President’s Message Ramesh Gowda, DDS Greetings and wish you all a very happy and prosperous new year! The Orange County Dental Society has completed one-hundred years and I am happy and honored to serve you as your President. If a professional association can survive that long and get stronger year over year, the foundation must be remarkably strong. I am taking over from Dr. Ed Balasanian as the president and I must congratulate him and the outgoing board on a term well served. One- year tenures are relatively short in terms of what one can accomplish, and it was quite impressive what the 2019 Board was able to achieve. I hope and will strive hard to emulate it. OCDS is a well-run organization, thanks to our Executive Director, Megan Francis, and the OCDS staff of Shalyn, Stephanie and Diana. They are the true back bones of the society. I strongly believe the Board of Directors carry the trust of over 2,400 members and we pledge to work hard to honor it. As a profession, we encounter many challenges, and we need to work in conjunction with CDA and ADA to solve them. The aging and retiring population of dentists face a challenge to limit attrition by attracting new members. It is important to help our members understand the ever-changing regulatory compliance and changing health care scenarios and the fight to get the dentists share of health care dollars. As time changes, we need to change the way we govern the association. We still have a pending task of changing CDA composition, which was addressed at the House of Delegates meeting in November. CDA Cares will be happening in Long Beach and I hope many of you can spare some time volunteering. It is time to give back to the society that has given us so much. The event will be hosted by the Harbor Dental Society on the 17th and 18th of July at the Long Beach Convention Center. Please watch for additional information regarding how to volunteer. I would like to congratulate this year's winner of the OCDS Distinguished Service Award, Dr. Jeff Jones, one of our past presidents and CDA Trustee. We appreciate his years of service and leadership. I look forward to the year 2020 and am very enthusiastic to head the association, thanks for giving me this opportunity. The law took effect for contracts entered into on or after Jan. 1, 2020. Through the provisions outlined in AB 954, the contractual information provided will enhance clarity for patients and dentists on the patient's potential out-of- pocket costs while protecting the dentist-patient relationship through a more informed treatment planning process.
