New add-ons for ODP Players this year cont...
VEO Camera • VEO is a camera that uses Artificial intelligence to track the ball. • World Clubs using VEO • FC Copenhagen. • Manchester City. • AS Roma. • Borussia Mönchengladbach. • Impact de Montréal. • The camera captures the entire field so no more missing the corners of a field. • After the match when plugged into an ethernet cord it takes 3-4 hours to upload to the VEO platform and then is ready to share.
VEO and Indiana Soccer • We have secured a partnership with VEO. Those who purchase a VEO camera can get a 10% discount. • Email Todd Sheely- todd@soccerindiana.org for more info. • To date we have recorded over 40 different activities (matches or training) using the VEO Camera. • These are then made available through our ODP YouTube Channel for players and coaches to review, edit for college, or share with family not in attendance.
Why did we add this to our player's development? Enhanced training Tools to develop a tool player highlight video Provide access to the Families to be able to club coach to assist in watch players when the overall player’s not in attendance development
Team Genius • Team Genius is an evaluation software. It can be accessed via an app straight from your phone or on a desktop/laptop format. • To date we have developed and delivered over 500 evaluations to Indiana ODP players. Each player who attended at least two sessions prior to December 19, 2020 received a mid- season evaluation. • All players will receive an end of season evaluation in July.
Team Genius Evaluation is based on the following six (US Soccer defined) key qualities. • Initiative • Game Awareness and Decision Making • Focus • Technical Skill • Physical Ability • Responsibility
Rubric- The following was used as a basis for evaluating the individual criteria. • Initiative • Does the player show initiative? Are they trying to be the player that makes a difference in the game? When they make a mistake, do they fight to get the ball back?” • GAME AWARENESS AND DECISION MAKING • “The main thing we look at is game awareness and decision making. Are their eyes up when they receive the ball? Do they analyze the field for positions of players and spaces to exploit? Are they looking around before they get the ball? If they trap the ball and then they’re looking around, it’s too late. I pay attention to players that draw my attention in a good way. I’ll start looking at them when they have the ball and when they don’t have the ball. What they do during transition moments is also very important. The game is so fast at the international level. You have to be able to transition • Focus • “A player with great focus plays to win, is composed in behavior, enhances the team by executing his tasks. This player listens to the coach, doesn’t get distracted by the sideline or nearby games, and keeps focus on the game and the field. This is important during games and training sessions.” • TECHNICAL SKILL • When we say ‘technical skill,’ we mean ability to be effective in all situations and to be creative under pressure. ‘Ball skills’ is rather vague. How are they with the ball at their feet? Dribbling. Speed. Changing direction with the ball. Finishing ability. Receiving the ball. Being able to weight the first touch, second touch, and passes in the right way for that specific situation.“
Rubric- Continued • PHYSICAL ABILITY • “Phys i cal strength, or physical ability, i s another key quality. We know that kids mature and hit puberty a t different ages. This is why keeping reports over the years is s o important. We ca n tra ck these players as they move through their physical growth and how they handle i t.” Making sure that things like their ph ysical fi tness is a top priority a s well. • RESPONSIBILITY • Let’s s ay the game stops for a n injury a nd play s tops. The coach may s ay, ‘OK guys , bring it i n. Come cl oser so I can talk to you.’ One kid is stretching or not paying attention at a ll. Another pl a yer i s, like, a ll ears & eyes on the coach. He’s obviously thi nking, ‘The coach is givi ng us i nformation ri ght now that we can use to help us with our ga me a nd ca n help me be a better pl a yer.’ A l ot more of this happens a t Talent ID centers. These players train all day wi th coaches and scouts. When the day i s over, I bring i n each kid i n for a meeting a t the end of the day. Were they paying a ttention? Or were they not? Do they ca re enough a bout their own improvement to really l isten to me? We also ta lk to coaches and find out which players ta ke res ponsibility for their own development. Are they going out a nd getting extra touches on their own every day? Are they s eeki ng out extra tra ining sessions? Extra cardio work to improve fi tness? A l ot of that must be self-motivated. That’s where responsibility comes i n. Put i n the effort to fi nd or create the best training environment for yourself.“ • Learn more about Team Genius at 4:10pm today.
