Monthly Sermon Sermon by Bro. Herb How can God – how can anyone – straighten up this Knochel, Phoenix, AZ mess that I’m aware of, that’s part of my life, or part of the life of someone I know or someone I love? We’re February 19, 2020 doubters, right? But what did Jesus do? I pray that for each of us. I don’t know for sure exactly how it John 20 works with you, but here it is for Thomas. I think this I’ve opened to the gospel of St. John in the end of is a reasonable prayer to have if we’re struggling with the book. I would like to read a few verses out of something where we don’t really comprehend how chapter 20, starting at verse 26, and maybe we’ll God is going to repair a certain circumstance. Let’s read into 21. So, Jesus has risen from the dead hope for something like Thomas got. by the power of God with the overwhelming and So, eight days they’re shut indoors. The room was final answer to the question of Lordship and to the shut, and I presume it was closed up tight because they question that all mankind, at that point, had as to were afraid for their lives. They wanted to end That’s the end of Chapter 20, and if you don’t this movement once and for all, so the disciples are in mind leaving your Bibles opened, in case we run out hiding. I’m not sure of that, but I surmise it. And then of words for these few verses that we’ve looked at, we without opening a single door or breaking a window can go on into the next chapter and read that. I just or anything, Jesus appears, and what does he say? think about Thomas, and my heart goes out for him. When we’re looking for answers and the most difficult Perhaps he was a skeptic. There might be some of us things of life where we really struggle with “how can here in the audience, as well as the one speaking, who God fix this? how can this be made right, this thing might have had moments of skepticism. It’s easier for that I’m aware of or that is part of my life? how can me to comprehend something if I can see it with my it be made right?”, think what were Jesus first words? own eyes and maybe experience it in another way, “Peace. So, Thomas was suffering from that, as we something within me can trust enough to where the all know the story, that he was a doubter. He got that wild winds and waves that go on in my mind and moniker. he earned that name. So did I. We each heart when I’m worried can have sense of peace, have our moments where we’re doubters. then I think maybe I’m beginning to believe. This section of our website contains several articles, podcasts, and resources designed to help us and those we love navigate emotions such as fear, worry, stress, and unmet expectations. • God’s Promises to the Believer: A series of promises from the Scriptures meant to bring encouragement and strength in difficult times. • Dealing with Caregiver stress: In the midst of difficult times, we must never forgot the special stress that those caring for others can feel. As a church, we have the opportunity to be aware, to be prayerful, and to be purposeful to encourage these caregivers in big and small ways. If we are a caregiver ourselves, we must be willing to reach out for help when needed and continually find our strength in the Lord. • Helping One Another after a Major Stressor: We have an opportunity as a Body to continue to think through how we can look out for and help each other during and after difficult times.
