Throughout our school year, all scholars and staff members here at Innovation Hall participate in a variety of safety drills to prepare for possible emergencies. Each month, we hold at least one re drill. In October 2018, we conducted a lock down drill here in our building. We were recently celebrated by the Chester Police Department for our swift response and securing of our Innovation family members. IMPORTANT NOTE TO ALL FAMILIES: Regardless of weather conditions, in emergencies, all children and adults MUST evacuate the building with minutes to spare. Therefore, practice drills will occur at various times of the year, including cold weather. Before the close of 2018, CCCS East Campus will hold a practice run of our emergency evacuation plan. For the trial run, two classes from each building will be asked to evacuate and relocate in an effort to assess our readiness. Families will be noti ed of this event and will be asked NOT to disrupt or circumvent the drill activity. It's Back!!!! Our Scholastic Book Fair SCHOLASTIC BOOK FAIR Innovation Hall (East A Building)

Kindergarten News Hi Families! We're busy bees in Kindergarten! Right now, we're perfecting our book handling skills and building our sight word vocabulary. Our team is working on letter and sound recognition as scholars continue in the early reading process. Please be sure to practice sight words with your child daily. In Math, we're working on the MORE / LESS, what comes BEFORE and AFTER concepts. Keep using everything as a math moment even while cooking, traveling, and spending time at home. Can't wait to see you at our upcoming report card conferences! First Grade News Hello Families, As you know, we are using Chromebooks and working with a program called iReady. It is our goal for scholars to pass 3 lessons a week. If you are interested in reinforcing iReady at home, please reach out to your scholar's teacher for their login information. The scholars have also been tested for their reading levels. If your scholar is “on level” for rst grade, they have at least a D reading level. Your scholar should know their reading level and should be working hard to move up. Practicing sight words at home and reading to/ with your scholar daily is very important to help him/ her further their reading level. As always, we encourage you to be a team with your scholar’s teacher to ensure their success in the classroom. Please reach out to your scholar’s teacher if you have any questions, concerns, or would like reinforcements for home to help strengthen your scholar's skills. We encourage family involvement in and out of the classroom. Each month, the PTA meets to discuss important matters happening in our district. First grade encourages you to attend the next PTA meeting on November 6th at 6:00 pm at the Upland Campus. Important Dates: November 26th -30th: Book fair open for shopping. Typically $20.00 will cover the cost of a couple books for students
Rock Your Vote on Thank a Veteran Happy Election Day - for their service on Thanksgiving from November 6th November 11th Innovation Hall! COLLEGE SHIRT DAY PLEA!!!! It's never too early to plan for our children's futures. So here at Innovation Hall, we want to plant seeds in our scholars' lives about their chances to attend college. Every classroom is named after a favorite college or university, one that might be near and dear to the teacher's heart. Here's what we need: We'd like every Innovation Hall to have ONE college shirt to wear on our scheduled COLLEGE SHIRT DAYS. On these days, we'll talk about the importance of college and its impact on their lives. SO....Do you know a student attending college right now or are you looking for a great additional gift for your child? GIFT THEM with a college shirt (t-shirt or sweatshirt). They can be purchased at a college bookstore or even Wal-Mart. We'll kick off our SCHOLAR COLLEGE SHIRT DAYS in January 2019. It's SWEATER WEATHER! Whew, the weather is changing! SWEATER WEATHER has arrived! Families, please be sure that your cherub is dressed properly for the weather, including warm jackets, scarves, hats and gloves. Make sure your child's name is on every item, especially sweaters and hoodies. It's easy for us to locate and possibly return your scholar's lost item if names are written on the clothing item. HINT, HINT: Our CCCS o cial sweaters have tags on the inside where the scholar's name can be written! Principal Hill's November 2018 Book Recommendations Here are a few of Principal Hill's personal favorites, along with a personal pick from Kindergarten Teacher, Ms. O'Mahoney. November's CAFETERIA NEWS It’s November and Fall is o cially here! This is a great time to enjoy all of the change and wonderfulness of a new season. One of the biggest changes for CCCS is the Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program that was introduced to the elementary schools. This highly coveted grant from the US Department of Agriculture allows all of our scholars to sample fresh fruits and veggies 3 times a week for the entire school year! Smart Partners, the company who manages our samples, is a small but mighty company that has been in business for several decades and primarily focuses on servicing this program throughout PA. Some of the produce is what you and your family see every day like Spinach, Zucchini, and Oranges. Popular items like Grapes make the menu too but, a different variety is introduced every time like Black Grapes and Candy Grapes. What excites the Food Services Department the most though are the exotic fruits like Tangellos, Gooseberries, Seckle Pears, Finger Limes, and Kohlrabi. Samplings happen Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday so if you have an elementary scholar, be sure to ask them about their special snack! Menus are available on the school website and with the printed Breakfast and Lunch menus in each of the buildings. There’s nothing like these cold mornings and evenings to breathe new life into the season. Unfortunately, cold weather often bring cold viruses as well. This Chicken and Wild Rice soup puts a fun spin on the classic chicken noodle, a cold remedy favorite. Also, because it is a
crockpot recipe, you can put it on at night when symptoms rst start showing and have meals ready in the morning to last the entire sick day! 2 medium carrots, peeled and chopped (1 cup) 2 stalks celery - chopped (1 cup), ¾ cup uncooked wild rice, rinsed and drained 1 medium chopped onion (1/2 cup), 1 small sprig, fresh rosemary, 2 bay leaves, 1 tsp nely shredded lemon peel, ¼ tsp ground black pepper, 3 chicken breast halves with bone (about 2 ¼ pounds total), 3 - 14 ounce cans reduced-sodium chicken broth, ½ cup snipped fresh parsley, ground black pepper In a 4 to 4 1/2-quart slow cooker, combine carrots, celery, wild rice, onion, rosemary, bay leaves, lemon peel, and the 1/4 teaspoon pepper. Top with chicken breast halves. Pour chicken broth over all. Cover; cook on low heat setting for 6 to 6 1/2 hours or on high-heat setting for 3 hours. Remove chicken and cool slightly. Discard rosemary sprig and bay leaves. Cut chicken from bone; discard bones. Chop chicken and return to soup along with parsley. Season to taste with additional pepper. Makes about 6 – 1 ½ cup servings. Our Thanksgiving Blessings! We are thankful at Innovation Hall! As we prepare to take a short break from school for Thanksgiving, we want to express our gratitude for everyone who makes it possible for as many students as possible to come to school every day, on time, ready to learn. We thank: Our students and families for making daily attendance a priority since they know the habit of attendance will help them do well in the classroom and eventually in a job. Our wonderful teachers who pour their energy into making each classroom an exciting place for exploration and knowledge so children do not want to miss out on learning. Our support staff and community volunteers who provide the extra hands and attention our children need. We appreciate each one of you so much! We look forward to seeing every scholar of Innovation Hall after the Thanksgiving holiday. We also hope you will keep in mind that school is closed on Wednesday, November 21st, 2018 and reopens Monday, November 26, 2018. We especially appreciate everyone’s efforts to avoid taking extra days off during the Thanksgiving holiday. Just a few missed days here and there, even if they’re excused absences, can add up to too much lost learning time and leave your child behind in school. This is as true in kindergarten as it is in high school.
