Houndsfield Literary Canon The books in this collection represent a range of faiths, ethnicities, beliefs, disabilities and relationships. They are a mix of classic British literature and more modern stories. The aim is to provide all the children with cultural capital from reading by presenting them with a range of genres, authors and styles so that they can learn about the enjoyment can give us. The books in these lists are not intended to be exhaustive - they are just a very small suggestion and children are encouraged to read beyond this. Books we study – these are books read in our school reading scheme or as part of another lesson Books we read – these are class reading books that the teacher will read over the course of a year Books we recommend – these are age appropriate books for children to read independently. Some are available at school, others may be found in libraries.
