Occasional snowfalls make the landscape even more otherworldly, roaring waterfalls freeze into icicles, and the night sky often lights up with one of nature’s most staggering phenomena: the northern lights. Day 1: Saturday, October 3 — Overnight Flight Board your overnight flight to Reykjavik today. Day 2: Sunday, October 4 — Arrival in Reykjavik & Sightseeing Tour Welcome to Iceland! Meet your fellow travelers at a welcome lunch. Then, get a feel for Reykjavik, often called “the greenest city on Earth,” with your Tour Director leading the way. • Soak in views of the city from the Perlan Observation Deck • See the iconic Höfði House and the presidential residence at Bessastadir • Visit Hallgrim’s Church and the University District • Pass the Old Town Center, Parliament House, and modern City Hall • Glimpse the artwork of Ásmundur Sveinsson and Einar Jónsson, both famous Icelandic artists Day 3: Monday, October 5 — The Golden Circle & Northern Lights Excursion Leave the bustle of Reykjavik behind as you travel along the Golden Circle, a ring of some of Iceland’s most magnificent natural wonders. • Stop at Thingvellir National Park to see the Althing, an open-air governmental assembly that was established in 930 and continued to meet until 1798 • Sit down for an included lunch at Fridheimar Farm, where fresh produce is grown in a greenhouse heated by geothermal energy, and visit the horse stables • Explore the Great Geysir geothermal area, located in the Haukadalur Valley • Discover Gullfoss, or “the Golden Waterfall,” a natural wonder and one of the most powerful waterfalls in Europe Tonight, set off in search of the famous northern lights, also known as the aurora borealis. You’ll transfer one hour outside of Reykjavik, where less artificial light pollution makes for clearer night skies. Please note: This excursion is weather-dependent and seeing the aurora borealis is not guaranteed. In the event of bad weather, this excursion will be moved to the evening of day 5. 2
Day 4: Tuesday, October 6 — The South Coast & Northern Lights Cruise Embark on an excursion to the South Coast, a lowland region of lush farmland, striking waterfalls, beaches, glaciers, and picturesque villages. • View the Eyjafjallajökull volcano • View the South Coast’s black sand beaches • Stand behind the impressive Seljalandsfoss waterfall • Learn about Icelandic culture at the Skogar museum • Marvel at the beauty of the Sólheimajökull glacier (weather permitting) Then, sail away from the coastline on an evening cruise while searching the sky for the aurora borealis. Please note: This excursion is weather-dependent and seeing the aurora borealis is not guaranteed. In the case of inclement weather, the cruise will be moved to the evening of day 5. In the case of inclement weather on days 4 and 5, the cruise will be replaced with a drive outside the city to try and see the aurora borealis. Day 5: Wednesday, October 7 — The Blue Lagoon Travel to the Blue Lagoon, a famed geothermal spa known for its restorative properties and ethereal water. • Float weightlessly in the lagoon’s light blue water, which is a mix of freshwater and seawater that’s warmed deep in the Earth • Relax with therapeutic spa treatments and massages (at additional cost) Celebrate your trip with your group at a dinner this evening. Travelers opting out of the extension will depart for the airport in the morning. Day 6: Thursday, October 8 — West Iceland & Langjökull Glacier Travel to Husafell this morning, stopping en route to admire West Iceland’s dramatically varied landscapes. • Marvel at Deildartunguhver, Europe’s most powerful hot spring • Admire Hraunfossar, clear falls that stream over a lava field, and see the nearby cascades of Barnafoss • Visit Reykholt, a historic village that was home to medieval writer and chieftain Snorri Sturluson • Drive in a specially modified snow truck on the Langjökull Glacier, Iceland’s second largest, and walk through the glacier’s interior ice tunnels Sit down for an included dinner this evening. 3
Day 7: Friday, October 9 — Reykjavik via Borgarnes On your way back to Reykjavik, stop in the town of Borgarnes to visit an Icelandic settlement exhibition and learn more about Viking history. Day 8: Saturday, October 10 — Departure Transfer to the airport for your flight home. Pricing for Iceland: Rekyjavik & the Northern Lights with HCC The cost for this trip, including airfare and the West Iceland & Reykjavik extension, is $4,548 per person, based on double occupancy. This includes: 6 nights in handpicked hotels, airfare, 5 breakfasts, 2 lunches, 2 dinners with beer or wine, 5 guided sightseeing tours, an expert Tour Director and local guides, and private deluxe motor coach transportation on tour. A single occupancy private room is an additional $630 per person. Transportation and gratuities to/from HCC’s Main Campus and Washington Dulles International Airport is also included in the price, provided you are booked on the same flight as the majority of the group. **You must be booked on the West Iceland & Reykjavik extension to be guaranteed return transportation to HCC.** Go Ahead Tours makes every effort to book the entire group on the same flight. If you select a different departure city, you will need to arrange your own transportation to/from the airport. For security purposes, Education First doesn’t allow two people who are booking separately to room together online. If you and your travel companion are booking separately, you should each book in a single room and then let HCC know you want to room together. You will see the single room fee when you are booking, but it is not charged up front and will disappear as soon as you are roomed together. Refunds & Cancellations If you cancel your reservation, the cancellation fee schedule below will apply. If you are booked in a double/twin room and your roommate cancels his or her tour more than 45 days prior to departure, you will be responsible for paying the single supplement fee. If you purchased travel coverage and you are canceling for a reason covered under the policy guidelines, cancellation fees will be reimbursed to you directly from the insurance company pending claim approval. In the event that you have to cancel your tour on the day of departure, you must notify GAT prior to checking in to your first flight if you purchased airfare through Go Ahead, or the departure of your first flight if traveling land-only. Any penalties for supplemental services/guarantees (including, but not limited to, flights, hotels, or late additions) resulting from cancellations made at your request will be your responsibility, and all service fees are non-refundable. Substitution of travelers is not permitted. If you choose not to travel, but fail to cancel your tour prior to the departure date or if you return home before the scheduled completion of your tour, you will not be eligible for any refund or reimbursement from GAT for any unused portion of your trip or costs incurred by leaving your trip early. Fee for Cancellation of European Land Tours Travelers with travel coverage (goaheadtours.com/travelprotection), can cancel for any reason before the Tour Finalization Date (July 25, 2020) and receive the value of the cancellation fee (the deposit paid) in the form of a future travel voucher. The voucher will be valid for 1 year from the time of issue. Within 72 hours of booking - reservation fee is fully refundable 71+ days prior - $300 70-46 days prior - $1,000 45-8 days prior - The greater of $1,000 or 50%* 7-0 days prior - 100%* *Percentages listed above are of the total tour cost, including reservation fee. If the pre- or post-stay hotel is different than the main tour hotel in the same city when made available 30 days prior to tour, customers have 72 hours to cancel the pre- or post-stay hotel with no fee. Cancellation with AnyReason Protection Travelers with AnyReason Protection can cancel their tour at any time prior to checking in for their first scheduled flight. If canceled for a reason not covered under their travel coverage policy, Go Ahead will provide a credit voucher for the value of their cancellation fees that can be applied to a newly booked tour. Voucher is valid for one year, is non-transferrable, and is not redeemable for cash. Travel Documents In order to enter Iceland, U.S. and Canadian citizens need a valid passport with an expiration date extending at least six months beyond the date of reentry. We recommend having at least one blank passport page for entry stamps. If you do not have a passport, we recommend applying as soon as possible as it may take up to 14 weeks to process. There is no visa required for U.S. or Canadian citizens. If you are not a U.S. or Canadian citizen, you must contact your destination country’s consulate for your specific entry requirements. Traveler Responsibilities • Daily spending money for additional tour experiences, free time activities, and souvenirs. Expect to pay fees each time you exchange money or withdraw cash from ATMs. • Some meals are not included—this is your time to explore. The Tour Director will always be there to suggest restaurants, cafes, bars, and more. • Anticipate the equivalent of $12USD–$15USD per day for tips. All gratuities on tour are at your discretion. • Fees for additional or overweight baggage and passport and/or visa fees. 7
