Easter Greetings of Alleluia. What a wonderful couple of days we’ve had this week. Our celebration on Holy Thursday was a time to be reminded of our vocation to be of service to one another. Jesus gave us the perfect example, by His coming to serve and not be served. We quickly advanced to witnessing the crucifixion on Good Friday, but this celebration contained no Mass…the only day of the year when we have no Mass. Despite this, the church still gives us the opportunity to take communion since we need spiritual nourishment to sustain us while we keep our bodily fasting for yet another day. After sunset on Holy Saturday the intensity increased as we lit the Easter Fire, sang the glorious hymn of the Exalted, candles burned, bells were rung, the Gloria was joyfully proclaimed, and the pinnacle of our worship for that night began….the welcoming of Philip and Chan into the arms of the church through the waters of baptism. Like Christ they went deep into the water and arose followers of the Savior. With the water not yet dried on their bodies, they were Confirmed with the power and the presence of the Holy Spirit. God’s Holy Spirit filled them up and now they became part of the communion of saints here on earth. Just when that was over, we continued with the Mass and for the first time they received the Body and Blood of Jesus in Holy Communion. While it took many of us years to receive Baptism, Eucharist and Confirmation, they wonderfully received in one evening. In dramatic fashion these two men allowed us to see the sacramental life of the church in all its fullness. They showed us not only what Jesus gave to the Apostles, but what we celebrate in our lives today…. Easter Glory! The church embodies the good news of the gospel, that life is stronger than death, light is stronger than darkness, and love is stronger than hatred. We are told to go forward into the world to be the light that brightens an all too dark world. We begged God to hear our prayers and He did! We shouted with glory and praise, and He was worshipped! We humbled ourselves and pledged our love, as His disciples. The faith of the church was celebrated in a fitting and glorious manner. Our individual faith was renewed through our joyful profession and renewal of our baptismal promises. The message of salvation touched our hearts and we were blessed. The glory of the Lord’s Resurrection stirred us up and renewed us…we share His Resurrection because now, again, His Resurrection is ours. Easter blessings to all of you, Deacon Ferdi, Deacon Steve, Fr. Mike. Vocation Awareness SERRA INTERNATIONAL PRAYER Congratulations Deacon Ferdi! FOR VOCATIONS O God, Who wills not the death of a sinner, but rather that he be converted and live, grant we beseech You through the intercession of the Blessed Mary, ever Virgin, Saint Joseph, her spouse, Saint Junipero Serra, and all the saints, an increase of laborers for your church, fellow laborers with Christ to spend and consume themselves for souls, through the same Jesus Christ, Your son, Who lives and reigns with You, We are happy to have Deacon Ferdi with in the unity of the Holy spirit, God forever and us here at the parish. His generosity of ever. service is to be commended and we are Amen. truly blessed. Next Sunday, April 28th is the 35th Anniversary of his ordination as a Permanent Deacon. We wish him Gods continued blessings and pray that he will remain with us for many years to come...at least to his 50th Anniversary!!! How Hard is it to get into Seminary? Given recent scandals and headlines, one might reasonably ask, “Who are they letting into seminary these days?” It’s a good question, which thankfully has a good answer. It is no exaggeration to say that today it is harder to become a Catholic priest than a Secret Service Agent. Gone are the days when a pastor could simply write a note to the Seminary Director and say, “Jimmy is a good lad from a good family, he’ll make a fine priest one day.” Unfortunately, laxity in the past, coupled with suspect formation in some seminaries, led to the ordination of many men who never should have become priests. Highly aware of this, today’s “Vocation Directors” are extremely selective when accepting seminarians. In fact, the majority of training for new Vocation Directors is devoted to screening candidates using extensive interviews, psychological testing, a battery of background checks and much more. The process is exhaustive and quite often exhausting for the young man himself. One might think that the growing clergy shortage would tempt dioceses to accept sub-par candidates, but actually the opposite is true. “Quality not quantity” is a frequent mantra at the annual convention of Diocesan Vocation Director (NCDVD). In a very real way, todays church is “looking for a few good men.” On World Day of Prayer for Vocations, please pray both for our Vocation Directors and for the young men they are mentoring on their journey to the priesthood.
CREDIT WHERE CREDIT IS DUE In the April 7th bulletin there was an article about a Reconciliation Service at the Hawaii Kai Retirement Center. We misspelled Dave Clyne’s name and Carol Schwarz name was not included. Our apologies for the errors. We thank you for your service at the Hawaii Kai Retirement Center. We appreciate all you do and we know the residents do too. Cottage Thrift Shop Thursday, Friday, Saturday 9:00 am—2:00 pm Questions? Call 396-0678 Agnus Day,, Acts 10:34-43
Stewardship Corner Lesson 147 Stewardship at Holy Trinity Catholic Church Let’s Run to the Risen Lord “They ran.” (John 20:4) Big sale at Macy’s...run to the mall. A child falls from his bike...run to his aid. Well, Peter and John ran as well, they ran to the tomb only to find it empty. Had Jesus risen as He said He would after three days? We’ve read many stories of others running to Jesus; the Roman Centurion, the leper, the tax collector, the wealthy man, the blind man and we also hear ”the crowds followed Jesus.” Today, the crowds have come to Jesus at Holy Trinity. We’ve come because He invited us to come. Now we’re here and have found Jesus; He wants to help each of us, the same way He helped everyone in the Gospel. Be thankful He called, believe in the Risen Christ. He is here and He thanks you for coming.
