All the fun filled activities began in the morning hours and lasted till 4:30 in the evening, comprising of numerous adventurous sports like Burma Bridge, Zip- Line, Zorbing, rope course and net climbing. All the students took part in each activity with enthusiasm and excitement. Apart from learning the various adventurous skills, the children also explored the beauty of nature and enjoyed activities such as pottery and horse-cart ride. Children had a light and nutritious meal and stayed energetic throughout. The day concluded on a musical note, singing and dancing on the DJ floor. WINDOW TO THE JUNIOR & PRIMARY WING OF THE SCHOOL Sports Day (Class I): The Sports day for class 1 was held on February 10, 2020. The gala event took place on the racing track of the school. The students participated with a lot of zeal and enthusiasm. The heats for the races and the selections were done on 4th and 5th February 2020 in two categories 50 mtrs Sprint race and Obstacle race. The qualifiers from the heats were made to run for the finals . Page 10 of 11
To give students a feel of winners all the students were made to run on the tracks as a part f the event. The Principal DPSGN, Ms. Renu Chaturvedi, gave away the prizes. It was a very successful event through which the students learnt that winning is not important but participation definitely is. Page 11 of 11
