ADMISSIONS INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS: CANBERRA & GOLD COAST You’re already based in Canberra or the Gold Coast, and love it! You may now be completing an English Language course. Or you might be completing Year 12 and want an alternative to university (see more on the next page). Perhaps you’ve been staying in Australia on a work or travel visa, and now plan to move to a student visa. Or you may be about to complete a certificate or diploma at another education provider, and see transferring to our College as a logical next step. We’d be delighted to welcome you! Ask your education agent to help you enrol at www.capital.edu.au/apply. If you wish to enrol with us directly, come visit our campus for a chat, or email info@capital.edu.au. INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS: INTERSTATE Sometimes the Australian city you start studying in isn’t where you finish. It’s common for students to reassess plans for many reasons. Traffic jams. Commute times. Lack of employment. High cost of living. College closures. Work closures. State border closures. Sometimes your needs are better served by a new start. Our campuses in Canberra and the Gold Coast offer Government-approved regional incentives to students. They’re 40% less expensive to live in than Australia’s largest cities. Less crowded. Less competition. Less COVID. Yet large enough to rate among the best student cities in the world for lifestyle, health, jobs and value. What are you waiting for? Start your relocation by calling our admissions team today. INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS: OVERSEAS You want to study in Australia. But the border stays closed, and frankly, the prospect of studying online isn’t appealing. You want the adventure of change! We hear you. The first thing to consider is if other countries are a better destination for you. They might be. We understand that for many students around the world, taking control and feeling a sense of progress can be as important as the qualification and destination. But we urge every student to look before you leap, do your research and exercise patience before committing elsewhere. Australia’s track record for health, safety and prosperity is worth applying some ‘lateral thinking’. Ideas for you to consider (e.g. ‘QualBanking’) are presented after the next page. 9
ADMISSIONS INTERNATIONAL YEAR 12 LEAVERS: AUSTRALIA Can you join us after completing Year 12? Yes you can! If you’re an international student about to complete Year 12 in Australia, you already know the country’s quality education is only matched by its high standard of living. After Year 12 you may want to stay here to: • Live where COVID is almost non-existent • Experience life with a Homestay family longer • Improve your English language skill by more immersion • Explore the Australian landmarks you haven’t seen yet • Discover your leadership ability as you achieve goals • Increase your academic and personal confidence You can apply to study at a university if you have the grades and the money right now. However, some students seek an alternative. This is where Capital College can help. INTERNATIONAL Instead of going to university or going home, come to College! Our courses are Government-accredited, and respected internationally as part of the ‘gold standard ‘ Australian Skills Framework (AQF). A one-year Certificate, Diploma or Advanced Diploma with us is around 20% the cost of a university degree. It’s common for students to complete two qualifications with us over two years, then articulate into a Bachelor’s degree. Top universities offer credit for the AQF modules you study with us. This can turn a 3-year degree into a 2-year degree. It’s another pathway from Year 12 to university. You go further with Capital College! INTERNATIONAL YEAR 12 LEAVERS: OVERSEAS If you’re finishing Year 12 in your home country, want to study in Australia, but can’t travel right now, join our Offshore Online Program. We’ll enrol you in an online English Language course to ensure you attain an IELTS score of 5.5. Then you’ll join our online cohort, studying a vocational certificate or diploma delivered 100% online with no CoE and no student visa. You will ‘bank’ study credits under the Australian Qualifications Framework, and when the time is right, an application can be made to transfer your studies to Australia and apply the AQF credits you have earned. You still have a pathway to Australia, even 7 when borders are closed. 10
ADMISSIONS “ What if I can’t travel to Australia right now? You’ve seen The Australian Dream, and you want it. It’s where you can be anything you ” want, and have a future brimming with opportunity. Australia’s economy didn’t skip a beat when the rest of the world plunged into the 2008 global financial crisis. House prices continued to surge and wages kept rising. When the next global crisis hit with COVID, Australia responded swiftly and emerged as one of the few countries with almost no infection. It remains a modern paradise, blessed by mineral wealth, political stability, iconic landscapes and the freedom to dream. It’s the world’s best lifestyle. But not every student gets here as fast as they’d like. Some applications for student visas are rejected due to incomplete credentials. Other students live where the border to Australia is temporarily closed. It’s easy to grow impatient when you have setbacks. But don’t give up on The Australian Dream, for within every setback is hidden opportunity… The Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) is respected globally as one of the best integrated approaches to education. It encourages lifelong learning and the ongoing attainment of credentials, from academic qualifications to on-the-job vocational development. Why this matters to you is that when you study a whole course, or even a module or micro-credential, you start building a bank of qualifications in Australia—even if you study online. Every school, college, university and workplace recognises and gives credit for AQF credentials. So even if you can’t travel to live in Australia right now, you can still build credits to achieve The Australian Dream. We call this #QualBanking. QualBanking can improve your credentials when applying for a student visa. QualBanking builds credit towards different certificates, diplomas and degree qualifications. QualBanking helps you stand out to employers in Australia and around the world. Your migration agent can tell you how QualBanking counts towards migration points. You no longer need to think that flying to another country is the event that signals your education and migration pathway has really started. That’s the old way. The new way is you don’t need to leave home. You don’t need to incur the cost of international relocation. You don’t need to start living in a more expensive country, or cap the number of hours you can work each week. Instead, join our live online classes with a real teacher and other students (we don’t use canned videos or animations). Build your credentials. Stay and work at home. Save your money. Get the education and migration benefits of an Australian qualification without all the associated costs. Maybe you’ll complete an entire qualification online. Maybe you’ll do more. When borders open again and it makes sense to apply for a student visa to travel here, all your hard work may bank in your favour. And if you think online learning shouldn’t cost as much as classroom learning, call to talk with us about our generous scholarship program for Offshore Online students. “ #QualBanking ” 11
